I think a few palm type plants, some fairy lights and coloured blinds/curtains will look lovely

Eggandchipss · 11/02/2024 23:01

I really like it 🙂
Tbh I find the plain wood, rustic style that others seem to love, very boring and dull. People like different things, I think it looks good and the chairs look very comfy as well

Subtlety1985 · 11/02/2024 23:02

Could the table legs and chair legs be spray painted? I googled marble tables and a common theme is white/grey marble top with black legs.

Did you say that's AFTER the renovation?

Helpful 🙄

Mate, it's just a table. Plenty of room to have people around eating and chatting and having a lovely time. Don't sweat it! Chairs look comfy too!

You know what shame on all the rest of us,

This is the attitude to have! ☺️

Kendodd · 11/02/2024 23:18

Did he just order it then? Didn't you get to see it beforehand?

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 11/02/2024 23:28

The main problem is everything is about the same level of colour.
So the pink walls are the same tone as the grey chairs, grey carpet only looks a bit darker in the night time photo. You need to inject a bit of richer contrasting colour somewhere. The pp who did the "paint job" with the red had the right idea.
Since you've already spent the money on good quality stuff, add the colour with blinds, a rug, cushions on some of the chairs, change the pink walls to something deeper. Order some free samples of fabrics from somewhere like Dunelm and John Lewis so you can see how different colours actually work in the room. Try deep greens blues and teals, ochre, deep! pink, ruby, burnt orange. Get a colour card, buy some tester pots, paint done a4 card and see what goes.

Actually I think they would make a HUGE difference and the table would probably look really stunning. The legs are the only thing that is putting me off but if they were painted matt black, that would make it look completely different. Maybe get some black placemats too.

custard3point14 · 12/02/2024 00:30

@NotbloodyGivingupYet teal walls? 🤔

I like the table, but the chairs dont do it any favours

Aria999 · 12/02/2024 00:40

If you are keen not to change the chairs and carpet how about a hardish texture rug (rattan or similar) to break up the soft / soft / shiny dynamic a bit?

Teal walls is interesting too!

Aria999 · 12/02/2024 00:43

I totally get the dark carpet dark chairs because of kids. I have made the mistake of too much dark stuff because of kids myself.

When we moved I rebelled and we now have a cream sofa and I spend a lot of time spot cleaning it...

Aria999 · 12/02/2024 00:51

In answer to your original question specifically about the table. I think a lot of people are saying that the table could be ok, but only in the right context, and you are not wrong that it doesn't look perfect with the room as you currently have it.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 12/02/2024 01:01

It's fine, I think it needs some accessories to break up the grey

Some of the links people have put on here are bloody awful

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 12/02/2024 01:24

OP, it is kinda of slowly growing on me every time I see it.

Do you know anyone studying interior design or is there a college near you that teaches it? Or do you know anyone who works in that area?

When I was in college we had to do a number of projects that we based on real life cases? They weren't interior design but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Winners were paid in cinema vouchers which we thought was fantastic at the time.

Where did you buy it? It is staged in a showroom or online?

Growlybear83 · 12/02/2024 01:28

I think the real walls would look nice.

BasiliskStare · 12/02/2024 01:40

@custard3point14 - I agree with @Getthethrowonthesofa .

That table would not be my choice but I bet a lot of people would not like my table and chairs so each to their own .

If it were me ( which it isn't ) I would do as posted above and get some roman blinds over some of the windows in a colour you like . From the photo the pale pink I don't think stands up to all that grey enough so perhaps go for a punchier colour. A bit of emulsion is much cheaper than changing the chairs and tables. The other thing might be to get some nice throws in colours and fold them over the backs of the chairs ( Ie not to cover the chairs but just to add some colour ) & do you have somewhere you could put a table lamp with a nice coloured shade.

Don't be put off by people . I think the only problem you have is everything is new and so looks a bit stark. Once you lived with it for a bit and added your own touches I am sure you will be happier.

Best of luck

Threeladsandaweelassie · 12/02/2024 04:43

Download canva and have a little play, adding bits of colour and accessories.
I found buying my first table very overwhelming and like you had only ever had hand me downs, I didn't pay anywhere near what you did but I'm unsure even now if I made the right choice and it was 6 years ago 🤦‍♀️
My design favourites are pearl lowe and selina lake but I'm not really confident a house with 4 kiddos is really the place for that style ☺

I did an example of what I mean for you, so add the colours or accessories you think you'd like or have been suggested to you.

For what it's worth, I like it, you'll have lots of lovely memories made around it, hub of the home!

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 12/02/2024 05:51

It is fine but maybe put one of those table cloth things down the middle of table in black or something. You are lucky to have a nice conservatory and a new table and chairs and if you like it do not worry what anyone else thinks.

NewbieSM · 12/02/2024 06:23

Honestly I don't like the room at all, seems strange to have carpet in a conservatory that is being used as a dining room. But I'm from Australia where carpet is hated and hard wood/tiled floors are the norm. I think that the problem you are having is the contrast of the dark (ugly) carpet with the bright white of the table. If carpet has to stay I would return the table and get a wooden one. Get rid of the chairs too as they look awful (sorry). I would also definitely add some plants and a bit of colour in the decor pieces. I'm sorry I agree that this room screams tacky circa Pinterest 2016 but if that's what you like then who care what the rest of think .

inappropriateraspberry · 12/02/2024 06:30

It's a sum of parts, and all looks very cold - even with a carpet! I think you will regret the carpet (glittery?) as it gets worn down under the chairs, the marble will be a pain to keep clean and maintained. The chairs will collect all the crumbs!
It's all too much and unfortunately does have the feel of those 'designer' shops full of diamanté mirrors and fake Chanel logos.
Please don't add crushed velvet or a candelabra.
The carpet also looks like it is more suitable for a bedroom, than a heavy traffic area.
Unfortunately whatever you add to try to soften the look will, I think, just make it look worse. It will either clash or add to the cold feel.
Something has to be changed, and I think the carpet would be the thing to go.

Tatonka · 12/02/2024 06:48

I think it's nice, the whole room is too grey, you need some colour maybe some plants

I agree! All you need is a plant. You're lucky to have a nice space to enjoy a meal with loved ones. Ignore the mean comments on here.

Lwrenn · 12/02/2024 07:03

Unless you found it in a skip but it wouldn't look out of place in the dining room of Sandringham and your carpet floor removed to discover original parquet mumsnet where never going to like it.

Please, for my anxious wee brain, never eat anything with turmeric near it uncovered, it'll stain it.
My SiL has beautiful worktops of a similar effect and they plated up a curry and they stained, nothing has removed the yellowish tinge and even though my SiL is a tit of epic proportions, it does make me sad for her, they're lovely worktops.
