Just got a new table for our newly renovated conservatory. DH loves it.. but it's hideous isn't it?

None of it is to my taste, but the chairs look comfortable and the table is a decent size and if the carpet is sparkly then I imagine it camouflages a lot of muck ?

The op asked for comments on the table, not for rude remarks about the rest of the room. It's always clear when someone is a keyboard warrior though who wouldn't say this to someone's face. 🙄

Wouldn’t I?

The carpet was £600 and fitted just before Christmas 😢🤦🏼‍♀️ see why I could cry. I always try and fail.

If you like the carpet, that’s literally all that matters. Who cares what people on here think? Who cares if they say it’s dated or will date or is too grey? If you like it, don’t feel downhearted about spending money on it.

Sidebeforeself · 11/02/2024 21:14

Looks very 80s to me. I agree that changing the paint and adding some bright cushions would lift the whole look.

RosaCaramella · 11/02/2024 21:14

PS after looking at your other pics, it all works really well together. I really love how the light reflects off the marble table so I’d scrap the idea of a tablecloth.
Well done, OP, it looks a lovely classy and warm room. X

a222 · 11/02/2024 21:15

dress it up like a tart with black chairs and lovely expensive black ornaments!!!

Sidebeforeself · 11/02/2024 21:16

@a222 what the what now?!

Aquamarine1029 · 11/02/2024 21:17

Op, please, just let all of this angst go. Enjoy your room! You can start a savings program so in 5 years or so you can do something completely different. Having small kids, you really won't care after you get over your current disappointment. In the grand scheme, none of this matters.

@a222 what the what now?!

i mean if she goes a bit extra with the centre piece on the table it will make it look better

I think it's a perfectly nice table and I love the glittery carpet. People have different tastes and some people can be very rude. I wouldn't be brave enough to post photos of my house on here because I know my decor and furnishings would be mocked and sneered at. I love them though and that's what matters. It's my home.

Absolutely! You've clearly got a lovely home, with a room big enough for a large dining table (and I quite like it). Life would be boring if we all liked the same thing.
Enjoy your lovely room with friends and family! There are a great many more people who would do anything to have a home like yours, more than are being so rude about your decor.

10ThousandSpoons · 11/02/2024 21:22

Can you change the rug?

Getthethrowonthesofa · 11/02/2024 21:24

Op, I can’t use paint, but can you see how adding some plants and a blind warms it up? Makes it more of a dining room?

FortofPud · 11/02/2024 21:25

The day time pic looks great op, you're worrying too much because it's not the specific taste of people on here. But it looks like a lovely room with smart new furniture in. I'd add a colored runner and plants. Maybe placemats that stay at the table so it looks 'dressed'. This is just a wobble, but you'll feel so much better when the room is totally finished and you're using it and having lovely times sat in there.

😂😂😂 I'd put money on it mate

byteme1011 · 11/02/2024 21:32

I really don't think it's hideous - just think those chairs would be a pain to keep clean! But like above said, colored runner few plants in there job's a good'un

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 21:33

@Getthethrowonthesofa that actually completely changes the look of the room!! I see what you mean! Thank you for your artwork haha x

I think this is worth a shot actually - it really breaks it up.

a222 · 11/02/2024 21:36

maybe this? but if u can’t change chairs maybe a grey ornamental vase. the table is beautiful if you dress it up!! it deserves it

custard3point14 · 11/02/2024 21:37

@a222 I'm loving these art work attempts!!

The chairs have to be comfy with DH working at the table all day.. typically he says these are very comfortable 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'v just seen your daylight pictures and I actually think it's the chairs that aren't right, not the table.

Definitely get some blinds though.

Your type of chairs are super comfortable. Much more comfortable than any of the ones suggested.

feelingalittlehorse · 11/02/2024 21:46

They say that mirrors in rooms make the space look bigger. I presume that also goes for mirrored table legs, so will probably help if you want to sell on. Probably.

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 11/02/2024 21:47

@custard3point14 don’t be sad. You have been a star whilst a lot of posters have been incredibly rude.

Do you like it? The room as a whole? Because that really is all that matters.

LookItsMeAgain · 11/02/2024 21:56

I’m sorry that you’ve spent £600 on the carpet instead of getting some laminate or lino that looks like wood flooring as you’re using it as a dining room. Food getting dropped on that carpet will be a divil to clean up (imo).

I love the chairs but they don’t really go with the table (again this is my personal opinion).

I do think you should approach the company that sold it to you and see if you can get different legs attached to it and also to make sure that the marble is sealed properly so it’s less likely to stain or a carpenter to get different legs/base for the table

You’re welcome, I’m clearly very skilled 😂

bare windows are always cold. Dressing the windows always warms a room up, you just need some warm colour, some plants, and I honestly think it will be fine.
