What's people's thoughts on this - is it scare mongering?
My main holiday isn't for another wee while but are we going to see disruptions/cancellations to rival COVID times?

We think flight fees would be refunded (booked BA), but we booked with Club med. Fancy holiday for DS’s 18th and to celebrate end of A Levels. We shelled out £8k… even though we have individual insurance, this would likely come under war related exclusion clause. We’ll lose the lot.

Fucking hate Trump and Iran.

Iran didn’t start the war.

We haven't been abroad for nine years. First COVID then my hips causing issues. Finally had the second hip done last month. Not allowed to fly for three months so June. I'm really fed up.

Eight years here, last holiday abroad was Comillas in 2018. Haven't flown anywhere since 2013 either; we did Spain by car and ferry and France by bus.

I'm supposed to be booking a holiday for may half term . Its a ATOL protected package holiday and I would get travel insurance. Would I be stupid to proceed or would you wait?

i personally wouldn’t book a holiday abroad at this time with talk about jet fuel shortages. But if you do, check whatever insurance you take out will 100% cover you if flights are cancelled due to fuel shortages as a direct result of war…. Many insurers will use the war excuse to get out of paying out.

ATOL protected means nothing for things like this. If I remember correctly, it just means you don’t load your holiday or maybe it’s you get your money back if the travel firm goes bust between booking and due to travel.

So Trump and Iran are bad but Netanyahu gets a free pass? Okay then.

I didn’t. I don’t know a single soul who did.

I think Elon had something to do with that.

Then again, stupid people never learn.

I admire Britain - not one stupid person to be found in the lot of you.

There are plenty of those here in Britain too, as you guessed.

We voted for a numpty in our election too, though not quite on the scale of the American President.

I know! This war is Netanyahu's baby, he told Trump it would be done and dusted within 3 days....

If there's no fuel? How? 😂

JET fuel.

SheSaidHummingbird · 16/04/2026 23:34

AllJoyAndNoFun · 16/04/2026 21:17

I will drive to Italy if I have to.

A well thought through solution to the 'no fuel' crisis. At least you'll not have to queue when you go to pay for your petrol.

ToastSoldiers · 16/04/2026 23:38

xanthomelana · 16/04/2026 23:15

Ambulances are not powered by aviation fuel.

Still carbon footprint. Also… any ideas on what fighter jets run on? 🤔🤷‍♀️

ToastSoldiers · 16/04/2026 23:38

JET fuel.

Um… is that oil-free jet fuel?

AllJoyAndNoFun · 16/04/2026 21:17

I will drive to Italy if I have to.

That is what we are doing. 3 months touring Italy in our campervan. But now I’m getting nervous in case fuel becomes so scarce that we struggle to move on from place to place.

GlomOfNit · 16/04/2026 23:42

OP, I hope none of us are massively inconvenienced by this totally avoidable situation the orange fuckgibbon has engineered, but 'your main holiday' ... am I allowed to say, well at least it sounds like you've already had one this year?

I know this is the Holidays board but some of us actually need to be able to fly, and at short notice sometimes. My dad lives alone part of the time, in an EU country, and I've needed to jump on a plane before now. I'm absolutely shitting myself that I'll need to get over there in a hurry and won't be able to. That, coupled by the fact that one of my children, who's autistic, has an extremely limited diet and the only fresh vegetable he eats is imported most of the year from Spain - well, I suppose I can have a go at growing those.

We haven't even booked our (only) holiday yet as things are a bit up in the air (we'd be staying with my dad, as usual) so I'm very much hoping that'll be possible. Air travel isn't just for recreation, sometimes it's about seeing family members for what might be the last time.

Oh they'll always have enough for fighter jets. Stupid war mongering idiots that they are.

lavendarwillow · 16/04/2026 23:46

My parents drive to Menorca, they have a dog they won’t leave at home and stay with friends. They stop for a night in France, then on to Barcelona to catch the ferry to Mahon. They say the roads are much nicer to drive on too.

I read somewhere that Netanyahu has been ringing up US presidents for decades - or something - and saying “Please bomb Iran” NO “Please bomb Iran” NO - you get the picture.
It wasn’t until Trump finally said yes. Don’t forget that Trump is a draft dodger & doesn’t know shit from shinola about war & has fired all the generals & admirals with experience.
It doesn’t hurt that Jared Kushner’s (Ivanka’s husband) family is besties with Netanyahu.
Wanna hear something REALLY FUNNY??
Charles Kushner (the dad) is the US ambassador to France. And nobody in France will speak to him HAHAHA

God I loathe Trump for all this

Well yes, quite, but more so for the hundreds of thousands of lives wiped out since he's been president.

Yes, this. Both prior Republican and Democrat presidents, for that matter.

Yes, this.

Well presumably she will not be putting JET fuel in her car.

She said drive, not fly. There is an issue with supply of aviation fuel. Not petrol. Some people really just don’t watch the news.

Yeah, I realised that afterwards. I haven't paid attention to this particular issue because we don't have a foreign holiday booked this year.
