What's people's thoughts on this - is it scare mongering?
My main holiday isn't for another wee while but are we going to see disruptions/cancellations to rival COVID times?

My heating oil supplier website says aviation fuel and heating oil for homes are the same, and that's why the price is climbing so fast. Anyone know if this is true? Because if it is I won't have hot water in 10 weeks or so either...

You can be worried by more than one thing at once.

Theres always a war/ conflict somewhere in the world at any one time. How concerned about Sudanese or DRC were you last year?

It’s not the price - it’s an actual production shortage that’s an issue.

I know and it's not just the fuel problem, that prick Trump and his genocidal mate have caused incredible instability the world over....

Ipadannie · 16/04/2026 22:59

Dh works for one of the emergency services. They have been advised that come May the sale of petrol/diesel may well be capped for private vehicles 😬

We have a package holiday via TUI so fingers crossed they will do us right. Pre covid we missed a flight as it was moved earlier and we wasn't informed ( stupidly neither did we check the day before). TUI drove us 150 miles away to get the next free flight together. They gave us a full refund during covid. So I hope they will do the same if they can't source fuel.

Such a worry. We don't go away abroad very often either. It's a real treat when we do and very expensive. Minorca so no chance of driving there

We've also got a Menorca all inclusive booked. Ours is in June. I've not been abroad for 9 years and we've saved so hard for this. It would be the kids' first time as well. They're so excited.
I know it sounds so selfish when people are ending war. What will be will be.

You likely consume kerosene in your boiler.

Jet fuel is a more highly refined kerosene.

So they are related but it's not an exact swap.

You can get a £7,500 grant to replace your oil heating with a heat pump.
I have one and it works well.

I will drive to Italy if I have to.

I get the feeling everyone will be driving around Europe to get to their holidays. What will happen to demand for petrol in this scenario?

I had a camping and driving trip around Europe planned - but now I'm worried car fuel will become depleted if planes are grounded 🙁

Willowskyblue · 16/04/2026 23:03

Between the potential shortage of aviation fuel and the shit show that is European border entry now, we’re not going anywhere. Our Easter trip to Sri Lanka was cancelled so instead we went to France for four days last week and it was lovely, once we’d spent 2 hours queuing to get through passport control, and that was on a quiet morning. It’s going to be horrendous in the peak of summer.
We’ll be in Wales, and I’m really looking forward to it!

We haven't been abroad for nine years. First COVID then my hips causing issues. Finally had the second hip done last month. Not allowed to fly for three months so June. I'm really fed up.

*sorry I can't edit my post, should say 'enduring' war.

Spendysis · 16/04/2026 23:06

Obviously it’s awful what is going on around the world with the wars and the effects on innocent people but this is a holiday forum about the aviation fuel running out
I go to away towards the end of May I have travel insurance but no idea if it will cover these circumstances so may well lose the money

I’m currently researching how to get to Sweden for the birth of my grandchild, if I can’t fly there.

OOh!! Marine Bunker Fuel, I remember heading to the Pier Head in Liverpool as the Isle of Man boats were raising steam.

Cleaned your sinus's out

The issue with the 'light oil' fraction, Heating Oil/Jet fuel/Diesel is that everyone wants it. Petrol is almost only for cars and North Sea Oil produces a lot of petrol when refined.

Me too....fucking orange dickhead, I wish the CIA would do something about him..

Donald owns the CIA. And the FBI. And the DOJ. He owns them all.
See, this is the E team in Trump’s administration.
The A thru D teams refused to work for him this term because of how awful his last term was.
So every loser in this administration has to be a suck-up instead of a check on the big fat loser Donald Trump.
And please trust me when I say that there’s no foul-mouthed, dirty, awful, terrible, horrible, evil, scumbag thing you lovely British people could call him that we Americans haven’t already called - and screamed at him - first.
Sending love from California ❤️

Let's hope we get there. It's a nice short flight and a lovely Island. Your kids will love it.

If it gets cancelled I'm not sure what we will do..during covid we had a week at Haven which was surprisingly lovely even though nothing much was open as normal. Maybe we would try the Isle of Wight or center parks. But I want to be wondering around the night markets in the harbours by night. Sigh.

I fully appreciate people are dieing in this war. But there has been wars every day of my life. If I thought too deeply about how abhorrent our species is then I'd not get out of bed. Going on holiday will have my bearing on Trumps megalomaniac

That's good. Carbon Footprint and all that.

You’re an idiot….. this has far wider implications than just driving/flights & our carbon footprint. What about manufacturing? How do ambulances/fire engines/ police cars power the majority of their fleets? What about the inevitable recession being triggered if we run out?

Do you think you might be slightly missing the point of the post though?

Also, perhaps it’s breaking news for you, but wars are not generally regarded as optimal for the environment.

Ambulances are not powered by aviation fuel.

Daughters due to fly to Spain on a school trip in early June she’s so excited 😢. Just have a feeling it won’t happen. Always something to worry about now with flying. What’s the point.

Caplin · 16/04/2026 23:16

Who knows, with so many people losing jobs and companies cutting back there might be less air travel anyway.

We are off to Yorkshire this summer, but I have a feeling it might be more crowded now with people whose flights are cancelled!

I think something will sort itself out though. If oil can’t move that hurts both sides. It will be restricted, plus supply is under pressure from the bombing of refineries, but it will start moving.

Tillow4ever · 16/04/2026 23:17

Luckily we don’t have any plans to go abroad as can never afford it (although I had briefly looked at Eurocamps). However, with work, we have an “all associate” 3 day event booked in Paris first week of June. We were all very excited, because usually anything like this gets booked for the UK - and my role isn’t the sort to get any good or abroad “jollies”. I guess this means there’s a chance they may cancel it, or ask us to look at alternative travel. I personally booked a flight as trains would be a lot more hassle for me, and I have a deep fear of the Eurotunnel. I’m not sure I could drive it because of how long it would take - work wouldn’t be happy with the extra time I’d need to take to travel, and I think they have rules about maximum distance they are happy for people to drive in one go.

I shall wait and see afar happens. I am grateful I don’t live in a country affected directly by the fighting, so a cancelled work fun trip seems a small price in comparison. I do feel for anyone who’s spent their money on a holiday that they might not be able to get refunded or moved. It must be very stressful and upsetting.

Perfectlystill · 16/04/2026 23:20

We haven't booked anywhere and are thinking of going to relations in the UK this summer to avoid aggro

I didn’t. I don’t know a single soul who did.

I think Elon had something to do with that.

Then again, stupid people never learn.

I admire Britain - not one stupid person to be found in the lot of you.
