What is vegan fish?

GaladrielHiggins · 12/08/2025 16:58

At least you will be safe from the seagulls

Tiredofwhataboutery · 12/08/2025 16:59

I think you might struggle even if you got a vegan substitute most chippies use beef lard to fry in. Which is why they taste so good.

What is vegan fish?

There was a campaign to get it removed from schools here and it appears it was tofu. Not sure if that’s standard.

IMissSparkling · 12/08/2025 17:01

What the hell is the point in vegan fish and chips? Confused

LidlAmaretto · 12/08/2025 17:03

No 1 fish and chip shop in Cromer I think does vegan 'fish'. Failing that, battered pineapple!

HelpMeGetThrough · 12/08/2025 17:05

Fake fish and chips you mean.

murasaki · 12/08/2025 17:05

Just have chips.

Upanddownandupagain · 12/08/2025 17:06

‘ No catch’ on Brighton sea front does Vegan and Vegetarian (no)fish and chips

Don't you believe it, they love the vegan sausage rolls 😁

murasaki · 12/08/2025 17:08

It sounds rank. Sadly, when you opt out of certain food groups, you can't have what you want.

Baninarama · 12/08/2025 17:08

Look for one that serves banana blossom vegan fish - the texture and taste are great, according to my vegan in-law.

jetlag92 · 12/08/2025 17:08

You mean white breaded bread? The fish option is significantly healthier

Bonnejournee · 12/08/2025 17:08

I'm a vegan, I just eat chips. Is it something battered you are specifically wanting? You might be able to get battered tofu in some places, but I'd have thought it would be called that, and not vegan fish if you're not getting any search results.

ThejoyofNC · 12/08/2025 17:09

Sorry it's against the law.

DeLaRuiz · 12/08/2025 17:10

What is fake fish made from then? Is it a UPF?

Seeing as you're not the one eating it, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

@FABAdvice defo Brighton. Whereabouts in the country were you thinking though?

MaJoady · 12/08/2025 17:12

I never understand why terms like "vegan fish" are used. I'd rather know what I'm eating, whether it's tofu, jackfruit or whatever.

I make it from banana blossom (obviously not UPF) and I have seen some fish and chip shops do this, but not one near the beach that I can think of-I think there's one in Whitby that does though!

Some fish and chip shops use Tofu (not a UPF) but if you buy faux fish products in a supermarket they'll usually be a UPF.

Did you mean to be so rude?

introfun · 12/08/2025 17:14

I want won't get.

That aside, it sounds too silly. Perhaps bring a carrot to and some chick peas to nibble on?

Is it the image of fish and chips you're after? As in that's what "one does" at the seaside? Or is it for insta? I don't get it. There must be some very nice fresh vegan foods, why fake the foods you have absconded from?

Sounds like you want your vegan cake and eat it.

Twitcheye · 12/08/2025 17:15

Laura’s fish bar in Whitley bay has vegan fish options, not vegan but had a taste of a companions and it was actually really tasty, made from banana blossom.

Well don’t you look the angry fool. She wanted a vegan version of fish and chips near the beach and other posters have been able to tell her exactly where to get it.
