That’s why they have a vegan alternative because fish isn’t vegan 🤦‍♀️

Sure but it's still not F&C, it's vegan substance and chips. Why not name it what it is? It's too strange.

FABAdvice · 12/08/2025 17:41

Do I have to take my own deck chair, or do the municipality provide them?

yup, so the OP can never eat vegan fish.

Coconutter24 · 12/08/2025 17:42

No catch and The little anchor fish and chips - both in Brighton
Not been to them so can’t recommend personally but got good reviews

notacooldad · 12/08/2025 17:43

How far are you willing to drive in your presumably electric car? Please be mindful of your carbon footprint while chasing after that faux F&C.

Not all vegans are vegan for environmental reasons though.

Unwellandupset · 12/08/2025 17:44

Beach Buoys in Margate have a vegan menu, perfect to grab your vegan meal and sit on the steps to watch the sunset over the harbour!

So that people who want something battered and probably served with chips and peas an approximation of fish and chips, know what to order. It’s easier to say vegan burger/hotdog/chicken than to try to come up with new terms or give long winded descriptions. It’s not that difficult a concept.

It’s a plant based alternative, who cares what it’s called

Edited

but is it not odd that people who don't want to eat animals want to call what they eat animal?

FABAdvice · 12/08/2025 17:46

To all the people saying 'vegan fish isn't fish': do you also have an issue with Hot Dogs, given that they're not actual dogs?

What crazy responses!🤯

If you're in NI, I've heard Infinity Fish & Grill, in Portrush do good vegan fish and chips @FABAdvice.

No. HTH.

Daboomboom · 12/08/2025 17:50

Why do posts like this always trigger the carnivores? 🤣

It's not like the OP cares what you are eating or preaching about why.

FABAdvice · 12/08/2025 17:50

@godmum56 so I am assuming you don't eat hot dogs then? Or buffalo wings? Or French Fries?

Why not call it blossom and chips, chickpea fritter and fries or seaside blossom? Why hang on to traditional names of dishes that you have left behind for ethical reasons? Why not own your food choice and name it what it is and perhaps start new traditions so that people in decades to come flock to the seaside, not for F&C but for seaside blossoms? Nut roast is now completely normal and appealing for what it actually is, no need to call roast beef.

MolluscMonday · 12/08/2025 17:51

We’ve had veggie burgers, veggie bacon, veggie meatballs etc for years- certainly since I was a child and i’m nearly 50, so why some posters are so offended by someone asking for vegan fish and chips recommendations is beyond me. It’s just a shorthand to help people understand the sort of thing they’d be getting ffs.

OP, hope you find it and enjoy every mouthful.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 12/08/2025 17:51

You need to find somewhere in East Yorkshire that does a Hull pattie and chips.

It’s potato and potato, but it works.

No it’s not odd. It isn’t the name that they object to, but the fact that an animal has to die to provide the fish/hamburger/hotdog etc and they aren’t going to burst into flames if they say the phrase “vegan fish and chips” and neither are you or the others getting worked up about it, in spite of all the smoke coming from your ears.

godmum56 · 12/08/2025 17:46

No. There are loads of things that arent named what they actually are. Vegan fish and chips is just shorthand so that (most people with any common sense) know what is being talked about.

Zanatdy · 12/08/2025 17:53

There’s a vegan fish and chips shop opposite brighton beach (apologies if repeating, not RTFT)

What has fish to do with carnivores? I come for a culture where many foods are naturally vegan, we call them the food they are, not a make belief thing. Some people hate fish and would love an alternative street food of the chippy, why should they order vegan fish if the plant it is sounds more palatable?

I can't help but be reminded of a stroppy toddler.

ThatWorthyAquaFox · 12/08/2025 17:54

Tiredofwhataboutery · 12/08/2025 16:59

I think you might struggle even if you got a vegan substitute most chippies use beef lard to fry in. Which is why they taste so good.

Do they? Most seem to use vegetable oil now

Well super for you.

As someone who finds the idea of marbles stakes kind of revolting, even I can understand the shorthand.

Just to clarify Buffalo wings are called Buffalo wings because they, like me, are from the city of Buffalo in New York.
