There’s no such thing though?

I make it from banana blossom (obviously not UPF) and I have seen some fish and chip shops do this, but not one near the beach that I can think of-I think there's one in Whitby that does though!

Some fish and chip shops use Tofu (not a UPF) but if you buy faux fish products in a supermarket they'll usually be a UPF.

Banana blossom! That’s amazing! I was just about to ask “ what does it taste like?”…. But.. does it taste like fish? Or is it like tofu or jackfruit?

introfun · 12/08/2025 17:18

How far are you willing to drive in your presumably electric car? Please be mindful of your carbon footprint while chasing after that faux F&C.

Adding new items to a F&C shop, sounds like a good idea, battering flowers is interesting but why call it a pretend name? Why not banana flower and quinoa? Why not be real? Is it to have the word vegan in your meal choice? O is it to minimise the feeling of missing out? Interesting psychology.

Well don’t you look the angry fool. She wanted a vegan version of fish and chips near the beach and other posters have been able to tell her exactly where to get it.

It's not fish though, fish isn't vegan, so her proposed dinner is something else. And that's fine, just call it what it is.

I'm not the fool here.

What the hell is the point in vegan fish and chips? Confused

Some people are vegan and would like to have something similar to the traditional dish.
Sorry your mind is so small you couldn't work that out.

mamagogo1 · 12/08/2025 17:19

Here they deepfry bean burgers in batter, all made on site, no upf’s, chips are fried in sunflower oil

Tubatuber · 12/08/2025 17:20

There’s at least two in Brighton. My kids have been and rave about it.

murasaki · 12/08/2025 17:21

I think I'll reclassify my spaghetti bolognaise as a salad, it's about as accurate.

GleisZwei · 12/08/2025 17:21

Battered fish a fillet of actual fish, comprising the flesh of an actual fish, which was once swimming around.
Vegan fish is a marketing gimmick.

Bet the chips are awful

BunnyRuddington · 12/08/2025 17:22

Llandudno from Barnacles Fish & Chips.

butterfly0404 · 12/08/2025 17:22

It's not fish and chips then if it's vegan... go and have a nut roast in a pub by the sea, sorted.

It sounds rank. Sadly, when you opt out of certain food groups, you can't have what you want.

Bullshit. Vegan fish is a thing. Of course she can have it.

ManyShapesOfPasta · 12/08/2025 17:24

Fucking hell, I always thought MN was full of fairly open, educated women, but apparently not, and I've been here 18 years.

murasaki · 12/08/2025 17:24

In what way is it a fish please?

Vegan food is fine, but it's not fish.

BunnyLake · 12/08/2025 17:25

Lovetosurf · 12/08/2025 17:05

I’d be willing to try that but it had better taste good!

Is it very UPF though?

HostaCentral · 12/08/2025 17:25

Fantastic, banana blossom.... But call it that. I'm having fried banana blossom and chips. Fish, it is not. Own it.

Dartmoorcheffy · 12/08/2025 17:25

If the poster had said she had a fish allergy but would really love the idea of sitting on a beach with fish and chips, I expect there would have been a lot more polite posts suggesting vegan alternatives. Im not vegan myself but do a lot of vegan catering and enjoy loads of vegan food too.

Have a look on https://www.happycow.net/europe/england/

Curious as to why some people are so bent out of shape about this thread? If you aren’t interested in veganism, just scroll on.

DiscoNights · 12/08/2025 17:26

I just want normal fish and chips! I want to read my book on the beach, have a delicious swim, then fish and chips and a bottle of cider. Ahhh.

Fenellasbum · 12/08/2025 17:26

Take your own bbq and cook whatever you want then

wimonnzy · 12/08/2025 17:26

Have a Sex on the Beach cocktail instead, and watch where the sand goes! Eating on the beach is awful, being on the beach is awful. Sand in everything including the car for weeks, and usually someone's arse near your face on the busy strands. Ugh.

But enjoy anyway, if you find no fish fish, and non beef dripping chips somewhere.

FABAdvice · 12/08/2025 17:27

Ouch! There are some nasty people on here. Why even bother to open a thread about something you're not interested in? Oh yeah, to bully a vegan. Well done. Hope you are pleased with yourselves. I am a full-time carer and I need a break.

For those that suggested No Catch Co, is it within walking distance of a beach you can sit on?

Anyone would think they were being forced to eat it. If it tastes good then that’s what matters.
