Anyone else's DC starting at Warwick this September?

DS is going to do PPE. He's my eldest so this is new for us all.

Yes my DD is.
What accommodation did your DS apply for? Apparently a few people have heard today what they have been allocated. It seems Cryfield townhouses and Claycroft have let them know already. Both of which my DD applied for, so assume she hasn't got them.

truelove · 24/08/2020 16:39

Hi. My DS is starting at Warwick too - Physics. No news re accommodation here either.

truelove · 24/08/2020 16:51

Just asked DS - 2 of friends have heard today. Neither got their first choice - one got his 5th choice. Now he’s concerned.

Frazzled6 · 24/08/2020 17:55

Dd has her first choice accommodation Cryfield Townhouses.. She's on holiday in Crete at the moment but she phoned to let me know.

IAmTooBloodyHot · 24/08/2020 18:36

Oh that's good Frazzled. My DD put the townhouses first too but hasn't heard so obviously didn't get them but she's talking to others on a group chat and someone got Cryfield Townhouses despite putting them third.

Truelove did his friends get Cryfield or Claycroft? Seems funny only releasing two accommodations today if that's what they've done.

DuckyMcDuck · 24/08/2020 18:48

We haven't heard about accommodation either, I hope we hear soon. I know DS put Cryfield as one of his choices but not sure where.

I'm a bit worried as they've said moving in will be w/b 21st Sept. I work in.a school so practically impossible to get time off, so I really want a weekend slot. (DH isn't driving at the mo.)

One got Westwood but he’s not sure about the other (friend of a friend). DS is hoping for Lakeside, Heronbank or Jack Martin.
Glastonbury2020 · 25/08/2020 00:09

Mine hasn't heard anything yet. Will keep checking tomorrow and hopefully hear something!

Keepawatch · 25/08/2020 07:52

Hi there, my DD finally had her offer reinstated yesterday after the CAGS nightmare. Just another anxious wait for accommodation now as despite applying way before the July deadline (she firmed Warwick) she has missed the August 19th one! Worried she won’t get on campus. Out of interest, are the people who have been given their accommodation the ones who were firm offers who got in on results day?

DuckyMcDuck · 25/08/2020 08:51

Well done to your DD @Keepawatch

I wonder if the delay re accommodation is that they are trying to set up bubbles of people of the same course. It must be a logistical nightmare anyway but to have to add that factor into it too....

OP posts:
Frazzled6 · 25/08/2020 09:00

@keepawatch.. My Dd firmed on the 13th but the course was amended by Warwick because she was moderated down in each subject (the amended offer came through on the 13th on UCAS) She accepted the offer on the new course, but she has been offered her original course too (Integrated Masters).. She's not sure what to do because she now likes the sound of the new course (the courses were very similar with some of the same modules but her strengths are probably better suited to the course she has already accepted rather than the original firm).

In fairness Warwick have been fairly good and despite all the issues with grades they have handled my daughters situation as best they could. Icing on cake is getting the accommodation she really wanted.

Keepawatch · 25/08/2020 09:20

Just spoken to the Accomodation team at Warwick. They said it takes a few weeks to send all the accommodation offers, they’ve only sent out a small number yesterday. Can’t guarantee on campus 😔 as DD missed the 19th August deadline (I’m so cross as it’s not her fault!) She only chose campus universities as that’s what she preferred when we looked round on Open Days so if she has to live off campus it would be disappointing. Oh well, just keeping everything crossed now.

DuckyMcDuck · 25/08/2020 10:03

She may still get on-campus hopefully, maybe it's just that they can't say they'll guarantee it?

Keepawatch · 25/08/2020 10:12

I hope you’re right @DuckyMcDuck. At least there’ll be many more in the same boat this year. I feel sorry for the ones trying to sort all the accommodation, what a nightmare it is this year!!!

Frazzled6 · 25/08/2020 10:25

@keepawatch. I do feel this years cohort have been treated so unfairly in many many respects. Just cross fingers for your Dd. I'm sure they will be happy wherever they end up. My daughter has a friend in the year above who lives in Leamington and despite all the disruption she's enjoyed her first year(off campus because she is on a degree apprenticeship).

I'm incredibly proud of how our teens are handling this shambolic results year. Unfortunately the Universities are picking up the pieces.

IAmTooBloodyHot · 25/08/2020 10:40

Fingers crossed @Keepawatch, what a bloody balls up this year has been. Poor kids.

They said it takes a few weeks to send all the accommodation offers
A few weeks? Argghhhhh. Dd just wants to hear where she'll be now, her friends at other unis all know their accommodation. She's also hoping she doesn't get her 6th choice Whitefields (Shitefields as they call it Grin).

Has everyone done their shopping yet?

DuckyMcDuck · 25/08/2020 10:50

I've picked up some things. Wilko has had loads of reduced items so have squirreled bits away. DS is very much a last-minute boy and I'm the total opposite, so for the sake of my blood pressure (and pocket) we have at least something Grin

OP posts:
Maladicta · 25/08/2020 10:50

Ds has been offered Westwood... his 6th choice. Not happy but there’s nothing he can do about it. We’re curious about how they’ll make it Covid safe as there can be up to 17 people sharing a kitchen and 6 sharing a bathroom.

Keepawatch · 25/08/2020 10:54

No shopping for us yet as we’ve been awaiting the decision and didn’t want to jinx it! 😳 Tbh, DD has become desensitised to it all, I feel so sorry for her as it’s meant to be the most exciting time of her life but she hasn’t been able to celebrate with her friends or enjoy the moment of gaining a uni place, the moment has passed now. And now the accommodation wait...just torturous!

Keepawatch · 25/08/2020 11:01

@Maladicta it’s disappointing when they have their heart set on something else but there are some positives to Westwood.....bigger bed, washbasin in room (HUGE advantage when sharing bathrooms), they have a common room which will be useful during the COVID situation and it’s right next to TESCO and shops! I read about the increased measures for COVID, the cleaners will be in daily to sanitise touch points in addition to their usual cleaning procedures.

lovefizzycolabottles · 25/08/2020 12:31

DS (maths) not heard anything yet...... I think Jack Martin or Arthur Vick was his preferred option and then Cryfield Townhouses second.

Maladicta · 25/08/2020 12:49

Thanks @Keepawatch

JumpingFrogs · 25/08/2020 13:00

Dd had offer confirmed on 13th Aug but still hasn't heard. Heronbank and Lakeside were her first 2 choices and they don't seem to have finished allocating those yet. Options 4 and 5 were Cryfield and Claycroft so as those appear to have been allocated we are hoping that means she'll get first or second choice. 5th choice is Tocil.
I'm feeling reasonably laid back as I've already had two children go to uni. My only stress is that her twin sister is about to start at uni too, at the other end of the country so just hoping they aren't allocated the same day to move in Grin

IAmTooBloodyHot · 25/08/2020 13:14

Apparently some people have just heard about Lakeside.......
No email here yet.

TraverseLaRue · 25/08/2020 13:22

Another Warwick fresher here! DS hasn't heard about accommodation either - he was after Cryfield townhouses, lakeside or Arthur Vick - looks like we better cross our fingers for Arthur Vick! I'm hoping it doesn't take weeks - we want to start shopping....
