Anyone else's DC starting at Warwick this September?

DS is going to do PPE. He's my eldest so this is new for us all.

YAy - DS got Arthur Vick too (his first choice).

He's out atm so can't ask him re moving in time/day, did you get any info about that @lovefizzycolabottles?

lovefizzycolabottles · 27/08/2020 16:43

Great news @DuckyMcDuck - it said licence start date 27 Sep so am assuming then...only a month to go! He is off and about now but can double check later...

DuckyMcDuck · 27/08/2020 16:56

Thanks - just got another text from DS saying a further email will follow.

What's your DS studying? DS doing PPE so will be interesting if they've tried to social bubble them in courses somehow.

lovefizzycolabottles · 27/08/2020 17:45

He's doing maths. I did 'live chat' the accommodation office to ask about bubbles a while back, and they said that they weren't doing subject corridor bubbles so hoping that's still the case.

DuckyMcDuck · 27/08/2020 18:30

So do I, that way they hopefully make friends both on and off their courses.

@DuckyMcDuck That’s great for your ds, I was told by accommodation that they’re not doing any course bubbles.

TraverseLaRue · 27/08/2020 22:33

Arthur Vick here too.Smile I keep hearing laughter - apparently the Arthur Vick group chat is hysterical already.... I’m just relieved we finally know!

Me to!

DS has found 2 people on the chat that he knows already (obviously 'knows' in their sense Ie some online snapchat/instergram connection!)

We are off shopping today... Glad most people have their first choice. There was much laughter on Dds chat room about the apparently vicious geese?

IAmTooBloodyHot · 28/08/2020 16:52

At last DD has heard - she's got Lakeside, not her first choice but she's happy enough.

Hope you hear soon @Keepawatch and @Posidonas.

Keepawatch · 28/08/2020 17:33

That’s brilliant news for your DD @IAmTooBloodyHot. I thought it seemed that they were just allocating them a Hall at a time but I’ve heard of several different ones being given out for many different halls today. Hopefully we’ll hear next week 🤞

IAmTooBloodyHot · 30/08/2020 11:38

Thanks Keep. Yes I think they have done them all in dribs and drabs. I got a bit worried to start with but all okay now.
Hopefully you will be put out of your misery early this week although with the bank holiday maybe not.

My DD's group chats have been mentioning geese too, hope they're not too vicious ConfusedGrin

IAmTooBloodyHot · 03/09/2020 13:53

Has your DD heard yet @Keepawatch?

I wonder when they'll let us have arrival slots?

Baaaahhhhh · 03/09/2020 14:23

Lurking to see which accommodation is nicest - DD hoping to start next year. Wondering what is a 3/4 bed, and where you buy bedding from??

Keepawatch · 03/09/2020 14:31

Still no news about accommodation here yet. They told me it could be anytime up until the 11th September! 😳 I’m reluctant to shop for anything yet, it’s going to be one big rush 😔

MarchingFrogs · 03/09/2020 16:03

4ft (120cm) wide / 'small double' in fitted sheet terms and various places sell fitted sheets in that size now - John Lewis do, also I think Dunelm and you're bound to find other suppliers via Amazon. Some advocate just using a normal double sheet, but personally I would say yes, definitely, if your DC doesn't mind plain sheets, but not if they want fitted - mattresses in halls tend not to be very thick and so a standard double fitted sheet could leave quite a bit of spare material under them. (Yours may not mind this, of course, bit it would drive me mad...).

Another little issue to look out for in older university accommodation is beds which ate a normal size, width-wise, but weirdly longer than one would now get a standard size.

Frazzled6 · 03/09/2020 16:12

@baaaahhhhh. I think the accommodation is personal, location and budget choice.

Dd opted for Cryfield Townhouses because they are new, ensuite and normally accommodate 12..with the added factor of being 40 weeks.. So no having to clear out belongings at Easter.

Bluebell accommodation looks nice buts expensive and tends to attract international students. I think Arthur Vick and Jack Martin are also popular because they have ensuite rooms.

Dunelm definitely for the small double bedlinen..

Glastonbury2020 · 03/09/2020 16:40

My DS has been allocated Lakeside and thinks that duvet, pillow and linen are provided! Anyone know? He is receiving all the emails, so I haven't read the details yet!

Keepawatch · 03/09/2020 16:45

FINALLY!! DD got her first choice, Arthur Vick, I can’t quite believe it! Time to go shopping.

Frazzled6 · 03/09/2020 16:46

Great news..

Keepawatch · 03/09/2020 16:47

@Glastonbury2020 here’s the link to what’s provided

Glastonbury2020 · 03/09/2020 17:02

Keepawatch Thanks very much! Goodness, he is right! Does anyone know if that means they get fresh linen too?

IAmTooBloodyHot · 03/09/2020 17:08

Not before time keep!

I don't know about linen but what do they do about irons? It says they have a shared ironing board but no iron.

Glastonbury2020 · 03/09/2020 17:10

Iron?! What's that? 🤣🤣

Keepawatch · 03/09/2020 17:15

@Glastonbury2020 they do their own laundry. DD will be taking her own bed linen. Communal bathrooms and kitchens are cleaned (Extra because of COVID) but think they are responsible for their own rooms.
