Anyone else's DC starting at Warwick this September?

DS is going to do PPE. He's my eldest so this is new for us all.

Someone has said on The Student Room that their Dd got her first choice of accommodation even though she was in clearing so maybe it will be ok @Keepawatch?

It seems their allocation is all over the place

@IAmTooBloodyHot that’s ds’s moan - what was the point of getting his accommodation application in early if they pretty much ignored what he’d put. He thought they might be putting course bubbles together which he wouldn’t have minded but from the group chat he’s found, the allocation seems very random.

I’ve looked into it a bit more now and it seems they use some software that allocates the most number of students with their highest possible preference. They try to even it out as they’d rather have most fairly happy than a lot really pee’d off! A few years ago it was done in order of applications, so firm choices had first pick, then insurance then clearing, then everyone else. This new system doesn’t really help on an individual level though!

Yes it does seem to be random with many kids getting their 5th or 6th choice. Wonder how that works with the ones that wanted/didn't want a shared bathroom? You were only allowed to put three en-suite so if you didn't particularly want en-suite you may well get it as a 5th choice at the expense of someone who put en-suite first.

Oh god, software allocation? Somehow it all makes sense!!

Don't you think it will be more about the people they get allocated with than the halls? Compatibility in year 1 = friends for life imo.

I think a bit of student 'squalor' is quite good - rather than fancy pants/hotel-like posh halls? Life isn't like that 😆

I guess that’s one part @shortsaint but sharing a bathroom with five others is something I’d hoped had moved on from my student days in the early 90s.

DS has just been allocated his first choice- Lakeside.

DS has heard today and got his first choice of Lakeside. He had his place at Warwick confirmed on 6 July when IB results came out.

Probably not - I think he’d rather wait until he gets there but I will mention it to him. Thanks for the heads up He has a few friends from 6th form (and his GF!) also going to Warwick so feeling relaxed about it all I think. I wonder when they’ll find out what size bed they’ll have - some are single, some are 3/4 sized?

Also still waiting, DS put Arthur Wick first and I dont think anyone has mentioned them yet so maybe he still has a chance.

Yes Arthur Vick and Jack Martin still to hear. Which is a bit concerning because all my DD choices of accommodation have been released and she hasn't heard anything

My dd is also starting at Warwick this autumn. She had Arthur Vick and Jack Martin as her first 2 choices (not sure which order) and hasn’t heard yet

We are waiting for Arthur Vick as first choice too......

Yes she did keep, she did it on the first day it opened

Lots of kids on the group chat she's on haven't heard so maybe they are doing it in batches? I hope so anyway.

There are also quite a few that are not happy with what they have been given and are looking for rooms off campus, which will presumably free up some space for the latecomers or ones that were mucked around with the A-level grades fiasco.

I haven’t heard about Whitefields being offered yet either? DD has also said that there are several people that she knows who have said they’re declining their offers as they desperately wanted en-suite so are looking off campus. DD is happy to take anything she can get as she’s so happy that she got her CAGs and her offer reinstated at Warwick. She was turning her nose up at a shared bathroom before but now she’s not fussed 😂

I'm glad DD is not the only one waiting, it's bloody getting on my nerves now, we can't buy any bedding stuff as don't know the size of bed or pans because of the type of hob, I believe some are induction hobs?

I know @IAmTooBloodyHot. Accommodation told us this morning it’s going to be at least another week for the U-turn group so maybe you’ll be in the next couple of days, fingers crossed. I’m not sure when we’ll have chance to get all DD’s stuff, I’m back at work on Tuesday so we won’t have much time then. My plan was to get it all done before then! This should be such an exciting time but it’s just an anxious time instead 😡

Hope you both hear soon... Looks like Rootes has been allocated judging by the number of students asking to swap on Dds chat forum..
