Anyone else's DC starting at Warwick this September?

DS is going to do PPE. He's my eldest so this is new for us all.

@TAmumto3 I'm pretty sure you can stay the night as long as you don't share with non householders. Enjoy catching up with your DD 😊

Bwlch · 24/10/2020 15:00

That is interesting @BringItOnBaby.

Can you tell me where you are getting your info from. As far as I am aware, Coventry postcodes CV1 through to CV6 are all Tier 2.

Having said that, it is remarkably hard to find any confirmation, even on the Coventry Council website.

BringItOnBaby · 24/10/2020 15:10

I put the postcodes in here @Bwlch

www.gov.uk/find-coronavirus-local-restrictions

The sports hall postcode (from Googling) is cv4 7eu and is coming up as medium risk. I agree it's really not clear where the boundaries are!

BringItOnBaby · 24/10/2020 15:12

And also why are they giving alert levels out as medium, high and very high instead of giving the tier number? Very mixed messaging!

TheBoar · 27/10/2020 11:55

I have had confirmation that, as of last Friday, the whole of the Warwick campus is Tier 2. Unfortunately, the Sports Hub is part of the campus, therefore in Tier 2 regardless of it's specific postcode.

TheBoar · 27/10/2020 11:55

its!

truelove · 01/11/2020 20:44

Has anyone’s DC had an invoice for their halls yet? DS says he’s had nothing which I’m very surprised by as we’re almost half way through the term.

Keepawatch · 01/11/2020 20:58

DD has an email, when she accepted her accommodation offer, that outlines the summary of payments required on the first day of each term. I just followed that, I’m not sure whether she has received an actual invoice too.

Frazzled6 · 01/11/2020 22:18

Dds payment was taken by direct debit on the 28th.

truelove · 02/11/2020 15:13

Thanks both. I’ll ask him to re-check the accommodation offer email. Surprised he hasn’t been chased for it yet.

Maladicta · 23/11/2020 14:15

The uni has posted the travel window plans, they sound very sensible here

DuckyMcDuck · 24/11/2020 18:23

DS has just booked his 2 tests and a train ticket home. Bit premature, but the ticket was super cheap and so he's taken a chance that he'll test negative.

He could be home in less than 11 days Grin

Keepawatch · 24/11/2020 21:45

DD has booked her 2 tests too. Fingers crossed they’re negative so they can all come home safely. DD is looking for next year’s house/flat but it’s so tricky knowing where to live/where to avoid in Leamington.

DuckyMcDuck · 24/11/2020 22:23

DS and 4 of his current flatmates have just found somewhere in Leamington for next year. He had asked some of the second/ third year students in the sports club he's joined for advice.

(Namechanged again)
Thanks for the link to the travel plans.

DD's looking at Leamington for next year too, I didn't know there were areas to avoid, are there some rough parts then?
Is everyone going to be guarantor for their DC's new accommodation? I know for some contracts you are liable for all the students living there, not too keen on that tbh.

DuckyMcDuck · 25/11/2020 15:46

We are a guarantor for DS but just for him. The contract is pretty comprehensive.
I don't know if the are any dodgy bits of Leamington. They seem to have chosen their place mainly based on how close it is to the bus stop to Uni!

Dd booked her tests too... Coming home (all being well) on the 6th. I think they are hoping to be able to go out for a meal on the 5th..

No accommodation plans as yet looks like she will share with 2 maybe 3 of her housemates.

truelove · 27/11/2020 22:03

DS comes home next Friday :) He’s got a house sorted for next year In Leamington with 8 others - his GF, 2 friends from his old school and 5 others. Deposit paid (just £100 pp) but haven’t seen a contract yet. Bus stop outside apparently - obviously a key factor in the decision making process!

JemimaJellyfish · 28/11/2020 10:46

Yes, bus stops are very important!
He was lucky to get that truelove, DD is looking at larger houses with her friends in Leamington and they keep getting snapped up before they can secure them (probably because they are dithering for too long).
They'll probably have to split up now and go for two smaller properties. Hopefully they can sort it before Christmas as that'll be one less thing to worry about.

Maladicta · 28/11/2020 18:33

Ds was looking at the one he’s moving in to today, the group he’s with picked it last week and he’s quite laid back about it. Near to the centre of Leam, round the corner from a chippy, kebab shop and Chinese takeaway - oh and a bus stop so he’s happy 😁

Frazzled6 · 29/11/2020 11:30

Dds group for houseshare has increased to 6 now.. they looked at a house last week which is a contender bus stop looks fairly near. Dd drives and would take her car next year but obviously she could not transport everyone into uni and timetables could be different.

PerfectlyPortioned · 02/12/2020 11:57

So impressed with the COVID testing at Warwick - DD had her first test this morning, negative result within an hour. Can't wait to get her home at the weekend! 😊

Frazzled6 · 02/12/2020 12:24

Yes.. My dd had her first test yesterday all very well organised.. Warwick have been good at providing each accommodation with some games too..
Si

DuckyMcDuck · 02/12/2020 17:38

DSs first test today was negative. First hurdle to him coming home on Sunday, cleared Grin

Has anyone else seen this?

Not sure DS is going to want to stay home until February - not if he's still paying £180 a week for accommodation.
