Anyone else's DC starting at Warwick this September?

DS is going to do PPE. He's my eldest so this is new for us all.

I know we have a half hour drop off slot but I was wondering what people are doing afterwards?

Is the done thing to drop and run or drop and go for lunch/coffee somewhere? My inclination is the former so DS can settle and meet flatmates etc but I don't want to be the only one abandoning him!

Dd’s slot is for 530 on Wednesday, we’re planning to go somewhere for a late lunch and then heading to drop and go so that she can get on with socialising. However if there’s no one else in her kitchen bubble (as she’s arriving on day 1) we might hang around a while if we’re not kicked out! I’m still trying to fathom how we’re going to manage to empty the car and transfer it all in 20 mins!!!!

IAmTooBloodyHot · 17/09/2020 10:50

I'm abandoning DD soon after drop off. I think she's keen to get started (it's been a long time coming) and she's been stuck with us since the beginning of lockdown.
Her new life awaits and I don't want to encroach too much upon it SadSmile.

Frazzled6 · 17/09/2020 13:22

We will see how things are on drop off day.. Its up to Dd.. We would love to take her out for lunch but its more important that she does what she feels is best.

Just came across these transcripts of online chats with the uni for parents. I’ve not read all of them but one was very vague about face to face teaching. I’m worried that they may stop it all and go 100% online!

Keepawatch · 17/09/2020 19:33

There’s a campaign launched by the Warwick SU for 100% online for Term 1!

IAmTooBloodyHot · 18/09/2020 13:20

Those transcripts are quite helpful, just saw this about only being allowed on campus for a maximum of 3 hours and no longer than the 30mins in the room helping them unpack.

I think we will know more once arrivals start... Probably more room for flexibility on weekdays..

DuckyMcDuck · 19/09/2020 11:59

Apparently someone in Rootes has tested positive, DS seen on a WhatsApp group. Presumably an international student if already there.

Can I join you? DD off to Warwick to study modern languages and will be in Heronbank. She says WhatsApp reporting 4 positive tests in Roots. Feeling very tense!

ErrrrIDontThinkSo · 19/09/2020 19:54

Oh no .... and so it begins......

ErrrrIDontThinkSo · 20/09/2020 21:49

So apparently international arrivals to Arthur Vick today have been redirected to a hotel - does anyone know if that's to self isolate or is there an outbreak there too?

Frazzled6 · 21/09/2020 00:52

Dd popped onto the campus last week because she was in the area with a friend
. She said there seemed to be a few students in Bluebell(looked international).

She moves in on Friday.... Crossing fingers all Okay..

DuckyMcDuck · 22/09/2020 19:55

Best of luck for anyone moving in over the next few days.

If your DC is in AV, could you please post an idea of how much space there is under the beds please? I'm trying to see if our suitcase will fit underneath!! Thanks

Just dropped DD at Arthur Vick 3, she was initially a little disappointed as it is not a swish refurbished one but it is lovely and it has a bath with shower over which she is very pleased about (I dread to think what it’ll look like after a few Lush bath bombs!) It was all very well organised on arrival. There are students at each hall explaining what to do to unload, you park right outside. It wasn’t busy at all so we managed to stay from 5-630 with both of us helping her unload and take her stuff into the halls. She’s met a couple of her flat mates (Who seem lovely and chatty) and now lots of them from various corridors in the block have all gone to the SU bar together! Good luck to all your DCs too.

Thanks @Keepawatch

Great news it all went smoothly and I hope your DD is having a lovely first evening.

lots of them from various corridors in the block have all gone to the SU bar together!

Is this the bar run by the same SU campaigning for zero face to face teaching unless absolutely unavoidable...?

Keepawatch · 24/09/2020 07:19

@MarchingFrogs DD said that they had to sit with their kitchen bubble in the SU bar

ErrrrIDontThinkSo · 24/09/2020 10:14

Someone was fined £150 for being in someone else's kitchen last night. I feel sorry for the kid because apparently there was no one in their own corridor so they went looking for some company.....

Keepawatch · 24/09/2020 11:14

Think they are coming down hard on them at the start to try and set a precedent which is good. There seems to be lots of outbreaks at unis across the country at the moment which isn’t great. DD said that security is all around campus ( indoors and outdoors) checking they are all following the Rule of 6 and also keeping to their kitchen bubbles and also asking them where they’re going when they’re around campus

ErrrrIDontThinkSo · 25/09/2020 15:55

Just dropped my DD at Arthur Vick - it's so well organised, a really smooth process. We were quite early and it didn't matter at all. Good luck to everyone moving in this weekend!

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 25/09/2020 16:06

One of mine is in her fourth year at Warwick if you have any general questions. Might not know the answers but you never know.

Frazzled6 · 25/09/2020 21:40

Very easy drop off today... Literally did drop her off with belongings because she looked at ease and housemates seemed chatty and lovely.

DuckyMcDuck · 26/09/2020 13:39

Just dropped DS, as pp have said very well organised. Helped him unpack a bit and now at services on M40 for sarnie and trying very hard to be brave!
Room was lovely but his corridor seemed very quiet so hopefully note people have arrived or he's gone out and about.
I'm finding this very hard!
