A few of us have just discovered we all did philosophy - a connection we didn't realise we had.

Any more?

oh yes harpsi, we often make jokes about blackacre and greenacre round our way... and act out plays based on well known contract cases..

Skyler · 20/11/2006 21:21

Harpsichordcarrier - It didn't seem so ridiculous at the time - honest. I really know nothing about anything now. Was a case of just getting through so chose courses I liked...

imaginaryfriend · 20/11/2006 21:22

Actually, isn't law incredibly useful when dealing with small kids? My dd definitely has a problem with laws, we'd value a professional like you to guide us.

sasa15 · 20/11/2006 21:22

Economics and business administration in Italy

Lio · 20/11/2006 21:23

aren't we blessed with usefulness imagineryfriend. Sadly the art gene missed me and my stick drawings are woefully perspective-less.

controlfreaky2 · 20/11/2006 21:32

well IF, the thing is my ds's have both inherited the "extremely good at arguing to the death, about any and everything" gene.... would both be excellent barristers or politicians.... would bore their opponent into submission with their EXTREME STUBBORNESS.....

mustrunmore · 20/11/2006 21:46

Ledodgy; I was round the corner from you in Bangor, doing history too
Weaselmum; I went with my then boyfriend who turned into 1st husband

I did mainly social and economic, with a bit of political, and other modules were greek hist, Welsh hist, archaeology. Did my special subject in English Towns 1500-1700.

mustrunmore · 20/11/2006 21:47

Oh, and I'm another person with a pointless PGCE not being used

Skyler · 20/11/2006 21:51

Must run more - Glad to see there is someone else with such a broad range of interests .

NotQuiteCockney · 20/11/2006 21:53

I went to McGill (Philosophy) and Concordia (CompSci).

mustrunmore · 20/11/2006 21:55

Ah, Skyler, broad and pointless, but I loved it did alot about pirates too, and crime, and the Tudor Navy. I really must get up the loft and read my folders nostalgically

Skyler · 20/11/2006 21:59

Yes don't you love it when someone says 'oh Sky did history she will know' and asks about something you never studied eg the Tudors and can't understand why you are clueless. Ask me about cheese in the Ancient world though....
Actually I reread some of my essays and exam questions recently and was amazed by what I used to know .

acnebride · 20/11/2006 21:59

History at Cambridge. The most enormous doss going.

Imagining dominiconnor's comments on this thread

hoxtonchick · 20/11/2006 22:00

mustrunmore · 20/11/2006 22:04

Yeah, I did too. And was amazed at the sheer volume i was actually bothered to write!
I did Classical Studies as an a level, so just recopied all my stuff out for 1st yr degree, and sailed though I can prob still recognise a dozen or so Greek Temples by their floorplans. What a talent!

acnebride · 20/11/2006 22:04

i won't know anyone, i never spoke to anybody else at the history building, but if they remember somebody having little naps in smelly sports kit at the Stirling, that was me

acnebride · 20/11/2006 22:05

mgdln btw

Katymac · 20/11/2006 22:06

Naval Architecture....but I didn't finish

mustrunmore · 20/11/2006 22:07

Oo, naval arch sounds good.

bobsmum · 20/11/2006 22:07

Pooka - snap!!!! (apart from the English) - when were you at Glasgow? I graduated in '98. About 90% of the Film and TV students in my class were v pretentious. But I've got no regrets about the fab course that was Hollywood in the 70s! Essays on the Towering Inferno's political commentary - utter class
Do I know you maybe??

bobsmum · 20/11/2006 22:08

Not saying you were one of the pretentious ones of course. NOte to self...stop digging holes....

sammac · 20/11/2006 22:11

Did town and country planning, then post grad business ed, then pgce. Never studied philosophy tho'.

Katymac · 20/11/2006 22:12

well the ratio of boys to girls was good (about 87:1) but the course disappointly hard

Jeepers · 20/11/2006 22:15

microbiology and then fancied enough stint at university and did medicine.......

Jeepers · 20/11/2006 22:20

another i mean! No philosophy involved apart from te delicious complexity of teeny tiny things
