A few of us have just discovered we all did philosophy - a connection we didn't realise we had.

Any more?

multitasker One day I'd like to study Social Anthropology.

I'm currently doing an MSc in something more vocational than Philosophy

DimpledThighs · 20/11/2006 11:12

Social Psychology with supplementry in Philosophy

For all the good it did me!

Gobbledigook · 20/11/2006 11:13

Lots of 'arts' rather than sciences here so far.

multitasker · 20/11/2006 11:15

Aderyn - I would highly recommend it - it was the best three years of my life and I even met my DH, so fun and games disguised as serious education was a good thing!

Ellbell · 20/11/2006 11:17

Italian and French.

Would love to study philosophy, though. Maybe when I retire!

slug · 20/11/2006 11:20

BA Psychology and Religious Studies with a minor in Philosophy.
Post Graduate Certificate in Economics
Post Graduate Certificate in Education
MSc in Computing

bettythebuilder · 20/11/2006 11:21

BA Jt Hons in Economics and Geography.

The nearest I got to philosophy was thinking "why the bloody hell am I doing Economics?"

poshgirlformerlymaggiesmama · 20/11/2006 11:23

yep philosophy here too. mostly derrida, though

imaginaryfriend · 20/11/2006 11:24

I did maths but did do one module on logic, artificial intelligence, turing machines etc. Does that count?

YoureTheOneForMeTatties · 20/11/2006 11:42

I did French and German.

And Philosophy in 1st year

Did my final year dissertation on Freud and Lacan.

Tutter · 20/11/2006 11:43

earlysbird - me too, french and spanish

my place was originally for french and russian but i bottled it when i realised (a) it was going to be too much like hard work and (b) i couldn't face a whole year in russia

lucycat · 20/11/2006 11:46

BSc (hons) Geography and Biological Sciences - I'm a scientist >>

Secondary PGCE in Geography and Humanities too - mad woman.

mrsflowerpot · 20/11/2006 11:48

French and German. Philosophy module would have been useful - we read several philosophers' works and were supposed to read up and study the historical and philosophical context for ourselves as we went along, but the lure of the college bar was always too strong.

fizzbuzz · 20/11/2006 12:00

Fashion. Some people used to refer to it as BA in Hobbies which really pissed me off.
Then PGCE (why?!!)

speedymama · 20/11/2006 12:01

Degree and PhD in Chemistry.

hatwoman · 20/11/2006 12:05

aha - your comments on the facts thread make perfect sense!

NotQuiteCockney · 20/11/2006 14:45

Way more philosophy students around than I'd expect, particularly given how rare female philosophy students were, at least in Canada.

I have a BA in Philosophy and a graduate diploma in computer science. I liked Wittgenstein, but did my thesis on the philosophy of Psychology (Szasz a bit, but more Basaglia, or Laing).

I did a BA in Maths and Economics, but we had to do 3 subjects in our first year and I did philosophy for that. It was very popular as it was seen as easy to pass and reasonably interesting. I didn't really like it much tbh.

imaginaryfriend · 20/11/2006 15:35

NQC - most of the people dp teaches are female. It's rare he has a male student. Yet most of his peers are male, you rarely get a female philosophy lecturer. Which means that either it's a closed old-boy network of teachers or more women are studying philosophy than they used to. Or, of course, more women study philosophy then go onto a different career than men who stick to it like a lifeline. Well, mine does. Philosophy is like his blood.

helenhismadwife · 20/11/2006 15:58
