I have had horrible pains all day..... they feel like periiod pains. As the day has progressed they have been getting worse and worse.

Nurofen isnt touching it. Im totally exhausted by it and just want to sleep. Im sat here crying because I dont know what to do. I took painkillers nearly an hour ago anf they just arent working and I just want to sleep.

I agree that calling you back is a good sign.

What can you do to keep yourself occupied and relaxed until they call you? Have you got some soothing music on? Do you think a hot water bottle might be comforting like someone else suggested?

I would tell you a joke, but I don't know anything and laughing might hurt you more.

It is scary being on your own and in pain, especially when you have children in your care and it's nighttime too. Don't apologise . I'm glad it's easing a little.

Can you lie down at all? Trying different positions you might find one that's more comfy perhaps?

Do you have a tupperware bowl? Fill it with hot water and put a towel between you and the bowl, it will do the same job. Just try not to spill it

You can make a warm pad with a disposable nappy if you have one? Carefully run the tap to a hot, but not burning hot temp and then slowly fill a nappy with the warm/hot water. they hold their heat remarkably well . Be careful not to overfill or you'll get damp .

Also, make sure you're not wearing any tight clothing or anything with elastic round your middle -even knickers. Maybe that's obvious , but easy to forget simple things when you're feeling a bit panicky.

OK I'm off to bed now. Will check back in the morning. Hope you get some sleep and that they call back quickly.

Well panic over. I just went to the loo and I have come on. Have make shift hotwater bottle now too.
I feel really stupid now..... but I have never ever had pain like this with period pain before.... ok it can be bad but its managable. I mean I had 2 kids so I know how horrible labour pain is and this is really on that scale.

The hot water bottle isnt really helping.

sorry for wasting evryones time.

don't feel bad. it may be a cyst bursting or something, that's really sore. although you know that bleeding far from rules out an ectopic pregnancy? what colour is the blood and did you have a good think about those possible pregnancy dates?

im due on around now so assumed this morning from the niggles I was having that it was just that.

They are sending a dr out to me because Im on my own with the 2 children. The lady thought it could be to do with falopian tube or kidneys so now im totally freaking out. The pain is still pretty bad. Burst into tears on the phone. They must think im a right idiot.

I don't think anyone would say you are wasting their time! Being in pain can be so scary, especially when alone.

I would definitely go to a GP anyway, especially if you usually aren't in that much pain when coming on.

Do you think you can try to get some sleep now?

why are you putting yourself down like this? you're in pain, it's their JOB to check that you're okay... i hope you are, but there is a good reason to suspect that you aren't, so they are right to investigate.

plus, it is what they're paid for.

AitchTwoZone · 19/04/2010 00:50

anyway, i genuinely want you to think about dates for pregnancy etc. because tbh if you are having an ectopic pg the chance of the out of hours doc having a clue about the condition is slim.

They won't think you are an idiot, they will rightly assume that you are worried and in a lot of pain! I am glad they are sending a doctor out. If it turns out to "just" be your period don't feel bad about calling them out either. It's their job and they want to make sure people are alright!

Let us know how you are. And keep chatting on here if it makes you feel any better

unusual pelvic pain with periods isn't something to be sniffed at... it could be a few things like endometriosis or ruptured cyst or it could just be randomly severe dysmenorrhoea.

I honestly dont know.... I know I came on just vefore I went on holiday which was feb 22..... so that would make this about right. My cycle is usually slightly longer than 28 days.

The pain is pretty constant but there are no other symptoms.
eg distention, tenderness, high temp, urinary symptoms.thats all fine.

any history of endo, ovarian cysts etc and none of those either.

The on call dr just called me. She told me to take 2 paracetamol. She said I could go down there but I dont think I could manage with the kids. So I have to call bk in an hour if its no better or book an appointment to see my gp in the morning. She was pretty puzzled.

I went for an std check a while bk (after finding out exp had cheated whilst he had been with me) and there was some suggestion that I might have endometriosis but it never got followed up and I didnt really think it was very important. I dont even know what it is tbh just recall it being mentioned.

you can combine paracetamol and ibuprofen so it's not a bad idea.

definitely call back if it's no better after an hour. they will come and see you at home if you're a lone parent during the night.

is it sore when you press on your abdo?

is it more to one side?

is it better now that you've got your periods.

lower back pain? shoulder pain?

endo is tremendously painful, i believe.

never mind about your period, though, when did you have sex? and are you sure that your last period was completely normal?

do you have fibroids? A degenerating fibroid can be agonising (I know - I ended up in A&E with one in jan this year) albeit not afaik esp dangerous.

Report

i have endo.

i often had gps at my house in the small hours with me writhing about in agony and them telling me there was nothing wrong.

if the pain doesn't go away or comes back next month, you must demand further tests. they are notoriously awful at diagnosing endo.

do you ever have pain during intercourse or bowel movements?

codeine combined with paracetamol is effective for severe pain by the way.
