For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

We've got slush too. I was running a bit late for pre-school anyway so threw ds and dd in the double buggy then could barely push it up the drive through the slush. Had to throw them in the car I'm so rubbish!

I managed 5 portions this morning for breakfast though and will walk to school for pick-up.

ThePinkOne · 11/01/2010 20:45

Wooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooo!!! 10 and indeed 10

apple juice
raisins
apple
banana
satsumas
cherry tomatoes (although dd pinched one)
cucumber (although dd and ds pinched a stick)
cabbage
carrots
sweetcorn (in pasta - not a full portion)
dried apricots
plum

And 10 mins on eye toy kinetic which DH just set up for me oh and walking to school pushing 20+lb ds through the slush. Boy that's hard work. Much harder than snow or ice!

Stickers and streamers and party poppers for me please!!!!!!!!!!!

I've also had spatone, kiki superfood and a multivitamin so I'm glowing with health.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/01/2010 20:51

mayor - I could easily join you on a detox but I think it would be cheating as I don't really drink alcohol, I don't drink coffee and I only drink 1 cup of tea a day. I sound very square don't I?!

Wo-hoo Pink, get you!

banana x2
blueberries
salad leaves x2
cucumber x2
hummus
tomatoes
celery
spinach

I would have had 10/10 but my first yoga class was cancelled. How very dare they!!!

SuperBunny · 11/01/2010 21:26

Ooo, 10 - well done!

I'd love to detox but know full well that I won't manage it so I won't bother lying to you.

MayorNaze · 12/01/2010 11:42

ooh well done!!

the detox is not going quite as well as i planned but it is still going...no caffeine went up the creek but then i reasoned that i only drink 1-2 teas and 1 coffee a day, so really wasn't too bad...

have drunk lots more water and done exercise dvd yesterday and today, plus lots of tramping round town with a heavy rucksack full of f&v (i had to do some shopping, it wasn't some weird 10/10 penance )

NO ALCOHOL THOUGH!!! yay me. and there is half full bottle of red in the kitchen as well. i am actually not a big drinker, but can quite easily fall into the habit of a daily glass of vino/g&t - feel so much better when i DON'T though, plus it tastes better if it is an occasional treat

thus endeth the sermon

am off to have another crack at buying grains and keenwah and whatnot -had to buy dh razor blades and moisturiser yesterday and they cost £20 i am far lower maintenance than that!!!

as you were, my children...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 12/01/2010 12:19

keenwah???!! eh?

MayorNaze · 12/01/2010 13:17

quinoa darling, apparently that's how you say it...

wtf do you eat with it is what i'm interested in now...?

MayorNaze · 12/01/2010 14:38

while i'm here...

spinach
courgette
banana
satsumas
raisins

oh ffs it seems so much more when you're eating it

and am now reading the packed lunch thread as my lot are so damn fussy

SuperBunny · 12/01/2010 19:42

Quinoa instead of rice with chili. Or use as couscous. Or make into big salad. Or a sort of porrodge for breakfast.

littlerach · 12/01/2010 21:44

My F&V intake has been crapola today

And my exercise.

Tomorrow is another day...

Forecast snow here tonight. Has been on and off fo rpast few hours....

I would detox but will not give up coffee! I don't really drink much at all either, for th eksat year, and do feel better for it. And it does taste nicer now when I go out (not often enough!)

The packed lunch thread is a bit so am staying off! However, having witnessed the total crap some kids bring to some preschool - bag crsips, packet of mini choc digestives, 2 cheese strings, corner yoghurt and oacket of sweets?? All fo rone 3 year old? That kind of article doesn't change people's ways though.

MayorNaze · 13/01/2010 08:47

oh dear god they are off school AGAIN!!!!!!

MayorNaze · 13/01/2010 13:57

i apologise if i sounded less than delighted at the thought of having all of my gorgeous children at home with me all day.

i take it all back - ds and dd1 have played out for 4 HOURS!!and only came in as i had cooked lunch!!!

dd2 (who would be here anyway) has played happily on the kitchen floor with saucepans, spoons and dry pasta, bless.

i have done an hour of davina and even eaten some keenwah. it was ok. i expect i shall eat it again but i was not totally blown away by its utter deliciousness.

i fear i may now have to escort dd2 outside for a bit as it is only fair but i doubt she
will last very long...ho hum...

carrot
banana
apple
leek
courgette
spinach

keenwah and pinenuts also surely count for something?

au revoir mon petite snowflakes

MayorNaze · 13/01/2010 13:58

and raisins. add them to the list as well

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 13/01/2010 14:01

Ah yes, keenwah, I know what you mean now I guess it only tastes of anything if you season it.

I'm v impressed at the dc being out for 4 hours.

Yesterday:

banana
blueberries
celery
cucumber
salad leaves
hummus
apple
dried fruit
peas
carrots

No real exercise to speak of, though I did lump ds around at his music class!

MayorNaze · 13/01/2010 14:58

...and we're in again!

where ARE you all??!!!

eating keenwah i expect

littlerach · 13/01/2010 16:28

Hmph, we were at school otday.

the only local school open

So preschool had ot be open so I worked.

Actually, it was cool as we built a huge snowman.

SuperBunny · 13/01/2010 18:38

We have no snow at all. Not even a single snowflake. Am highly disappointed as I was hoping for a peaceful day at work.

Chickpea stew (chickpeas, carrots, tomatoes, onions) 2 - 3
Olives
Oh

ThePinkOne · 13/01/2010 19:55

Quinoa stuffed peppers are nice. Fry some onions, garlic and mushrooms. Boil quinoa (according to instructions which I have long forgotten!) mix with onions etc, add cubed cheese (kind of anti-detox but never mind ) and put in part-baked halved peppers to finish off. Yummy

Raisins (lemon infused)
Apple juice
Satsumas
Pear
Carrots/cuc/tomato/spring onion (2)
Beans (2)
Sweetcorn/tomato/peppers
Banana

  1. Again. And 7 yesterday + 10 exercise!

I'm going to go to bed now instead of exercising. I'm full of cold and don't think I can breathe my way through an exercise dvd!

ThePinkOne · 15/01/2010 16:14

Yesterday was another 10/10 (well half an hour exercise!!)

And today so far raisins, apple juice, apple, satsuma/banana (not quite a whole portion!) carrot

Where is everyone?!

Oh and the rat's gone so I can compost again!

MayorNaze · 16/01/2010 14:24

hello fruity Ones

who eats humzingers then? don't they look awfully like dog chews?!! the pineapple ones are well nice though and apparently one bar counts as one portion

pineapple x2
banana

but there will be more. i'm sure there will be more...

SuperBunny · 16/01/2010 19:08

Hello lovely bitches.

Good news re rat!

What's a humzinger?

I need non tomato-based meal suggestions, please. I am fed up of tinned tomatoey sauces and stews and stuff. Any suggestions?

ThePinkOne · 16/01/2010 20:56

You're vegan aren't you Bunny? I'm a bit stuck for meal ideas where I can't suggest yogurt, cheese or cream!! But if you have a cheesy cheese alternative, what about cheese and potato pie? Roasted veg - we would have with a piece of salmon but maybe you could have with veggie sausages? Do you have a cream cheese type thing? Pasta with that and peas.

So, today. 15 mins or so exercise. Pear, apple, satsumas - all shared with 2 piggy children!! Cucumber, cabbage, sweetcorn (2 altogether). Mmm. That's it. Busy day though.
Have shopped so will do better tomorrow.

Not heard of Humzinger bars - guess they're dried fruit bars?

SuperBunny · 16/01/2010 21:33

No, I'm not vegan Pink. I was for a while but am a big fat failure. Cheese, yoghurt and cream are fine (although really need to eat less of them). Roast veg is a good idea though. Will do that. Thanks

SuperBunny · 17/01/2010 20:50

Spinach
Higgety Pie (2?)
Olives
Apple
Peach (tinned)
Juice

Not whole portions of each but better than of late.

Run around on the beach with DS

MayorNaze · 18/01/2010 10:14

good morning!!!

hunzingers are overpriced fruity bar things that i bought in a fit of guilt for lunchboxes after that thread...three lunchboxes today...place your bets here as t how many will be eaten...

are you happy yet? are you??

rasins
banana

but its only 10am, give me a chance. plus ia heva done half hour of davina and hoovering, now hoovering is exercise all by itself as far as i can tell.

the things i do to boost morale...

SB - can you do things like protein and 2 veg, ie vegi sausage and mash, quiche and veg, jacket spuds and stuff? soup?
tnoghit here is sausages, mash, mushrooms, onions, carrots, brocolli and peas

tomorrow is brocolli and cauliflower canneloni in tomato sauce but i guess that would count as a tomato based one...

have a happy day, fruity friends!!!

ps i LOVE higgety pie
