For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

No exercise but:

juice
peas
beans
mushrooms

and I made myself a plate of fruit (satsuma, banana, blueberries, apple, dried apricots) so if I eat all that before I go to bed, which I will cos I'm a greedy fecker, I will have managed 9. Woohoo.

SuperBunny · 24/01/2010 18:40

or it might be a clementine. I dont know. What is the difference? I think you need 2 to count as a portion but I'm only having one and am counting it. And I don't care.

TigerFeet · 25/01/2010 12:20

mmmm croissants

not what i needed to read on this 'ere vegger thread

we saw cormorants when we were in cornwall a couple of months ago, dd1 and i were charmed, watched them for ages

dd2 appears to be having another growth spurt [joy] she is enormous already thankyouverymuch, she is overtaking a lot of older babies sizewise, the gannet

i had to carry her about yesterday as i forgot the bloody sling and she was not happy in the buggy

can i count manually lugging a baby about as exercise? my arms feel more toned i may start using her instead of dumbells.

satsumas/clementynes/mandarins - aren't they diff varieties of the same thing, you know, like cox/braeburn/gala apples? i may be making this up.

i have signed up for bf peer supporter course - pink aren't you doing something similar? how have you found it?

SuperBunny · 25/01/2010 18:49

BF peer support sounds good.

A clementine is the hesperidium of a variety of mandarin orange

The satsuma (Citrus unshiu) is a seedless and easy-peeling citrus mutant of Chinese origin.

So there.

Peas
beans
veg pie (?)
juice
Satsumas (2)
Blueberries

TigerFeet · 25/01/2010 19:45

bunny i bow to your superior easy peel citrus knowledge

sweet potato
squash
onion
mushrooms
carots
peas
sweetcorn
raisins
banana

not a full portion of each so perhaps 7 in total

TigerFeet · 25/01/2010 19:46

oh yes, oj

so 8

no exercise today due to hungry dd2

SuperBunny · 25/01/2010 20:13

Thank you

It was Wikipedia

pointydug · 25/01/2010 20:20

can innocent smoothies really be two of your F&v a day? I thought juice only counted as one.

I keep seeing the ad and wonmdering whether to buy a shed load of the stuff.

ThePinkOne · 25/01/2010 20:35

Yes Tiger, I finished the course before christmas. It was good and I've been supporting someone I knew from toddlers already!! I guess it'll be the same course cause they're doing it county wide.

I ran for half an hour yesterday. About 4k I reckon. And 40 mins of yoga today

Pointy, it says that juice can only count as one because of the fibre being taken out but I guess smoothies have more of the fibre in even though it's blitzed. I don't think they should be able to say it

SuperBunny · 25/01/2010 20:37

a smoothie isn't juice though. Juice has the fibre left out but in a smoothie, it is still there, all whizzed up. I would count homemade smoothies more than once, I think (if it had a banana and a portion of blueberries, I'd count it as 2) but I'm not sure about a bought one.. I think Franny'd say you can only count it once.

SuperBunny · 25/01/2010 20:38

oh, x posted with Pink.

Where's Toot?

TigerFeet · 26/01/2010 10:03

I ed about the innocent smoothie thing too, I instantly thought "well Franny won't agree with THAT"

That's good to hear Pink, great that you're already putting it to good use Was there homework?

OJ so far today.

Yes where is Toot??

pointydug · 26/01/2010 20:05

lol @ us all thinking of franny re the innocents.

I'm glad I'm not alone in my scepticism.

SuperBunny · 26/01/2010 20:30

Is Franny not lurking? She'll be pleased that we still think of her as veg guru

pointydug · 26/01/2010 20:45

She flits about and flutters her eyelashes behind a veil, I think.

ThePinkOne · 26/01/2010 23:23

Tiger, no homework. But I didn't really feel like I learned much new either. (too much time on here!) Some of the people had very anti-formula ideas which made me a bit. FB me if you want to ask anything, or chat about it.

ThePinkOne · 28/01/2010 22:19

20 mins of yoga.

Nutella.

TigerFeet · 29/01/2010 17:05

Nutella - cocoa beans and hazlenuts - two portions there surely?

It is horrible out today, really cold and it keeps sleeting/hailing. Tried to get out for a walk earlier but it was just too minging out.

Off to take dd1 to rainbows in a bit, then I will come back to much veg (with shepherd's pie)

will probably manage 6 today all told. resolving to do better tomorrow

I didn't get any fruit in with breakfast which means i'm stuffed for the day portions wise

porridge with apple and sultanas tomorrow i think, i may even push the boat out and chuck a smidge of cinnamon in. omnomnom.

SuperBunny · 29/01/2010 17:11

Sleet & hail here too.

Tiger, you know that nuts don't count, you big cheat. However, beans do so Nutella counts as ONE portion only, I'm afraid Pink. I must buy some.

Um, olives, onion, tomatoes on pizza
Blueberry cereal bar
Toffee crunch icecream

I miss TooT.

ThePinkOne · 30/01/2010 08:53

Snow.

I miss TooT too

Rubbish eating yesterday but shopping today so should improve for a few days!

ThePinkOne · 31/01/2010 12:08

Blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Blueberry muffins in the oven.

ThePinkOne · 31/01/2010 12:40

MayorNaze · 31/01/2010 18:59

SuperBunny · 31/01/2010 19:33
