For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

SuperBunny · 25/12/2009 20:56

Hope you all had a lovely day.

Shoulda asked this days ago but what do you veggie folk eat for xmas dinner?

ThePinkOne · 26/12/2009 20:59

Franny's veggie and they have (or have done and I think it's a tradition) lots of picky bits from thier fave deli like olives and nice bread.

We had a lovely day. Lovely pressies, food, company etc. All good

littlerach · 26/12/2009 21:21

Meery Christmas everyone

We went to ILs and had nut roast.

oh, and an interesting sweet potato dish by my American BIl - sweet potatoes in a dish with brown sugar, nuts and marshmallows.
It was starngely delicious

SB, is it a "traditional" dish to serve at Xmas?

Today we have been to my mum's and had lots of picky bits to scoff

Very lovely presents, especially from dh.
And dds got (far too many) good presents and can't wait to play with them tomorrow. Feels like we haven't been at home til now!

FrayedKnotRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 26/12/2009 21:34

I have been mostly playing table top pool and scalextric. I think I like DS' toys better as he gets older

FrannyandZooey · 26/12/2009 21:54

hello dear veggers
the finest seasonal greetings to you all
yes we had lots of nice bits for christmas dinner - easy and gorgeous
artichokes and garlic bread and mozzarella things, i can't remember all of it
then for tea we had a baked camembert with wedges of potato and veg to dip in
in fact the whole event has been an artery clogging delight - the fridge looks like we mugged a herd of cows

i hope everyone is well? I bump into few veggers when i wander around active convos occasionally
mostly cracked not being on here though, life is too ruddy busy and there's no point being on here SOMETIMES is there, you have to LIVE on here really to get the benefit of it

ds1 got fab board game where you have to move little dwarves around a wood, in the shadows from a candle, i am certain it is a steiner thing but dp and i got v excited about it
it is meant to be co-operative but we got highly competitive and managed to win

i thought of you all on Christmas Day when he was body popping to 70s disco music with his hair in a mohican, wearing a harry potter costume
i thought "MN would appreciate this"

ds2 still not really walking! is nearly 18 months
understands every ruddy word you say and INSISTENT on wanting to do everything
he is a big lovely loon
he is starting to put words and signs together to make little "sentences"
one of his first ones was "mama trumped"

well it's the fibre isn't it

have a fibrous new year
guad bless us one and all

ThePinkOne · 27/12/2009 10:40

FRAAANNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Hi! I just spotted you on the chocolate thread!

ThePinkOne · 27/12/2009 10:45

I've heard of that sweet potato dish for thanksgiving - they have a marshmallow spread I think they use in the US.

Franny I can't believe DS2's 18m!! Although of course he is cause DS is 10m [fshcok] We got DS a push-along walker and he took straight to it!

We've all got loads of fab new toys. I got a DS (as in nintendo - not another boy!)

Need to have a New Year push on the old health front. I think I'll do a 10k run next year.

Anyone got plans for New Years Eve?

MaskedYurter1 · 27/12/2009 12:36

I am working on new year's eve. Whoopdee doo.
Redwood celebration roast and tofu wieners for christmas dinner.
Festive hugs and stuff xx

HumBuggerance · 27/12/2009 12:51

rofl at mama trumped!

Hello all! We had an ace Christmas and today the children are enjoying something of their own invention called Play Day - which is the day after Boxing Day where you have NO obligations to get dressed or do anything other than play with your new toys!

I'm a big fan of Play Day. it means I can eat chocolate and read books without guilt.

We are sad fuckers with no babysitters or friends with big houses so we have no plans for NYE. I hate NYE.

I have, however been rathe good on the F&V front.

oh, sorry. It's me M. Olly R by the way

littlerach · 27/12/2009 14:14

Nope, sad fuckers here too and no plans for NY eve, though we are toying with the idea of going out for curry with friends.

WE are having play day here, too, but we are dressed as dd1 saved her money from christmas and throughtout the last few motnhs and had enpugh to buy a ds . oops, like Pink, a nintendo one, not a brother!!! Even better was when she got to Argos and went to pay, it had anothwer £20 off

Dh got a (requested) tea pot fro Christmas and he and dd2 are sitting drinking tea , tjough dd2 doesn't really like it.

ThePinkOne · 27/12/2009 16:42

ROFL at mama trumped too!!

Masked is that actual woohoo at NYE working? My best NY was when I worked in the local pub. I knew everyone (and they all bought me a drink!) and had space cause I was behind the bar, not squashed up in some pub with a load of random strangers, and I didn't drink too much cause I was working so didn't feel too rough the next day. Great!

Play day is good. DH and DD went out to spend some xmas money on Lego (DH!) and get some bread but apart from that we have been doing very little

TheMollyRogerAndTheIvy · 27/12/2009 17:49

I'd love a chance to make some money out of a night I loathe...will happily swap places!

MayorNaze · 27/12/2009 17:52

hello all

festive xmassy hugs all round!

i badly need some cheese...xmas is a good excuse to pile it in...but am getting a cold so perhaps not so much of the dairy...

xmas lovely...kids lovely...even MIL lovely (better not go too far )

house a complete utter tip of wrapping paper presents and cat hair. ahhh c'est la vie

SuperBunny · 27/12/2009 20:49

Franny, hello!

Sweet potatoes with marshmallow and brown sugar is a traditional thanksgiving dish. I always when I eat it but sort of like it. It's a strange thing.

Marshmallow fluff is different: spreadable stuff for sandwiches.

Thanks for veggie ideas for xmas day. Why is maskedyurter working on NYE? I shall be home alone with DS [boring]

TheMollyRogerAndTheIvy · 27/12/2009 20:53

where is my curry? I put my order in with dh at 6.30. He 'forgot to order it' (ie was sulking pstairs because ds wanted to watch twilight with me)

I am weaaaakkk with hunger (aloo sag and mushroom bhajji, in case you were wondering....)

FrayedKnotRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 27/12/2009 21:45

I'll be home probably alone (with DS) on NYE too.

Shall we have a party on here, like days of yore?

BBBee · 27/12/2009 22:08

veggers tra-la-la-la-la

hope you are all happy and healthy. i see some of you on facebook and email and stuff but as franny said - you can't nip on and off here you have to be here all the time or it doesn't work.

anyway - new year boot camp - albeit solo1

x

Boco · 27/12/2009 22:24

Oooh look, the veg thread! Hello veggers, hello beee!

Hope you all had a good Christmas. Ours was fun. Franny I thought of you because dd2 asked for disco music for christmas and has been doing crazee moves ever since. Not that you do crazee moves - but I think ds would approve.

SuperBunny · 28/12/2009 15:54

Turkish Delight

TheMollyRogerAndTheIvy · 28/12/2009 18:37

I know many of us have drifted away from this thread but I like the thought that there is always a candle burning in the yurt village hall window to guide us in.

Any fruity folkers - I was given the most marvellous album cd thingy. Called Gather In the Mushrooms, it is a compliation of acid folk from the 70s and it is marvellous. Even without hallucinogenics....
