For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Gosh, what a busy bunch.

Hello Chairmum

DS just rode his bike all the way to the park - thats about 2 miles on 2 wheels, no stabilisers. Woohoo! It's the first time we've tried actually going anywhere to meet people on his bike. This will be good for me because he goes so fast I have to trot to keep up then sprint as I see him approaching a road so I can catch him in case he forgets to stop.

Well done on getting into jeans Fran. I have never seen Flash Dance. Or Pretty in pink.

I am about to eat potatoe.

littlerach · 26/03/2009 19:48

So now we're really listing?

Raisisn
banana
celery
lots of carrots
dried banana
pepper
tomatoes
more carrots
pear (hard one)
pineapple juice

pinkspottywellies · 26/03/2009 20:10

I have a question. It says a handful is a portion, but I can't fit a watermelon in my hand. Is watermelon not a fruit then?

Huge salad - 3 (maybe 4 if I count the peanut butter on my celery)
Banana
juice
raisins
kiwi/plum

DS put on 12oz in a week

SuperBunny · 26/03/2009 20:19

No Pink. It's not. You need a potatoe.

SuperBunny · 26/03/2009 20:22

Or a coconut. They fit in your hand so must count.

pinkspottywellies · 26/03/2009 20:24

Thanks SB. Do cashew nuts count? I heard they're a legume? I can fit quite a lot in my hand - is that more than one portion?

I'm glad the sticky's gone - I felt terribly exposed!

FrannyandZooey · 26/03/2009 20:32

naughty veggers

ChairmumMiaow · 26/03/2009 20:35

Well on my first day I managed:

banana
strawberries
vegetable fritata (at least 2 portions, possibly 3)
spag bol (with veg inside, so probably 2 portions)

Not very good, but better than I normally manage.

FrayedKnot · 26/03/2009 20:38

Pink I think we could make a special exception that you must eat 10 portions of cake and 3 of f&v just for a few days, to recover

Blueberries
Pears (2 large)
Grapes
Salad leaves
Baby Corn
Shrooms
Leeks
Peas
Strawberries

I lol'd about putting Franny in the corner all day today, on and off.

I saw lots of arty films when I was a student but I think I must have always been drunk when I went to the cinema because I can hardly remember any of them

We used to go to the pub and then the late night double bill.

Boco · 26/03/2009 21:53

I am allergical to potatoe. Do rices count?

dd2 has a fever of 38.9. And cough is worse - so am trying not to panic, and trying to get lots done now in case it's another pneumonia. But am going a bit cross eyed now. DD1 going back to school tomorrow as she's been better today, just grotty mooded.

ahundredtimes · 26/03/2009 22:05

Oh no, poor dds. Did she fight off the last chest infection or has it just gathered pace? or got same thing as dd1 had. Poor you, you've had such a run of it.

My news is that i went up to read stories and all dc in ds1's room in their pjs and I walked in and said 'everyone to your rooms, I'm here to read'

and they said 'Oh don't worry about stories tonight. We're playing poker'

That can't be right can it? And I was a bit surprised by this and said 'oh, right, okay. Just a couple of hands then' and limped downstairs.

And they were too, proper poker! Dear god.

Goodbye winnie the pooh, hello Vegas.

Other news is I had a salad.

And I need to work, so am going to pop off for a bit, but will be back anon.

Go well fruitiers. And when I come back, I expect to you see all in your OWN topic.

Boco · 26/03/2009 22:27

I think it's just gathered pace, she's had a cough and a wheeze for a while and was hoping she was fighting it off as she wasn't getting actually ill with it, but temp really high and she was quite out of it this afternoon and evening. It's just constant at the moment!

Loving the poker! How cool they are - you need to get them those visors to wear.

SuperBunny · 26/03/2009 22:35

Chairmum, that was a good day 1

lol @ allergic to potatoe. Rices count. I had rices pudding (2)

ahundred, next time they'll hav dark glasses and cigars.

Pepper

TooTicky · 27/03/2009 06:43

Morning.

TooTicky · 27/03/2009 06:44

Oh, LR's hair is not too bright, it is lovely. And so is she, but you all know that.

TooTicky · 27/03/2009 07:23

Oh, and does anybody have a child who likes lego knights? We have a bag of bits which is driving me insane because it keeps leaking would be great fun.
Can't promise all the pieces are there for any particular knight but you can make funky combinations and mutants...

mangolassi · 27/03/2009 07:46

Morning all - I missed a 10/10 drama - what was the outcome? New section or not?

Stuffit has a sick child, she was on here worrying about dengue earlier (hoping it's just bad stomach bug though)

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 07:55

toot are they heavily laden with weaponry?

miaow excellent start. are you aware of portion chart (linked in second post on thread i think) which is very helpful.

morning all
am feeling jaded
so what is new?
did i mention i can fit in my jeans again? maybe i did once or twice
i can't breathe or eat when i am wearing them but still

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 07:56

fruity vibes to ill children
boco hope you feel better yourself
100 see you in a bit!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/03/2009 08:01

Oh bloody hell, I hope Stuffit jnr is ok.

Get well vibes to Boco dd too.

100x, you can't go for a bit, I finished the book last night and I have questions.....

That's a good first day chairmum. A good tip is to pack a lot in at breakfast. For example I have homemade granola that has dried fruit in it, then I add blueberries and a chopped banana to it. That's 3, so you're nearly a third of the way there already, add a glass of oj and that's another.

Well done ickle Pink, 12oz is impressive!
