Aaaaaaaaaah leek out! Le leek c'est chic - 10/10 Thread

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/03/2009 08:31

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

What things? Prawns?

Were they yours?

ahundredtimes · 25/03/2009 14:05

Ha. Yes, they were, all mine! Prawns and ginger and something long and green, and peppers and mushrooms and endless loveliness courtesy of dh via Wagamama. We live it up big here he and I.

How HORRIBLE to have ear ache. I'd cry I think. I hate ear ache. Have you gone and got something for it?

Tatties · 25/03/2009 14:18

Oh thank you for all food suggestions! I will read through properly later when ds isn't shouting at me!

Re. 10/10 topic - I can see reasons why people wouldn't want a separate topic. I like the idea of it though, because I would like to be able to find the thread without having to go through the Health section to find it (I have hidden the whole Health topic because I don't want to see certain kinds of thread titles coming up in Active Convos - some of you might know what I'm on about.) But I would be equally happy if the thread were moved to a different topic altogether - say Other Subjects. I wouldn't want any change like this to happen purely on account of my loopiness though, and if people think the current set up is better for keeping the thread low key, then that is more worthy.

littlerach · 25/03/2009 14:21

I do agree with Lemur actually.

It is like a little haven much of the time.

Grr for ear ache, it is horrid, isn't it.

mollyroger · 25/03/2009 14:48

have you tried a few drop of warmed olive oil in ear for earache??

It is wretched.

I have been in bed since sunday. I went back to work today v wobbly and had the satistfaction of people going '''oo-er you don't look at all well..''

Not sure what I think of annexation of the froot loops. Quite thrilled by idea of imposters starting impostery veg thread though.
I want cod to do that.

Took all your advice and kept dd off, which was right really. And now dd2 chest bad. It's never ending - we're like victorian pauper family of consumptives. Why? What IS all this fricking fruit and veg for?

I went to dentist and I need a filling. My dentist is brutal, he cut the inside of my cheek with his pointy thing and I can't stop worrying it with my tongue.

Guad hope your earache better - earache the worst thing.

Boco · 25/03/2009 16:10

Ooh. That dentist story sounded a bit obscene. Sorry about that.

Guadalupe · 25/03/2009 16:33

Ew, ew, ew at you worrying the cheek cut with your tongue, but how interesting. Is there a flap? It's like the stomach sewing all over again, gruesome yet fascinatng.

Thank you for ear concern. It is tiresome and nagging but not extremely painful. I used to get extremely painful ones when I was younger, my ear drum was always bursting. Hopefully this will improve, will try the olive oil thing.

Lol, my friend was laughing at me from over the fence at the new house. She could hear me chatting with the handsome young builder. Then I called her to the wall to look at the pointing and then the new neighbour came and introduced herself so we were lined up chatting while he was doing cement mixing. I said, sorry, Joe, it looks like we are staring at you doesn't it. The new neighbour said, 'well, we are, we are admiring you very much indeed. Poor thing, he went bright red and we cackled like three Mrs Robinsons. I must apologise to him tomorrow.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 25/03/2009 16:39

Sorry for p'ing you off Guad....

Crap at namechanging. Crap at lurking. Crap at tongue in cheek humour....

SuperBunny · 25/03/2009 17:19

Hope the concert goes well, Stuffit

Tatties, I do have a rather long list of things I make although I usually stick with the same 8 meals or so and get bored. I can post list if you like.

It could last you a lifetime

Hey Mitsubishi, how are you?

SuperBunny · 25/03/2009 17:40

mollyroger · 25/03/2009 17:42

oh good point! Will go and look!

SuperBunny · 25/03/2009 17:43

Thanks LR. It is not all that amazing, I just like lists

SuperBunny · 25/03/2009 17:45

This burger recipe looks good. I reckon you could probably make it without the egg if you wanted to.

Tatties · 25/03/2009 18:02

Ooh yes please to lists! If it is not too much trouble.

We do like sausagey things (often have these for brunch at the weekend) and do have quorn occasionally. But prefer to cook from scratch as much as possible (although is the last thing I feel like doing come 5pm, which is why I like the bulk cooking so much!)

FrannyandZooey · 25/03/2009 18:38

tatties
frittata is good - fry up any old veg and cover with beaten eggs
wraps very good as they can help themselves and wrap it up - popular IME
we have them with hummus, avocado, different salad bits, beans, cheese, sour cream, etc. you could also do pittas
baked potato with things? beans? hummus? they are nice if you scoop the insides out, mash with filling and put back in oven. especially if filling is wodges of butter and cheese and sweetcorn
tofu kebabs - great fun to help make them. they;re nice with mushrooms and peppers
or halloumi kebabs?
roasted veg chips are great with quorn or tofu - eg mushroom, aubergine, courgette, or things like butternut squash, sweet potato, parsnip
