For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Take ibuprofen and paracetomol if you feel that rough, watch out for white spots on your tonsils. Was it you that had tonsillitis recently? Does it feel as bad as that?

I read something about gargling hydrogen peroxide, or pouring it in the ears but I haven't tried it funnily enough. I would gargle with something anti-bacterial though, if you can't face much then salt. Good that dd hasn't got pneumonia.

Stuffit - hope things improve with your lot too.

My friend works on a perfume counter and she gave me lots of samples today. Haven't worn perfume for years. Every time I move or turn I get a different smell and it's like, Where's that granny, or, eurrgh, what's that sickly pinky stink or every so often one that is quite nice but I can't remember what it was or where it is. I expect this is not the ideal way to try a new perfume.

SuperBunny · 27/03/2009 16:50

Happy birthday bee

Boco & Stuffit. Am glad it is 'only' croup, Boco. No idea re drugs. I'd go for a lemsip.

SuperBunny · 27/03/2009 16:53

Oh Guad, you reminded me of the episode of friends where Joey works as a perfume sprayer in a department store. They really are like that and I hate being accosted and threatened with a bottle of expensive scent when all I want to do is try on some sparkly shoes.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 16:53

Lemsip! Can you still get that? God it was rank, especially if it wasn't mixed properly and you get some slimy white, clayish mediciney bit at the bottom. I'd have a honey and lemon with loads of brandy and some painkillers myself. I am sure someone will say leave out the brandy though.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 16:55

She didn't accost me. She gave me all the samples in a bag and I stuck them on various parts and extremities all my myself. Fool.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 16:55

BY

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 16:55

That is all BY myself, not bye bye

Boco · 27/03/2009 17:03

Ok bye.

I got lemsip cold abdn flu capsules max strength. Throat not too bad, it's mainly my back and that crawly skin feeling. And the not thinking straight.

Hoping dp will be home soon and i will have hot orange and go to bed and then be fine later.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 17:05

Hot orange? All these retro drinks! You will be having spam fritters next.

Hope you feel better soon.

SuperBunny · 27/03/2009 17:08

I know she didn't accost you, Guad. It just reminded me of that. I always get a headache when I try new perfumes - I usually end up with several different ones on each wrist and then have no idea which is which.

Red Pepper (from a jar )
banana
melon (1/2 of one )

SuperBunny · 27/03/2009 17:08

I'm a fan of hot ribena when I am ill. My mum is bringing me some next week.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 17:09

Now you say that I DO have a headache, and an itchy chin. If I had a goatee I would narrow my eyes and stroke it.

SuperBunny · 27/03/2009 17:11

Yes, yes! Itchy chin - I get that too.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/03/2009 17:11

I can recommend the night and day cold/flu tablet things. They are fab and the generic ones are just as good as the Beechams.

I used to get tonsilitis (I had them out eventually) and I used to feel awful, much like the onset of flu. So yes it can make you feel bloody awful.

Guad, do you now remember why it is you don't wear perfume?

Brandy when you are ill is good, infact it is totally necessary

Boco · 27/03/2009 17:13

Don't you like hot orange when you have a cold? I used to have hot squash that makes your lungs itch, but don't buy squash so I have hot fresh orange, it's nice to swallow.

Boco · 27/03/2009 17:14

Hmm, brandy would be good.

When I wear perfume I often feel a bit weird about it.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 17:16

Yes, I am feeling like that blasted blue calla lily from the Simple advert.

I used to have hot squash when I was little. I make homey and lemon now but I am going to try hot orange juice next time. I might have it with a Crawfords jam ring.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 17:18

I have to go to a party now. It is an early one so children can come too. I have made a chickpea salad and some banana cake and I have told dh I will drive so he can drink. I might regret this later.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 17:19

There will be lots of food and I will feel like a tit consulting my oracle so I will have to gauge points in my head. This will be a test of will.

littlerach · 27/03/2009 17:48

I remember hot orange squash, it did make my mouth itch.

Dd1 has a friend round and they are getting on well, and they are playing and phew! Sometimes it is v wrought.

I have had a letter re her referral, there is a 4 month wait. In the meantime I have had to fill in a questionnaire. She seems ot tick pretty much every box
However, her teacher is v confident that she is bright enough to learn it all.

Enjoy the oarty Guad.

i am going to a Book Fair on Sunday and am looking forward to it.

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 18:44

oh we FINALLY have another referral for ds2's bot, in a month
i get home and look at the letter and it is for ADULT dermatology

start all over again at the doctor's on monday morning
you get sick of sitting there, don't you? ours are nice but one experienced one seems very stressed and recently prescribed something completely inappropriate for babies' skin (potent steroid cream), and told me to try rubbing it with a potato

the other is new and very earnest and young and takes forever to do everything, and does it all by the book, and flusters when i ask awkward questions gleaned from googling
