For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

we just had baked apples
ds2 absolutely inhales them
he sees the steam coming out of the bowls and his arms and legs start going like mad in his highchair
he eats the whole thing in chunks, and only the skin returns, like a cheque at the bank when you put it in the machine wrong

When the NHS is good, it's good. However most of the time it's average and can be like hitting your head against a brick wall. Maybe you can sort the referral mistake out over the phone, rather than having to go to the surgery. Maybe it's also something the practice manager should be aware of?

I haven't thought of baked apples, good idea. Baby Lemur gets hyper when he see's malt loaf, strawberries or raspberries.

banana
dried fruit
blueberries
oj
humous
grapes

Am going out for dinner, so there'll be some more, I just don't know what.

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 19:12

baked potato also hugely popular here lemur
i don#t think strictly recommended for this stage of weaning but i presume as you are doing strawberries you are like me being somewhat flexible with the rules

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 19:13

can you bake pears?

i tried over phone lemur but no-one wanted to deal with it
i kept getting passed around - "oh ring so and so they will change it"
you know how it goes somehow

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 19:16

banana
raisins
grapes
apple
cabbage
broccoli
corn
peas
dried apricots
banana again
raisins again

1 hour at gym with evil personal trainer who is obsessed with squats
she has a fabulous arse though and i do not, so i smile bravely and try to do them

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 19:21

oh you know those fab mix your own muesli people

i ordered some for my mother for mothers' day and it never arrived! they said they would send a replacement but i was still miffed as it meant she didn't get a present on the day
however we checked the address and i had totally ballsed up the post code i apologised and explained i was not the full ticket due to non sleeping baby and could they please send another and charge me while we waited for the first one to arrive

they sent another free of charge and said count it as a mothers' day present for me! lovely! their muesli is so delicious, i am going to go and plug it as healthy new parents' gift on the review section

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/03/2009 19:29

rules, schmules. If they can pick it up and eat, then that's good enough for me. I don't leave him unattended though. Baked potatoes a good idea too.

Squats were invented by the devil.

Hurrah for muesli people, now that is service for you.

Oh that's a nice story about the muesli Franny!

I really Made An Effort with dinner tonight, we had proper baked potatoes and I made veggie chilli to go with it and corn on the cob. Ds's cheeks were all buttery

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2009 20:04

tatties i thought of another meat and 2 veg meal - nut roast of course

FrayedKnot · 27/03/2009 20:28

Hello

Sorry to hear DD2 is poorly again Boco.

DS is also a bit under the weather and asked to go to bed at 6.30. I suspect I will be up at 2am probably.

FrayedKnot · 27/03/2009 20:32

Squats do give you a nicely shaped behind, I believe.

pinkspottywellies · 27/03/2009 20:39

Aw, bless the museli people!

Not read all. I have to wear a belt with my old jeans or they fall down. Just realised who warrior is too!

Made a lovely veg curry tonight. B/nut squash, onion, carrot, beans, mange tout, baby corn, mushroom, courgette, pepper, YUM! Even DH liked it although he did ask what meat was in it Probably had 3/4 portions plus tomato soup, raisins, apple juice. Wanted to do carrots, cuc etc at lunchtime but couldn't muster the energy.

Very tired atm and the milk monster is in full force. I can totally understand why people give up breastfeeding. DD was never so prolific! DS has been feeding all afternoon and not just wimpering a bit for it - screaming like he hasn't been fed for a week, when it's more like 5 mins! I'm too pig headede to give him formula though - I want to be able to say neither of them ever had it (disclaimer: not that there's anything wrong with formula, just have it in my head now!!)

Right. I'm going to bed cause apparently we have to be up in the morning at stupid o'clock to watch the F1 qualifying live.

Did you know the national dish of Australia is meat pie

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 21:32

Mmm, that muesli place sounded nice.

Party was good but the kids were mental. One boy was pushing ds2 round in his brother's wheel chair and he was screeching with laughter, then they were banned from upstairs because they somehow managed to tear down the lampshade and the nine year was caught with wine. The noise was phenomenal at points. i felt sorry for the deaf man.

I was very restrained and had the vegi chilli with small greek salad and more salad and didn't have the bread, jackets, houmous, butter, chocolate and carrot cake. I did dip a few crisps in the guacamole though.

Guadalupe · 27/03/2009 21:34

Pink - is he having a little growth spurt do you think? Have people told you to give him formula? These blips are great excuses to lie around eating cake and snuggling up to really get your milk going. I enjoyed those, in fact, I developed a lot of blips.

FrayedKnot · 27/03/2009 22:18

Yes, Pink, it is decreed, you must eat vast quantities of cake.

Party sounded good, Guad

SuperBunny · 27/03/2009 23:42

I never appreciated the NHS until I no longer had it. I am appalled at the healthcare system here.

Franny, I ordered some muesli for my dad for his birthday. I couldn't do it at first because it wouldn't accept that I am not in the UK so I emailed and they were very helpful and said to lie about my location and it'd be fine. I think my dad was rather bemused but said, "Thank you for my special cereal. I am finishing the old one and will start the new one next week" I'd have opened it immediately.

mollyroger · 28/03/2009 06:38

Been up since 4.30 due to totally blocked nose The birds were jolly loud and dh was snoring again. Sigh. And we have an extra child in the house so will be a busy morning.
My poor friend had to drag her other ds to A&E with suspected meningitis last night (hence us having her other ds).
It was truly terrifying but is 'just' a nasty virus apparently - with really similar symptoms to M, cold hands and feet, drowsy child, stiff neck, stomach cramps and high high temp!

I'm afraid I had a bit of a flashback to when ds1 had Meningitis and I couldn't stop crying last night.

I can't believe how cold it feels today.

Feel some baking coming on...

pinkspottywellies · 28/03/2009 08:38

Oh Molly must be horrible to have it brought back like that. Glad your friend's ds is ok though.

No-one's told me to use formula but my friend pointed out that if you don't know what bf can be like and you have people saying that your milk mustn't be good enough cause he's still hungry and that you should give him a bottle, it must be very easy to give in. But I don't think anyone would be daft enough to suggest it to me

DD was up as about 4.40 this morning then when she'd gone back to sleep it was time to get up for the Grand Prix qualifying. It was fantastic!! Brit on the front row

Don't think I'll try and list the jam on my toast as a portion - although it was homemade with apples from my garden and blackberries picked by my own fair hands! Better get some fruit.

littlerach · 28/03/2009 08:46

Molly. Glad he is okay htough.

Dh still hasn't opened his special muelsi that he gor for Valentines.
I keep nagging reminding him and he says he is saving it as it is so special.

Where's TooT/

Guadalupe · 28/03/2009 09:15

Molly - what a nightmare. I can't believe you are still ill. You need to convalesce.

Apple banana pomegranate passionfruit grape raspberry and blueberry fruit salad. Annoyingly I shared it out as I could eat it again.

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2009 09:55

oh Molly, i am sorry about all that
you do need a week in bed and a jolly good feed up probably
i know you are unlikely to get it

pink you are doing a great job
eat lots - and smoothies are my latest tip for bfing women
rice or soya milk, bananas, green food powder, hemp protein, and cocoa powder if you like it chocolatey
i have super fortified milk
well i am still upright and that is the main thing

i got dp a muesli voucher for CHRISTMAS - this was where all my muesli envy started - and he still hasn't used it! he really likes muesli as well, and is very finickety about it, so I did think it was the perfect present

mollyroger · 28/03/2009 09:56

Have just fortified myselfd with egg on toast (with chives and parsley) and a pot of Yorkshire Grey tea.

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2009 09:58

we have a children's party this morning and a meal out at tea time
and i don't have to stick to the ruddy salad this time so pizza here i come

oh we have done a week of the wizard's magic pellets
can't see the slightest difference in anything at all - his eczema had already improved wildly and his bottom is just unremittingly bad
she said to contact her after a week to report back
what do i say?
"well, kind of.....NOTHING"??

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2009 09:58

AND i am going bra shopping
woo ruddy hoo

FrannyandZooey · 28/03/2009 10:00

can you dye bras with dylon or will all the trimmings stay white? i can't find any decent coloured or black nursing bras but i don't want a wonderful purple with a white edge, either

perhaps i will buy one to get my size right, and then a posh pretty one online
they cost a bomb though those fancy ones don't they
and after about a year i started wearing underwire, with ds1 IIRC
