For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

phwoar am I the first
how very exciting

stuffitllama · 25/03/2009 08:50

have to say something really exciting now

Franny I'm with 100 -- say it. Say it with a smile if you have to, but say it. I feel that when our children play with others a lot then after an initial settling down period we can be quite clear about our rules and we can't fret about hurting other people with our boundaries.

Last night I had to virtually crowjack a child out of our house and it was all "will you get a move on" and so on and "don't get cross but you have to go NOW or you'll never come back" and all with a smile but you know this is the way it is and don't mess with me.

I think I would even say "I've got a funny feeling you did this, what about that". Also say a couple of times that he has to stop hanging around the drive, even if L wants to play, just to assert that he is not in charge of when L goes out or not.

Perhaps I've got the wrong end of the stick. Even if he is not getting what he needs at home, your primary concern is you and yours. Sound horrid don't I.

Am so nervous I can't eat. I have guests arriving next week and have to get so many things organised, plus the two big concerts tonight and at the weekend (that one is in a big old fort palace hotel thing and is right fancy).

So, nothing, except coffee and a banana.

Hate hormonal contraception. I think it buggers one up a bit. Condoms perfectly good except I wish dh would have the snip. He won't countenance it, silly sausage.

stuffitllama · 25/03/2009 08:51

mangolassi · 25/03/2009 08:53

Tatties · 25/03/2009 09:31

Morning! Sun shining here

Guadalupe · 25/03/2009 09:35

I would be firm with him. Eight is quite old enough to be told what's acceptable and what's not. I would say, please do not tell ds there is a bomb in there because he is five and it scares him and if you scare hm then you won't be allowed round to play, and that would be a shame wouldn't it.

I would also say that I had a feeling it was a local boy doing the damage and that I would be keeping a very close eye on things INDEED.

Don't stop ds playing out but definitely limit time on their own. I am a bit cold though. It would piss me off.

Boco - I don't think she sounds well enough. My earache seems to be a cold now. What a drag.

The Young Victoria was enjoyable, a bit naff n parts but very watchable and quite funny.

Tatties · 25/03/2009 09:43

I quite fancy seeing Yong Victoria. Now we actually live near some cinemas it might even be possible!

Tatties · 25/03/2009 09:44

Young

Guadalupe · 25/03/2009 09:45

It was visually pleasing and qute passionate.
And you could take your drink in with you which is always nice.

Tatties · 25/03/2009 09:49

I like visually pleasing (and passion )

Tatties · 25/03/2009 10:08

I wonder if anyone could give me some food ideas? Here's the problem: for our evening meal we usually eat rice/pasta with some kind of veggie/bean sauce/stew. Sometimes we have soup and sometimes omelette with potatoes and veg on the side. Ds seems to be increasingly disinterested in eating the rice + sauce type meal, he seems to prefer the 'omelette + two veg' type meals - so I want to do more of this kind of meal to give him a better chance of eating his dinner. But I am totally lacking in inspiration given that we don't eat meat (and only very occasionally fish) - I am just so used to doing the sauces and stews, which lend themselves so well to vegetarian cooking (and bulk cooking!), that I can't think how to adapt it. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful!

Guadalupe · 25/03/2009 10:34

Lots of children go through phases of wanting to graze on buffet type meals. I would let him. We often have hotdogs and corn on the cob with chopped veg, pasta dishes with salad, ommlettes, pizza, homemade fish goujons and wedges, chicken or tofu or prawn stir fries, wraps with chilli, yoghurt and salsa, tacos, jackets wth everything from the fridge, felafels with houmous and pittas and coleslaw.

This is all stuff they can help themselves to. We do have and stews and casseroles but not as often, though we have a lot of soup.

TigerFeet · 25/03/2009 10:40

Tatties do you eat quorn/tofu type affairs?

You can get ready done quorn fillets in sauce, they are quite nice if you like that sort of thing. Great with new potatoes and oodles of veg or salad. I used to eat a lot of them, but dh is virtually a carnivore and turns his nose up at meat replacements. What about quorn burgers/linda mccartney sausages etc etc? Or do you steer away from ready prepared stuff? I usually cook from scratch myself rather than eating pre-prepared meat dishes or pies etc so I understand if you're not interested in replacements for crappy meat products!

Had a MW appt this morning. I heard the heart beating but have a physio referral

TigerFeet · 25/03/2009 10:44

LOOK!!!

womblingalong · 25/03/2009 10:52

Bonjour Veggers,

Love the title, oh Franny I love it when you're all masterful and decisive (so long as it's a decision I agree with)

FWIW, I think you need to say something to the boy, all the mothers of older children have given you much better advice than I ever could, but I agree with them.

Dried pineapple, dates, raisins
Banana

Will have a think about menu's Tatties and come back in a bit (am at work)

TooTicky · 25/03/2009 12:03

Tatties, what about veggie sausage type things? The Redwood ones are pretty good ingredients wise, and the ...um......a German company...Taifun?...make gorgeous ones, including the utterly divine tofu wieners.

What about quiche/pie/pasty type things?

littlerach · 25/03/2009 12:28

I think SB has a recipe for bean burgers which sound v nice. In fact, she had a faulous list of all of the foods that she maeks, it is incredible.

Cool title.

raisins
celery
carrots
humous

FrannyandZooey · 25/03/2009 13:24

the advice on NB (neighbourhood boy) is all good
i will do something decisive
when i see him

right well about this special section thing
what do you think?
i am not sure
i mean we want to keep it cliquey low key really don't we?

and wouldn't it be, well, a bit funny, to have a 10/10 section with only 10/10 threads in
and what if an IMPOSTER started a thread in there? cod would have a field day for starters can you imagine
"Oi veg ponces new thraed here"

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/03/2009 13:32

I'm a newbie really, so my pov isn't as important as others .............. but I'll give it anyway

I would prefer for it to kept low key but for a selfish reason. To me it feels like a haven in here a bit, so I think it would be a bit of a shame to make it a bit more public. Public is a stupid word to use as MN is a public forum, but I hope yswim.

However, if we do have our own section I won't stop posting on here. It is good for my f&V FOCUS.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 25/03/2009 13:32

Yes, it would be a bit odd to have just one thread in its own section. I thought that.

Guadalupe · 25/03/2009 13:34
TooTicky · 25/03/2009 13:40

Guad, spit that sock out at once. I have to tell ds2 off for that.
Are you okay?

Guadalupe · 25/03/2009 13:49

Sorry, miss, it fell out already but I have stuffed it back in.

I am okay, yessss, but I have a pain in my lughole as you charmingly put it.

ahundredtimes · 25/03/2009 13:57

I don't see what difference it makes. It someone wanted to start a 10/10 thread under general health then they could, just as they could start it under 10/10.

I can't see what difference it makes, or even why it would mean it had more or less of a profile?

I have just eaten delicious noodles, with all kinds of things in.
