For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

mol, we now have an anthem, kind of like a school song but for veggers

10 a day is a target anyway. Not a prerequisite. Five a day is good enough really

pinkspottywellies · 08/03/2009 20:16

Go avi! Go and study and knit!

Tiger have you told your dd about the new baby yet? I have a couple of books I can send you, perhaps a bit nearer the time. It's Waiting for Baby and My New Baby which is shown underneath.

Oh and I can add the last few bits of chocolate coated dried mango to my list. Mmmmmmm

FrannyandZooey · 08/03/2009 20:17

lol molly

Pink, we had to tell dd because she was upset when I was really ill. A book would be fab, thanks . She asks loads of questions, all the bloody time, about everything so books are always good! She's 4.8 so old enough to grasp some of it but waiting until September is beyond her atm.

Avi is still here because we have tied her to the village hall's kitchen sink.

TigerFeet · 08/03/2009 20:25

Franny you could snack on carrot & celery sticks with houmous instead of eating fruit perhaps?

TonyAlmeida · 08/03/2009 20:25

why does ti matter about fruit.
I think i saw on some tv show( vague) about bad science and all this" fruit is good for oyu crap.
ds1 seems to manage fine without!

SuperBunny · 08/03/2009 20:25

Am rubbish at veg - I only get 10 by eating tons of fruit.

Tiger, September is a good month to have a baby

What to people do with brown bananas other than banana cake? I don't think I can eat any more of that. Smoothies? Anything else?

TigerFeet · 08/03/2009 20:33

Fruit has more sugar than veg - those of us of a more, erm, yeasty persuasion would do well to eat a higher proportion of veg to fruit.

I reckon my f&v consumtion is sooo poor because I've completely gone off fresh fruit. No yeast ishoos atm though thank fuck, I have enough problems without going growing fungus everywhere as well.

Glad to hear it SB I'm actually very pleased that it's a September baby (assuming all is well, it's not too early etc etc fret fret) as my July baby struggled starting school at just 4.

FrannyandZooey · 08/03/2009 20:37

"all this fruit is good for you crap"
shaddup tony you big fool

going growing?

(I was going to write going mouldy but decided against it )

pinkspottywellies · 08/03/2009 20:43

Franny peanut butter on celery is a good way of eating celery (and you can count the nuts in your 10)

Tiger send me your address on FB and I'll send the Waiting for Baby one. I'll hang onto the New Baby one for a bit though. Luckily dd never asked when ds was coming cause I think timescales would've been beyond her! She did used to ask if he could come out and play though - er not yet thanks!!

Let avi go! Go on avi - go and knit study

TooTicky · 08/03/2009 20:44

No no, Avi must stay!!

TigerFeet · 08/03/2009 20:48

Will do Pink, thank you

SuperBunny · 08/03/2009 20:57

It's pouring and I am going on a date. I have to walk 20 mins to the station then get 2 trains. I will look quite delightful when I get there

TigerFeet · 08/03/2009 21:04

You need one of those little old lady disposable clear hoods SB

Boco · 08/03/2009 21:11

Good luck with the date SB.

We went to a really nice party today, a child's party, but one where the parents just invite their own friends regardless of children, so they were all different ages but played really well and there was masses of really lovely food, so ate lots and didn't need dinner.

dd2 has been really well since last pneumonia in Jan - but she's struggling again today, wasn't too bad until this evening, needed to do multi-dosing with inhaler and she's coughing constantly and wheezing quite badly. Hate this, as I can't relax and expect it'll be an up a lot in the night thing. Hope she fights this one off and it doesn't turn into anything worse.

pinkspottywellies · 08/03/2009 21:15

Hope she's ok Boco. Maybe this long stretch without getting bad will have let her build up the strength to fight it off cause before it kept coming on top of the last bout didn't it?

LOL at old lady hood for SB

mollyroger · 08/03/2009 21:31

oh Boco, sorry FIngers crossed.

AVI - don't you dare disappear. All work and no play etc

OSBA - hope you're habing a good birthday

pink - why are you not asleep?

Leeks

Parsnip
Beans

Strawberries
Grape juice (no, really, unfermented)

SuperBunny · 08/03/2009 21:35

Party sounds lovely Boco. Hope DD feels better in the morning and doesn't have a distrubed night. for you.

Avi, my friend's DS had something similar and had a UTI. Can you get DS to a dr, just in case?
