For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Good luck Boco

Interesting essay, mou

I knew that about chickens. I had to cook some today for the children I was looking after. I did not enjoy it. OB, have you read Fast Food Nation? Tis a must if you are interested in where our food comes from and how the animals/ people involved in processing are treated. Truly awful, not just for the animals. Quite shocking actually. And 'Not on the Label' was a good'un too iirc. Not scientific really, although they do give references.

HP were meant to be sending me a replacement power cord because the one for my brand new computer stopped working. This was ten days ago. After a rather angry discussion on Thursday. the assured me it would be here by Monday. Absolutely. No problem. Definitely. Guess what? It's not fucking here. I am just a little bit miffed about it. Can you tell?

Hello Veggers,

My lovely DS has managed to break my laptop by throwing his watercup at it! I wanted to come on and tell you all about my lovely 10/10 meal yesterday, but DH hogged his laptop all night, so I couldn't

Had Yello Thai Veg Curry and race with peppers, mushrooms, mange tout, coriander, butternut sqaush, aubergines and asparagus and onion, yummy! Plus raisins and lots of satsumas and tomato soup for lunch, so my first 10 day in ages!

How are you all? Any sightings of Franny recently?

daisy99divine · 12/11/2008 10:37

Hi Wombling, lol at "race with peppers" is that posh rice

Sorry Toot, I closed up the laptop after my last post, wasn't meaning to abandon you, I know that empty yurt feeling very well, although it gives me room to twirl and leave little messages for others!

Mou, think your essay sounds great. I tried an Art History degree once, evening classes. Loved it, until the first essay when I dropped out

SB and Toot at chickens, I only eat organic and free range as my conscience salve, but it is yuck

Hard to type holding thumbs for Boco!

kiwi and banana

Hi, having quite a good day, feeling pretty chirpy, but still tired. Having a day off exercising . Well.... we shall see, I might get itchy feet later.

Starting Essay has done me so much good, there are so many talented people, past and present who suffer from depression. Not glad for them but it made me feel better.

Hi wombling, dunno if we have 'met' but hello anyway.

Finished my painting, had a massive surge of inspiration yesterday.

Juice so far, pear in a minute. Might do a nice tomato soup for tea.

Must work. I am banning myself from computer until 3.00 again. Nice day to all, cheers for now.

womblingalong · 12/11/2008 11:34

Absolutely Daisy, Posh Rice, Race is the only way to say it! (It was quite posh actually extra long grain basmati!) Very yum anyway, posh or not.

womblingalong · 12/11/2008 11:39

Am holding thumbs for Boco too, Good Luck. Hi Mou, I think we may have spoken once or twice. Glad to see that you are finding ways of being positive.

Happy Birthday Pink to DD, I can't beleive your little dot is two already, when is No 2 due, please remind me when the blue one is arriving. I had a girl first, followed by a boy, and I can highly recommend it.

daisy99divine · 12/11/2008 12:20

Hi wombling, glad you basmati is up to the mark
good for you Mou keep it up

Remember "mirror signal manouvre" to Boco!!!

TooTicky · 12/11/2008 12:23

Hello Wombling How are you?

TooTicky · 12/11/2008 12:24

S'okay Daisy,, I forgive you for TOTALLY ABANDONING ME

mou · 12/11/2008 12:29

I'm not here, I am working really, really hard!!

I only tried to drive once and was really focussed on listening to the person 'teaching' me. I saw a wobbly cyclist and said 'what shall I do?', the person said 'it's OK, just aim for them they will get out of the way'. So I did... ROFL. Didn't hit him but came close. I was concentrating so hard it didn't register that it was a joke!!

pinkspottywellies · 12/11/2008 13:24

mou!

OsmosisBOOnana · 12/11/2008 13:45

yes, have read fast food nation.

Unfortunately I don't need to know about chicken welfare, I have done that bit of of the essay, there is plenty of info on battery caged birds.

However, I need to say why choosing other eggs would be beneficial to the consumer.

Shall I tell you my insanely dull title? I had to come up with it myself and although it is very dull, it is very carefully worded to make sure I don't end up waffling. You won't see it's finesse, but I'm telling you... It's there.

Ready?

Right.

Discuss the differences in laying hen farming systems and what the impact on the consumer will be of passing legislation banning the use of battery cages. [yawn]

The main implication is cost obv, what else?

TooTicky · 12/11/2008 13:49

They will unwittingly become more ethical and probably healthier toio. Or they may dismiss eggs as too expensive and live on slurried sludge instead.

pinkspottywellies · 12/11/2008 13:51

BOCO PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mou · 12/11/2008 13:55

I'm still not here...

Gosh Osba...you one clever woman.

TooTicky · 12/11/2008 14:09

Hello Mou

WOOOOOHOOOOOO for Boco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pink, how's the clean up going?

womblingalong · 12/11/2008 14:30

Hello TooT!

Pink, I went over, by 11 days and it wasn't as bad as ai thought it would be, the worst bit was everyone asking me if I had gone in to labour yet!

womblingalong · 12/11/2008 14:31

TooT,

What size clothes and shoes is DD" now, I have finally had a great big sort out, and have a few things that could be suitable?

pinkspottywellies · 12/11/2008 14:54

I am horrified at the colour that came out of the car seat covers. I'm hoping it was dye rather than a years worth of accumulated grime. There was quite a lot of sand/grit in there too

Stick at it OsBa

mou · 12/11/2008 15:00

Hi Toot..

Finished work, for now. Resisted going for a run and have had four chocolate bicuits instead .

DD is 6 in a few weeks and I have found the most gorgeous china dolls in a 2nd hand shop for £2.50 each! Will give her two for her birthday (as they are dressed) and make a fabulous outfit for the third one for christmas.

We live on a route that is used for transporting battery chickens and it is horrendous.

Can feel a bubble of enthusiasm for life pushing its way back to the surface, so buckle your seatbelts in the yurt!

womblingalong · 12/11/2008 15:01

Pink, Can I interest you in any of my boy clothes etc? - DS was born at the beginning of April, so the seasons should match.

No worries if not.

pinkspottywellies · 12/11/2008 16:27

Thanks Wombling but my friend has given me absolutely piles of her stuff and I have another friend who probably will soon too. No doubt we'll also get tons of presents too. (Oh god I really don't want to post that cause I'd love stuff!! But really don't need it so shouldn't!!!)

daisy99divine · 12/11/2008 16:46

OOOOO Boco!

that is fantastic news, and LOL at Mou at the wheel

TooT sorry to abandon you!! tra la la! Won't be here tonight 'cos going out with friend

Wombling, sorry re spectacular vom. My DS has done it twice, Sat and last night, I think because of new meds to help him poo. I have stopped them now I don't like idea of "forcing" his system and need to find a proper homoepath, ideas how to look?

Osba, blimey, that is all I can say

I wanted to go for a swim today. Got totally STUCK at work. Now too late. GRUMP. Had two flapjacks instead to make me feel better, which of course they haven't....

but fencing tonight!!!

daisy99divine · 12/11/2008 16:48

oh, rats, sorry it was Pink with sick!

BTW Toot how is DS tooth?

stuffitllama · 12/11/2008 17:49

Hi.. have been lurking.. am not doing the veg thing at all so definitely not a tenner, and everything is a bit weird. But I saw that Boco did her wonderful thing and wanted to say congrats.

Life is rather difficult to say the least. There've been many upsets and much unhappiness and I should be better at not feeling sorry for myself or letting it dominate but I haven't been able too. So it would have been three months of angst and boring you all! not nice at all.

Anyway Toot how is ds's eye?
Osba that is gripping. I imagine you writing sexy books not an economic analysis of chicken fecundity.
Hello pink and womble and fmf and to all.

I can't imagine doing the veg thing again. I'm not cooking, someone else is. We have all this marvellous stuff planted and growing but I don't do it, the gardeners do. It's like living in Vanilla Sky where nothing is quite as it seems. God it's all so weird. Sorry I sound like I'm going nuts.

Anyway congrats Boco, what a relief. Your life is going to be SO different!
