For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Dd2 is 2 - will be 3 on 1st July. They vary so much though, don't they?

Very at vegan bakery!!!!

Ah yes, mice. Or mouse. Nibbled potatoes. Hmm.

IdrisTheDragon · 17/05/2008 18:37

UR, DD can recognise one letter I think. It is A, as it is the first letter of her name. She is very keen on the idea of letters though, as DS is currently in the first stages of reading.

Can I boast about DS? He learned how to ride his bike with no stablisers last weekend and on Wednesday was pedalling along at a great pace . He's not quite up to riding it unless in a vast expanse of grass, but is very proud of himself .

As I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 9, I find this 4 year old bike riding extra exciting .

IdrisTheDragon · 17/05/2008 18:38

I know a girl one day older than your DD2 TooT. And your DD2 was born on my DH's 30th birthday.

This is the proper thread isn't it? I should be saying about fruit and vegetables. Not sure what today has to contribute...

FrannyandZooey · 17/05/2008 18:39

oh wow Idris
I would love ds to learn to ride his bike

I have another one who doesn't know his letters

Ooh Idris, my ds1 learned to ride his bike last weekend and he is just 9

I think people just do take to bikes at different ages. Ds1 had very little interest in bikes for years, then suddenly wanted one. It's a good independence thing at his age.

TooTicky · 17/05/2008 18:58

And they learn their letters when they want to, which is quite right.
Dd1 was an absolute nightmare with starting to read but suddenly took off and was reading Harry Potter when she was 6.

UnderRated · 17/05/2008 19:29

Great news new bike riders. It is such a tricky thing.

DS sometimes knows 'D' but always says, 'D for me' (his name begins with a D) I don't think he understands the link between the letter and the sound. No pressure though - I know he'll get it one day. He's still quite little. The parents sound here are v competitive though so often ask/ show off their amazing reading & writing 2 yr olds.

UnderRated · 17/05/2008 19:33

Oh, apple, banana, goats cheese & basil criossant (from the farmer's market)

My garden is looking good now. I have tomatoes (3 types), Peppers (3 types), bean bush, strawberries and leeks. Plus some peas, lettuce and spinach that are just sprouting. I'm hoping digging counts because I'm feeling too lazy to go for a run today. I did week 4 last night and almost cried.

IdrisTheDragon · 17/05/2008 19:42

I am eating sunflower seeds. Do they count? I still can't remember.

TooTicky · 17/05/2008 19:44

Oh dear UR, making the children show their skills on demand is not good

Idris, sorry, seeds don't count.

IdrisTheDragon · 17/05/2008 19:46

But they are better than eating Parma violets aren't they [hopeful ]?

pinkspottywellies · 17/05/2008 20:06

Haven't eaten much at all today oh god no I've just remembered I went to McDonalds for work!!!!

But I had raisins, seeds and nuts in my museli (added in extra) lettuce in my chicken wraps (and mozarella melts) toast for lunch (brown with seeds) and then bulgar wheat and salad with tuna for dinner. 8 varieties. Not bad. Will eat fruit tonight.

Race for Life tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FrannyandZooey · 17/05/2008 20:08
