Had a nasty reaction to deep heat, not sure if I need to go to a&e or GP’s

It’s basically burnt my fingers, I was putting it on DH’s back for him and it suddenly felt like my fingers were burning. I don’t know if it’s an allergic reaction or a burn. DH is fine. I’ve never used it before.

I react like this to it, just wash it off well with soap, cool water if needed

Singleandproud · 19/11/2024 14:14

Have you taken an antihistamine?
Deep heat does burn or feel hot as it has capsaicin in it.

MamaAndTheSofa · 19/11/2024 14:15

I'd wash it off and think nothing more about it, to be honest. But if you're worried, speak to a pharmacist.

ByHardyRubyEagle · 19/11/2024 14:17

If it’s a mild skin reaction then I don’t think you need to do either - certainly not a&e, you’d be majorly wasting peoples time. Sorry. Just keep an eye on the skin and maybe apply some burn gel, or something soothing.

StormingNorman · 19/11/2024 14:18

Wash your hands and take a couple of antihistamines. You’re not burnt, you’re just having a reaction to something in the cream. Like when you rub your face with chilli hands.

Yourinmyspot · 19/11/2024 14:23

It’s got worse now and has taken the skin off my fingers I think I need to see someone.

That needs proper attention, I’d go to A&E and get them dressed.

MamaAndTheSofa · 19/11/2024 14:25

Ok, that does look more than just irritated. I'd start with a pharmacist, they should be able to see you quickly and advise whether you need A&E, or give you something for it.

buffyspikefaithangel · 19/11/2024 14:26

Ok yeah that's a pharmacy trip! Or doctors

Alibababandthe40sheets · 19/11/2024 14:26

Yes you need to be seen that is definitely a significant allergy

Msmoonpie · 19/11/2024 14:26

Gosh I would go to minor injuries or possible an and e with that.

At the very least same day GP appt.

Strawberrydrill · 19/11/2024 14:27

A and E right now that is a major burn in the meanwhile wrap in cool peas in a tea towel (not direct) and straight to A and E.

That is serious and not just an allergic reaction.

Strawberrydrill · 19/11/2024 14:27

If you have a minor injuries unit near you that might be quicker than A and E for treatment

Okayornot · 19/11/2024 14:28

That's an A&E job I think. Burns on hands need proper attention.

Sillysausage76 · 19/11/2024 14:28

Do you have a local minors unit? If not call your surgery and see if a doctor or nurse can see you, if not you need a&e. Remember if dh is laying in bed with no top on the cream might go on the sheets, be very careful

DecayingRelic · 19/11/2024 14:29

bloody hell, what was in the Deep Heat??😬

PragmaticIsh · 19/11/2024 14:29

Okay that's actually quite bad and a large area, looks like a chemical burn. Definitely needs A&E to prevent infection.

MabelMaybe · 19/11/2024 14:30

Agreed with those saying A&E. Wrap your hand in cling film and raise it up to your shoulder. Take the deep heat with you so the doctors can see the ingredients

Singleandproud · 19/11/2024 14:30

Get your hand under a tap for 10 minutes, if it's corrosive it'll still be burning the skin, Deep Heat is definitely not meant to do that, it could be an allergy or contaminated product.

Do not put any other lotions or potions on it and then minor injuries / GP / A&E whatever you have access to. Take the deep heat and packaging with you, was it in date? A proper brand or a cheaper version?

Roystonv · 19/11/2024 14:32

Wishing you well.

Edited

Assume it’s not contaminated if the DP is still fine ?

My thoughts exactly 😯

Alibababandthe40sheets · 19/11/2024 14:36

Is your husband ok? If so it is definitely an allergy in you and not a potential problem with the product. It is a great idea to let them know the product but if I were you I wouldn’t touch it yourself they can still look up ingredients online and check what you are allergic to but as others said capsicum could easily be the culprit.

Singleandproud · 19/11/2024 14:36

@Msmoonpie different people different reactions, skin on the hands perhaps more sensitive to skin on the back. Could react to other moisturiser already on OPs hands etc.

Yourinmyspot · 19/11/2024 14:38

DH is still fine, I’m currently running it under cold water, I phoned the GP’s and they have said they will see me, got an appointment in a couple of hours. Stings like a ***
