Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

Well it's Covid isn't it? Ear problems have always been common with it. I've had tinnitus for two years since an especially bad bout of it.

@piscofrisco

I'm the same.

Do you know if the tinnitus goes away? I have a bad bout of COVID in May 2023 and I still have ear problems.

Orangeandgold · 27/10/2024 01:47

We had the same last week!

My DD had a sore throat which then turned into a fever. She was Ok after 2 days. Passed it onto me and my symptoms were sore throat, feeling light headed, loose stools, felt weak. I was so sure it was covid at one point - it probably was.

Our symptoms were so different but it all started with a sore throat.

Goatblu · 27/10/2024 06:43

I feel worse. I've had a terrible night's sleep as every time I tried to swallow, the pain woke me up. My ear and head is throbbing too. I've tried paracetamol. Didn't help. I feel a bit pathetic feeling so poorly with just a virus but it's just not easing up.

Giraff3 · 27/10/2024 20:04

I started with a sore throat yesturday, but its got worse today. I keep feeling like i need to be sick and indigestion feeling. Been in bed since 7pm.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 27/10/2024 22:57

I’ve had some kind of hideous virus hanging around for almost the whole of October. I’ve done numerous Covid tests and even a flu test, all negative. No gastro symptoms.

Version 1 was just the sniffles for a couple of days. Then about 4 days later awful sore throat that came on quickly, really bad congestion. That cleared up for a few days then it all started again even worse and for longer. Ended up with full blown sinus infection and an eye infection at the same time and a cough. Still not right. It’s been really miserable.

Kaymumof4 · 27/10/2024 23:32

Me and my partner both had some horrible virus, started with a sore throat then horrible runny nose and a cough headache and eye pain , ended up on antibiotics for a chest infection, lot better then I was but still not 100 percent. I did do Covid tests over 4 days all was neg

I'm on week 6 of this :(

When I had the OPs exact symptoms it was Covid.

Take a new Covid test. I had the exact thing and took an old one- negative, and then took a new one: got an immediate positive. My gp suggested. It’s been awful this variant- took me a bit to recover. Feel better soon

ooooohnoooooo · 28/10/2024 08:16

Sympathies to all of you suffering. I'm clinically vulnerable and have had flu and Covid jabs so hoping they will do their thing to help avoid this nasty sounding thing.

I'm wearing a mask on public transport and back to hand gel all the time now. I'm not mad paranoid but was ill for months with Covid 1st time, a year second time and have a good friend now medically retired with long Covid so it's a real worry.

Stay home please Ill people (and if you are vomiting I expect that's the only option 🤢). Sending healing vibes to you all.

@stayathomer I hope your boy is feeling better , that sounds brutal.

Goatblu · 28/10/2024 08:32

I've filled in an ask my GP form so waiting for a call back or something. I feel even worse today. I have asthma so I'm worried that I've now got a chest infection.

Getagoodfeeling · 28/10/2024 13:47

Well I started to feel a bit better over the weekend but today I’m coughing, I feel like I have a low grade fever again and my back feels heavy and sore, like my lungs are affected (I’ve had this with pleurisy before). Praying it doesn’t develop into anything.

OP posts:
Goatblu · 28/10/2024 16:24

I've was like that @Getagoodfeeling, felt a bit better on Saturday then worse than ever yesterday and this morning. I do have a preexisting lung condition too so I filled in an ask my GP consultation this morning. I ended up going in for face 2 face appt and now have abx and steroids to hopefully halt the chest infection.

If you're in any doubt, contact your GP - especially if you've experienced breathing problems before.

I did another COVID test before my appointment (as requested) and that was negative too.

Oh goodness, I think I’m heading the same way. I still have sinus congestion which takes me by surprise. It’s awful, I tip my head forward and all of a sudden my nose starts dripping. It’s really getting me down. I’ve never had an infection like this that a so slow to resolve.

Sympathies to everyone.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 28/10/2024 17:06

Has anyone found anything to help relieve their symptoms? I’ve had antibiotics and tbh I’m not sure if they did much.

Things that have helped me - antihistamines, NightNurse when it was really bad, Sudafed decongestant tablets (the ones from the pharmacy with pseudoephidrine hydrochloride).

tobee · 28/10/2024 17:22

Feeling a bit more normal over the weekend until symptoms turned to appalling diarrhoea.

Sad

But first time in ages I've had tea and it tasted normal. Coffee still seems dangerously exotic as a concept though

@tobee

😂For at least this week I will be requesting "dangerously exotic coffee" !

Hope you continue to feel better.

Thanks for cheering me up.

Giraff3 · 28/10/2024 18:54

i woke up today with a voice that doesnt sound like mine.
DP had to go and get me some gaviscon from the shops as i was in so much pain, i think due to acid reflux from coughing and being vomit sick.
This afternoon my nose wont stop tingling like i want to sneeze and i can hardly breath through it. So i imagine it will be fully blocked by tomorrow.

shewolfmum · 28/10/2024 22:54

Oh noooo it's really horrid isn't it. Soo....I tried loads as had it for soooo long. Things that helped were herbs for lungs..mullein and plantain. I mixed them and made them into a tea. A netti pot twice a day in the peak, I just do three times a week now. Nasya oil for my nose. Bit weird but is amazing at cleaning sinuses. Self massage with medicated oil. Steaming over a bowl of water. Really hope it passes for you all. I felt so unwell it was quite scary at times.

LifesABeachx · 28/10/2024 23:01

I have caught this off my DD, who had tonsillitis and then a week later the symptoms everyone are saying here. She still isn't back to herself.

I have a lot of congestion mainly and don't feel 100%. Tonight my left ear has completely popped and all I can hear is whooshing / my heartbeat in it. Has anyone else had this?
And do you think I should contact the GP or wait it out?

purplebeansprouts · 29/10/2024 05:20

I've been up coughing for 3 hours solid now

Just1234 · 29/10/2024 06:47

So glad I found this thread. Started with what I thought was a cold 1.5 weeks ago but it fully wiped me out and it was soon joined by stomach issues . I thought at the weekend I was finally on the way up and then sinus pain started and the right side of my face was all sore and the swimming head came back .

Today I feel brighter but so desperate to getting back to normal life again

Ls005 · 29/10/2024 07:50

@PortiaWithNoBreaks like you I had antibiotics and not sure what they did (except give me a rash, an upset tummy and made me feel so sick!). I think they did help cure whatever was causing the temperature as that subsided 48 hours after I started them. I found good old plain paracetamol the best for me - 50p a pack basic stuff. It broke the fever and relaxed me quickly to help me sleep and rest. My husband said I looked slightly improved after taking them too (by that he meant vaguely coherent and sitting up in bed!)!
