Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

I've got Flu A and it's rough. Covid last Christmas. What are the chances. On loads of antibiotics and steroids now as I have infections.

razorcloud · 22/12/2024 09:25

I want to cry again today, was feeling better and went out for coffee yesterday morning and now suffering with racing heart and dizziness since yesterday afternoon. Even woke up in the middle of the night and it started. I'm hopeless and feeling like I've ruined everyone's Christmas already, over 4 weeks of this and I can't even cook dinner!

Delatron · 22/12/2024 10:53

I’m sorry everyone is still suffering and have new infections.

I was pondering today that this virus (whatever it is) just lasts for 6 weeks and that’s that. There’s nothing you can do to shift it quicker. Which feels awful when you’ve already had it for a month. I don’t think overdoing it helps. But it’s a bit of a slow burner.

Talkabtit101 · 22/12/2024 10:57

Us!

I have all the same symptoms DD and DH has had, aside from fever. They've had a 38.5 - 39.5 fever.

I however avoided the fever and upon googling I'm now worried as it says lack of fever means longer illness and more complications.

They've had the coldness / hotness / shivering / no appetite / sleeping all day / high heart rate.

I've had the diarrhoea at the very beginning before family showed issues, and a late and v v unusually painful and heavy period this month.

Diarrhoea for me started Wednesday Monday and then DD fever Thursday night and DH started yesterday morning.

Don't know if it's flu or not.
I hope everyone gets better for Wednesday.

Plus also if you do have this please try and stay at home, we're a young family and I'd read to think how this could affect the elderly/immunocompromised.

I know this time of year it isn't always possible, best wishes.

razorcloud · 22/12/2024 11:14

@Delatron I hope so much you are right about it lasting 6 weeks. I'm petrified of it becoming chronic post viral fatigue, POTs or something similar. I have never ever had anything like this before even covid few years ago was like a walk in the park in comparison.

VaddaABeetch · 22/12/2024 11:18

I’m on week 4. Im definitely not as bad as I was

My poor sister is in hospital with pneumonia from this

please keep an eye on this as racing (even laying down) could be sepsis x

I have been up all night with sweats, sick and ghastly diarrhoea. Have a banging head too. On the sofa and not moving. I was perfectly fine yesterday !

I’m know how you feel. I was utterly terrified too - I was definitely thinking I had long Covid. No issues when I had Covid last time, I was just a bit tired for a week

I can’t work out if I had post viral fatigue for a few weeks or if it was a virus that lasted 6 weeks.

I’m crossing my fingers for you!

If it has come on quickly it may be flu?

My virus (think Covid) came on quite slowly- think my body attempted to fight it for a week or so!

Feel better soon!

I am not sure what I am asking, but I found this post and it's so reassuring seeing I am not alone there!
I am massively panicking as I am on day 15 of the longest and most horrible illness of my life. I had a fever at nearly 40 for a week, followed by exhaustion, palpitations, horrible taste in my mouth, headache, mild temperature and cough. On day 10 I have been given antibiotics for a chest infection and to keep taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. I have almost finished my course of antibiotics and I still have a temperature in the afternoon and I struggle to perform any simple tasks.
I am a fit person, sporty, with no conditions otherwise!!!!!!

When will I see the light at the end of this tunnel??? I am due to fly on holiday on three days and debating what to do, whether to cancel and lose thousands (it is a big holiday, planned years in advance with friends and family) or to go, do what I can and recover in the sun....

Anyone has seen improvements in 15/18 days? Please share your miracles!

Cloxs · 23/12/2024 08:13

dd has a fever now - I feel rough. such is life with a toddler. Am somewhat relieved she got poorly (sounds awful) cause it means it’s a different virus circulating in the house.

Covid / Flu / RSV. Take your pick! It’s lasting a long time. Kinda pleased I’m not the only miserable one. I’m putting it down to stress and having a lot of viruses from dd for whatever reason. I was definitely getting better for a week and was able to walk 5-6 km and be functional. But then caught covid or whatever this is.

so can confirm - yes awful flu virus around also covid and colds around so maybe piggy backing off each other.

tis the season to be jolly 😎

Cloxs · 23/12/2024 08:14

Or rather *tis the season to be germy

Cloxs · 23/12/2024 08:17

@Criteria16 I would say go! The new environment may help you and the worst case scenario is you’re laying down elsewhere. Maybe just mask up for others and you cause airports are poorly ventilated. Hope it’s sunny!! Mindset is so important with the immune system (see Bruce Lipton) and no I’m not woo woo - it’s neuroscience.

I can’t help with timeline. Been sick since Sept - but no clue if it’s one or just multiple back to backs

Cloxs · 23/12/2024 08:19

@Lisad1975 I had this about 8 weeks ago. It was almost definitely flu ! Peaked early this year

Thegrassroots26 · 23/12/2024 09:37

Still don’t feel myself at all, but doing better than I was. Sudafed is helping.. maybe should’ve tried that earlier for my sinuses….

I hope everyone in ‘sick bay’ manages to have as good a time as one can have when infected or convalescing. ❤️ 💐 🍇 There’s always next year…

Talkabtit101 · 23/12/2024 10:19

Just had a big cry feeling very overwhelmed, tried to do the last chores before Xmas and I can't move for more than a few mins without my heart racing and pounding in my chest.

DD is still fatigued and DH is in work with a raging fever and terrible cough (WFH)

Feeling completely and utterly alone and and just had the phone call with DGM to tell her we can't host her for Christmas so she doesn't get this horrible illness, feeling very sorry for myself at the minute. And just had the bad news that DH can't come with me to my heart scan in the new year even though I'd rearranged it and missed getting it done this year so he could be there. 😞

Choconuttolata · 23/12/2024 10:27

@Talkabtit101 only do the essentials, it doesn't matter it is just one day. I have POTS post-Covid (Present from Christmas 2020) a lot of the measures for managing that might help you with the racing heart feeling, link below. If it gets worse get checked out. I had an ECG and holter ECG to check my heart out after Covid.

Also to anyone still mending I am now better going into week 4 because I rested fully in week 1-2.

This influenza hits hard, DD1 and DD2 both developed chest infections secondary to the virus and my elderly DF is in hospital due to dehydration and complications from it. Rest, rest, rest in the early days. Keep hydrated, sips of rehydration solution if you can't manage food or much fluid.

razorcloud · 23/12/2024 16:01

@Talkabtit101 I’m so sorry you are feeling like this, I’m exactly the same so at least you are not alone. I’m crying most days, feel a bit better at times and then have a crash. I managed to book GP appointment tonight so will have someone else to cry on and maybe get some advice on what to do. I wouldn’t count on your heart scan to show anything either, I had a full lot of tests privately and I’m none the wiser. Even my cardiologist cancelled this week’s appointment as he is down with flu.

Talkabtit101 · 23/12/2024 16:33

@razorcloud

Thank you for your kind words, I also suffer with health anxiety, and I've just had an episode of 130BPM just by sitting up, escalated into a panic attack, shaking and left arm/leg/hand going numb. And I've been to GP about this for years and only just been able to get the heart scan. Every other check has came back clear apart from PACs on the holter, which I feel I'm getting more frequently.

Also i am 24 years old, which is why it's been so hard for GP to refer.

razorcloud · 23/12/2024 17:01

@Talkabtit101 gosh that sounds scary. I’ve just came back from my GP and he actually told me that although the heart palpitations are scary I also wind myself up by watching and tracking them on my watch. He gave me low
dose of beta blockers and I need to rest more. He also said few weeks recovery with this is quite normal and only worry if the symptoms persist for >3 months. I think a quiet and restful
Christmas is what we need.

razorcloud · 01/01/2025 10:50

Happy New Year everyone!

Just checking how is everyone feeling.

I had few good and few bad days but my energy levels are up and just the racing heart and problems on exertion remain. Hopefully another few weeks and I can shift those too. Trying to be positive in the new year.

Delatron · 01/01/2025 11:36

Happy New Year all. I hope there’s been some improvement in symptoms for everyone.

I find it very tricky to ascertain whether I’m 100%. I went straight from this illness to feeling better then in to the Christmas madness. So I can’t work out whether I’m exhausted from that or lingering fatigue from the virus.

Trying to get back in to my running. I feel ok when I run but definitely overly tired the next day for what I’ve done. Worried it’s post exertion malaise but a very mild form. I know the sensible thing is not to run but I’ve taken so much time off and I love it!

Hoping to see some improvement in Jan and get back to my normal self. Weirdly my DH and DS have been very ill with a cough and sore throat but I haven’t picked it up (touch wood). Was sure my immune system was shot to pieces!

Delatron · 01/01/2025 11:36

@razorcloud I’m pleased you’ve seen some improvement with your energy levels.
