Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

Woke up shivery again today and horrendous diarrhoea Sad and feeling sick
Going back to bed when I finish work
I just want to eat something!

shewolfmum · 24/10/2024 15:22

Well.. with the gastro symptoms and shiveryness I would use homeopathic arsen alb 30. Even if you don't believe in homeopathy it costs about £3 from health shop and can do wonders for those symptoms buffy hope you feel better soon.

Cloud44 · 24/10/2024 20:10

Do you have a link @shewolfmum ?

Had this about a month ago. Sore throat, then splitting headache, fatigue, feeling weak & feeble. No gastric symptoms thank goodness. I went to bed for two days and I haven’t done that in a decade. Tested negative for Covid on day 2, test about 6 months old, didn’t test again after that but stayed home and cancelled everything for a week. Thought it was maybe flu. It’s taken me at least three weeks to feel normal strength again.

Iwant2move · 24/10/2024 21:14

I had this. Tested negative twice on covid tests. Tested again six days in and had a very strong positive.
I’m testing negative again but still have nausea, neck pain, fatigue and painful joints.

MandyMouse23 · 24/10/2024 22:22

Sore throat and headache still here, plus coughing and general exhaustion. 3 weeks in and another negative covid test. I was convinced it would be positive this time.

buffyfaithspike · 24/10/2024 22:34

Still Covid negative
Slept from 2pm -7pm, tried some toast and immediately stomach cramps and had to run to the bathroom
2 more days of work to go Sad

I'd say it was covid unless you test neg for 5 days consecutive with PCR, not LFT. LFT are not picking up many of the variants currently circulating.
I'd also consider RSV co-infection with covid. High RSV level right now.

Goatblu · 24/10/2024 22:46

I've tested -ve today too.

veryfluffy · 24/10/2024 22:47

I had this a month or so ago. It lasted for two weeks, and I was really ill for over a week. I took 4 new Covid tests during that time - all negative. The stomach issues meant it was likely to be either Covid or flu, so I’m guessing it was flu.

Is there a way to get PCR tests now, or is it all LFTs? I think you are right, it could possibly be that and just not getting picked up on the tests - the symptoms I'm having are text book for the new variant.

Brand new out the box test
It felt like flu at first and now feels like a stomach bug

Tested positive for Covid this morning despite having symptoms for days as other have described.

My positive test was when I read that nasal swaps aren't picking it up as effectively. So mine was a throat swab which I hate as I gag. Sure enough a bright positive.

I think this variant might be more in the throat than the nose

buffyfaithspike · 24/10/2024 22:56

Yeah I've always swabbed my throat too
I'm pretty sure it's a gastroenteritis type thing for me but it's vile!

TragicMuse · 24/10/2024 23:06

I'm in my third week of whatever it is.

Sudden scratchy throat, following morning I was SO ill. Spent 4 days in bed, 2 of them hallucinating and barely able to move.

3 weeks and I'm still coughing, wheezing and have a runny nose. I've got a foul taste in my mouth too.

I'm totally fed up.

Angrymum22 · 24/10/2024 23:08

Had it 3 weeks ago. Tested on the first day of symptoms because the rest of the house had been suffering for 4 days. Had a big fat Covid positive. Lasted about 10 days. Worst case of Covid I’ve had and I’ve had it every year so far. Previous infections have been very mild.
This time I was very achy, diarrhoea, fuzzy head, cough and mild snotty nose. Lost sense of smell for a few days and other weird symptoms I’ve had with Covid previously, the main one is popping ear.
I’ve also had a couple of ocular migraines, no headache but weird rainbow zigzag ribbons moving across eye. Both triggered by flashing light ( flickering fluorescent light).

I suspect that you need to test early on to get a positive result. The last couple of strains have only given positives during the first day or so.

tobee · 24/10/2024 23:23

3/4 of us have got this right now. Tremendous fatigue, hacking cough - should have amazing abs by now with all the muscular exercise my coughs are putting me through.

Extra symptoms that are unusual vivid dreams, tap water, tea and coffee test blerk. Had no appetite for days but now I can only consider carbs and comfort foods like bread and butter and cottage pie and unadorned steamed vegetables

First time out this afternoon since Saturday as I had a craving for comfort food stodge.

Sleeping in bursts and waking odd times.

Dd and dh have thrown up but I've only had nausea and diarrhoea. Lovely

Edizzler25 · 25/10/2024 00:15

I’ve just caught hand foot and mouth from my baby. Felt horrendous, looked and felt like severe tonsillitis but I had ulcers on the back of my throat too and a few little blisters / spots here and there but nothing obvious.

As far as I'm aware, PCR tests are not available outside a hospital setting if you're in UK looking for NHS care. Ask your GP, there may be referral route in your area.

PCR test equipment can now easily be purchased. I know a few boarding schools who did so early on and increasing numbers of my friends have done likewise.

Ohwtfnow · 25/10/2024 09:01

Flu and RSV levels are still very low. Flu is rising ever so slightly but not enough to be this virus as it wouldn’t be this rife in the population at the current levels. RSV is having a sharper rise but still low at the moment. Covid and colds are still high so it is much more likely to be one or the other of those

Goatblu · 25/10/2024 10:40

The nausea and sweating is back today and the sore throat has spread to my ear too. Feel bloody rotten for just a cold.

buffyfaithspike · 25/10/2024 10:50

Nausea and sweating here and diarrhoea every 30 mins

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/10/2024 10:51

Yes, 3 households of our family have all had it.

CurlewKate · 25/10/2024 10:55

The current strain of covid looks exactly like that. Have you tested?

Goatblu · 25/10/2024 11:13

I tested last night @CurlewKate. Negative.

shewolfmum · 23/10/2024 22:36

Seems common to affect the ears too, we have both been deaf in one early for 6 weeks... clearing slowly. Bloody awful just like the first time.

This is really reassuring to read as I am deaf in one ear now following similar symptoms. I feel better but can't hear.
