Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

So glad I found this thread, last Monday felt like I had a cold and by Tuesday morning I was off work, in bed (haven’t had a sick day in like 8 years, I normally can power on through). I had aches, headache, raging temperature, sickness, sore throat, loss of appetite cough, coughing up green phlegm etc, the works. Felt like flu when I’ve had it before. I ended up having 4 days off work, 5 days in bed and then the diahorrea started. I first felt unwell Monday and was given antibiotics on Tuesday via a phone appointment as a precaution and as I didn’t feel well enough to go in, then didn’t test positive for covid until the Thursday and that was with brand new tests.

its just over a week and I feel ok, much better than I did (am back at work this week and able to do a lot more) but still not 100% . My temperature is 0.5 - 0.8 above what is normal for me, though apparently not clinically indicated as a fever (it’s anywhere between 37.3 and 37.8). And the tummy symptoms and diahorrea remain. I spoke to the GP yesterday after relentless diahorrea for 4 days, who suggested the infection had “travelled” from my lungs to my stomach (I had to stop myself laughing tbh as I got visions of this little army of bugs making their way downtown!).

I eat a little of what I fancy - last week all I could stomach was little bits of breadsticks, a few mouthfuls of white rice and a few very dry oven chips. Purely to take my antibiotic with. This week I’m trying to eat a bit more to help me get some strength but the tummy symptoms are wearing.

Can I join please. Tested positive for Covid on 23/10, felt unwell since 20/10. No pyrexia just headache dry cough and utter utter exhaustion. I have never felt so tired in my life. I am off work, trying to do a little bit more at home, but still really struggling. Prior to this I had a nasty bout of diverticulitis for a week. I have palpitations when I walk upstairs. Now testing negative but honestly not feeling much better. Has anyone else felt like this? How long till you felt better?

When I last had covid (I couple of years ago) I had palpitations for months afterwards. Kept going to the doctor about it. Had a couple of ECGs with no explanation for it. Eventually they went away, but it did take about 4-6 months if I remember correctly.

Peppermintpattern · 29/10/2024 14:29

I had this a few weeks ago as did my whole family, tested negative for covid so just a seasonal virus. Took a while to shake off the last of it though.

Megaaan23 · 30/10/2024 06:42

I had diarrhoea 3 times from 6:30pm to 10pm, had cold symptoms yesterday at work (another colleague had the cold symptoms too) but last night struggled to sleep with worry of vomiting due to feeling so nauseous! I’ve woke up this morning with just cold symptoms (runny/blocked nose and sore throat) but stomach still not 100%, wondering if that’s to do with diarrhoea last night but had no other stomach related symptoms this morning so fingers crossed it’s just cold symptoms from now on as I hate stomach bugs with a passion!

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2024 06:49

It's done the rounds of our school.

Some positive for covid others not.

But it's also the same symptoms for flu and they use to call some strains stomach flu as it's affects the stomach.

I think we have both going around as they are pushing both jabs for those entitled.

tobee · 30/10/2024 15:32

😊 @JustLaura

MandyMouse23 · 30/10/2024 22:40

I'm now at the one month point. More energy but still sinusy coughing and sore throat. Temp and headache now gone. Had about 2 random days of diarrhea and heart burn which now seems to be on its way out. It's the weirdest thing I've ever had. The sheer fatigue has been off the scale, I thought I'd never feel normal again.

purplebeansprouts · 30/10/2024 22:44

I've been put on antibiotics now

Allthesingleladiessayah · 31/10/2024 00:20

Where did you all get your tests please? Is there one that is better?

Can I get tests from Amazon or should I go to Boots etc?

I am new to all this!

My symptoms are :

  • sudden sore throat that went quickly
  • general fatigue
  • feeling miserable
  • sudden bouts of sudden heat and profuse sweating
  • runny nose
Allthesingleladiessayah · 31/10/2024 00:26

Well I ordered one from Amazon!!

Now having some stomach cramps !

DottyDodger · 31/10/2024 00:39

Had this in September. Lasted 10 days. Tested positive for covid on day 4-5. One packet of tests showed positive, one packed were negative results. Very similar to tummy bug, with a bit of a cold thrown in.

3 weeks later felt poorly again, but symptoms were worse. Completely bed bound for 2 weeks, 3 weeks off work. Didn't test initially as thought it couldn't possibly be covid again so soon, till DH caught it and randomly tested positive. I was day 6-7 and tested positive too.

Now we all have a heavy cold. It's a baaaad bug year...

Betty91 · 31/10/2024 08:25

Came to Mumsnet to see if anyone else had this. Very glad to find this thread as I have been ill for about a month now and feel like I'm going nuts. I had 3 days of classic flu symptoms in Sept but without any cough / sore throat. Just a raging temp and uncontrollable shaking and shivering and feeling sick, unable to get up etc. That passed and I cracked on again with life and work but about a week later got ill again with persistent cough (enough to make me pull back muscles and nearly vomit) and a temperature (not raging, but constantly a bit high and shivering). I decided to take time off to really shake it off but it's not getting any better. Went to GP and was told it's this year's virus - that it lasts a long time. No ABs on offer as my oxygen levels were good and chest didn't sound bad. But like you all I am shattered - I wake up coughing in the night - which can last a good hour or so. Work is suffering now so I need to get back to it. It's such a weird one. Negative covid tests - I can get up and shower and appetite is gone but I can eat - so it's not flu flu.

All the things I postponed until I felt well I am re-postponing. Stupid virus.

Sounds very much like what I've got

Betty91 · 31/10/2024 08:54

@purplebeansprouts such a pile of crap - sorry you've got it too. I'll be ready to start with the witchy woo spells soon. Nothing seems to help very much but I do old school Vick steams with a towel over my head, cough medicine and all that stuff. Did read about salt water gargling so off to try that today. I'll report back if anything seems to help.

Giraff3 · 31/10/2024 10:46

well im off work (2nd day) ive been wiped out. Family member will post me a covid test through the letter box so i can test.
The sore throat has passed but my eyes and nose wont stop streaming and i cant stop sneezing. My body is aching, expecially my neck and my head is banging non stop. I av to wear sunglasses in the house. Spent yesturday asleep with no appetite

Giraff3 · 31/10/2024 13:48

Ive just done a test and it shows positive. 4 days since first symptom started

Betty91 · 31/10/2024 15:05

Bad luck on the covid - I might do another test. have done two negative but might be worth doing again.

Allthesingleladiessayah · 31/10/2024 18:17

I did my covid test today - negative.

My symptoms on day 2 are very simple -

sleeping all day!
feeling weak
very sweaty, occasional quick feverish episodes
slight runny nose, but sniffly
achey body
throat glands up

No cough or digestive troubles especially

Anyone else had this? Maybe it’s just a weird kind of cold?! I hope nothing too bad. Sone of your illnesses described sound awful 😞

tobee · 31/10/2024 21:53

Sleeping all day✅
Feeling weak ✅ here

Plus normal cold/cough symptoms here. Cough outrageously wracking. Lack of appetite and nausea and a couple of bouts of diarrhoea.

Tootyfilou · 31/10/2024 22:07

Woke up today with very sore throat and earache! Still coughing lots, but as @MandyMouse23 says its the fatigue! I have never felt so completely exhausted. I need to go back to to work next week but am dreading it! I can barely manage a shower at the moment. Sympathy to fellow sufferers.

Giraff3 · 31/10/2024 23:04

I had no belly issues. But ive read some have.
I had really painful neck, gum ache, tiredness, loss of appetite, migraine, runny nose, eyes.
Today things dont taste how they should. Im going to wfh tomorrow as long as my eyes stay dry so i can see.

Allthesingleladiessayah · 31/10/2024 23:07

Sudden breakouts of body heat
and perspiration - are others experiencing this?

However, no cough at all.

Perhaps there are a few different things going around/

Lovemusic82 · 01/11/2024 20:56

Just started my own thread but was pointed to this thread.
I started with a head ache for 5 days and now have a really dry throat and tickly cough, slight temp but no sickness and no snotty nose. I have taken 2 covid tests, both negative. Seems to have developed really slowly over 5/6 days, now I feel really tired but overly unwell, haven’t lost my appetite at all.

BrownBoxWhiteLabel · 01/11/2024 21:25

@buffyfaithspike how are you doing?
