For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hi Toot. Got your email about the peas, thanks.

I'm going to bed now. I'm cross with myself that I didn't go an hour ago!

UnderRated · 13/04/2008 23:05

Snow yesterday but I think that should be the last

Week 1 is OK - bursts of 60 sec running and 90 sec walking. I can cope with it so far (although had v sore legs the day after doing it first).

Right, back to the grindstone I think.

UnderRated · 13/04/2008 23:09

That's good. If I'm brave I might go in the morning.

TooTicky · 13/04/2008 23:12

Pink and I are serious veggers UR

UnderRated · 13/04/2008 23:18

I am obviously not a hardcore vegger. I have never emailed anyone about peas. Will I be thrown out now?

TooTicky · 13/04/2008 23:24

No, you're okay. Pink and I have been exchanging seeds.

TooTicky · 13/04/2008 23:25

Actually, that sounds a bit iffy
We are talking gardening here.

UnderRated · 13/04/2008 23:35

rofl @ dubious seed exchange

I did assume it was gardening!

Obama seems to have got himself in hot water again.

TooTicky · 13/04/2008 23:40

I'm afraid I'm not very good at following political things. I was surprised to learn the other day that Tony Blair was no longer PM
I have more important things on my mind obviously.

UnderRated · 13/04/2008 23:52

lol Toot. I am constantly surprised that Tony Blair isn't the prime minister. I think I believe that the UK is just as it was 5 years ago when I left.

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 00:28

yes alright I read the Daily Mail online

but you might find it interesting

night all

xx

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 01:05

Interesting. Presumably lots of cheese helps. I'm worried now.

I'm stuck in a food rut. We eat the same veg over and over again - carrots, peas, corn, broccoli, mushrooms, red cabbage and spinach with the occasional peppers & aubergines. What else can we eat?

F&V: Red Cabbage, bean sprouts, mushrooms, 3 bananas, apple, grapes, carrot, hummous, black beans. I'm stuffed

IdrisTheDragon · 14/04/2008 01:07

Hooray have finished marking. Next lot I will do them in bits, not all the night before I have to send them back

Ho hum. Will go to bed v soon

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 01:13

lol Idris. Glad you got them done.

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 03:56

I went running. I did the first podcast and survived. In fact, I didn't want to stop. Was going to do weights but someone else started using them when I was about to so I did some stretches and left. Will try tomorrow.

FrannyandZooey · 14/04/2008 08:32

Morning

yes it was the film maker gets eaten by a bear one
the film is a documentary, mostly using his footage to tell the story of how and why he ended up trying to live out in Alaska with a bunch of wild animals
you spend the film not being sure whether he was a visionary or a deluded damaged person and there are some very harrowing parts which I won't go into detail about, but the director was crying
his final comment was terribly bleak, the whole thing has unsettled me (I love bears and also want to believe they are cute and cuddly friendly things - like the eaten person did)
I woke up at 4 am having dreadful fears about being eaten and my mother coming to stay all mixed in

oh dear

anyway
grapes banana raisins kiwi strawberries 2 satsumas
I think that is 5 so far

ds is going to an HE event on Friday with a friend of mine - it is an all day thing at a nature reserve
I don't think he has ever been away from me or dp for so long before? I am a bit anxious (not in a bad way, just in a motherly way). He seems ok about it. I wonder how it will go

FrannyandZooey · 14/04/2008 08:47

"franny that sounds very shocking and upsetting"

what the bit about my mother coming to stay?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 14/04/2008 08:50

oh ds is also booked in to start new gymnastics course today
he thinks it is with 2 instructors that he knows already (so did I, when i booked it)
it is with 2 people he has never set eyes on before in his life
and I am only allowed to stay for the first session (and this only with special permission from The Head Of Gymnastics who I had to plead with to get this extraordinary favour )
I hope he is ok
it's a lot of money down the drain if NOT
why are people so obsessed with separating quite young children from their parents?
cannot lie and say I have not booked it in hope of an hour to myself either in gym or in cafe however

hello

has boco gone on her thing?

I am still doing well on my 10.10 and feel better for it. Thanks everyone for all your help. I do need to address the exercise thing too. I am wondering about running but I do this every so often then I start and go about twice and hate it and give up and feel crap.

I should join the gym as I get a student discount. WHat exercies do you do and what stuff at the gym?

Where;s tiger?

Happy day again -all sun shiney.

Am off to market to get some lovely fruit.

BB

Boco · 14/04/2008 09:58

Hello, no still here, leaving this evening.

DD1 did gymnastics for one term, loved it, but then we couldn't get there anymore so had to stop. My children seem to actively LOVE being separated from me, not quite sure how to take that. Especially dd2.

lullabyloo · 14/04/2008 10:17

hello lovely ones

Ds & I are off on the train to the seaside for the day
