For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

What is black chocolate?

If people are listing supplements, I need to know what they are for

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:52

mine are wiry energy burners - -so long as they have their five portions I like them to eat loads of carbs including cake, choc, butter etc etc

the restrictions are
non processed as much as poss (not always easy) but 90 pc home cooked anyway
sweets / e numbers / colourings
fizzy drinks

have turned white rice and pasta into treat foods

TigerFeet · 14/04/2008 19:53

Houmous is fine - I have seen how it's made

Canned chick peas, tahini, garlic puree, rapeseed oil, salt - chuck in very big mixer. Mix & squish into pots. Easy peasy.

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:53

black chocolate is v v dark

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:53

v dark, it's called noir here

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:54

zinc : concentration and immune system
vit c: everything
linseed oil: immune system and brain

BBBee · 14/04/2008 19:55

oh yes zip i saw yours - almost the same as mine - you should get to holland and barret as ours are all on sale.

I take:

iron (because of veg status)
multi vit (belt and braces)
b complex (alleged to help with PMT anger)
evening primrose oil (not enough essential oils in my diet, make skin good.)
vit c (immunity)
ginko biloba (sp) (on offer in H and B!)

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:56

back in a bit my son is afraid of heroes but still wants to watch it so i have to go and iron in the same room

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:57

bbee you must have quite a loud rattle if you go on a trampoline

want to try b complex.. i have it in cupboard

stuffitllama · 14/04/2008 19:57

gosh i could fill up a page just with me at this rate

BBBee · 14/04/2008 19:58

pelvic floor negates trampoline action but you are right if I did I would.

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 19:58

No gym today, stuffit. Maybe tonight. But I did my running there yesterday.

I should take a multi-vitamin and something to make me less tired and feeling flat. An energy booster & cheerer-upper. And something to make me glowy and gorgeous.

BBBee · 14/04/2008 19:58

don't worry stuff - I often post loads of times in a row - so does toot.

BBBee · 14/04/2008 19:59

UR you need to drink coffee - lots of strong coffee.

zippitippitoes · 14/04/2008 20:00

well theoretically the ones i take should do all those things

i did used to eat loads of olive oil and i thinl k that improves your skin but is a;lso quit calorific

zippitippitoes · 14/04/2008 20:00

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 20:03

Gah, I just stopped drinking caffeiene. Don't tell me to drink it. I am easily led!

BBBee · 14/04/2008 20:04

no i know - i am naughty for it, was only teasing.

BBBee · 14/04/2008 20:05

i have tried to give up caffine but it is really hard - esp. if i have early starts and late nights.

UnderRated · 14/04/2008 20:08

Yes, it is v hard to give up BBBee. I thought it might help my insomnia but it hasn't.

MrsCarrot · 14/04/2008 20:11

I have stopped wanting coffee now. Apparently it is possible to get a buzz first thing from fruit but I think I will still want a cup of tea.

MrsCarrot · 14/04/2008 20:13

UR - I think it might take a good while for it to affect your sleep. Winding your body down after being a regular coffee drinking takes ages, all your cortisol levels and natural thingys will be screwed up. How long since you stopped?

zippitippitoes · 14/04/2008 20:13

i have had three college cups today and i am going to have a home one now

my problem is that it makes me want wine in the eve

but i am going to resist that tonight

BBBee · 14/04/2008 20:16

interesting point zippi - i noted that when you said it before. Have cut out wine but I feel I need coffee.

I went down to two cups a day a while ago but if I am up late working I need it. Only good thing is that I am very choosy and will only drink nice coffee so no crappy machine stuff.
