We're still here but not had chance to go out again, it's been raining or dh has had a bad toe (seriously!) or we ahve been going out at night.

i'm very disappointed as I was determined about this. I have to be out at 6.45 tomorrow but we have to try and squeeze one in before then.

Still going to be on week one in a month at this rate

wheelybug · 26/06/2008 08:28

Welcome twofalls !

gscrym - how much was the Nike sportsband. I have been dithering over whether to get a good stopwatch for my birhtday or this. Brambles, how are you getting on with yours ?

Lili - stay determined to get out and you will when you can. Good luck !

Well I made it round Richmond Park. Everyone tells me I am mad to road run when I have the Park on my doorstep but its quite boring tbh. Its beautiful but I don't really appreciate beauty when I'm puffing and panting and sweating. However, I have completely buggered up my knee. It started hurting about 20 mins into the run but then felt ok but now its really sore . Won't get out again until Saturday so hopefully resting it until then will sort it out. Also, does anyone else get a sort of clicking in the back of their leg judt above the heel ? Its a really wierd feeling and presumably a ligament or something. Oh, and my toe hurts. Apart from that I'm fine . I really must buy new trainers.....

Flier · 26/06/2008 11:19

well i haven't run since last week my left leg, from my hip right down to my knee is hurting and don't know what is best to do - ignore and run anyway or rest up. anyone gone through the same?

wheelybug · 26/06/2008 12:24

I've had various aches/pains since I started Flier. Most I have run through but I guess it depends what it is (Helpful!?). I find its ok if its just a muscle strain - it might hurt a bit at the beginning but then once the muscles are warmed up is ok. On the other hand, am resting my knee as I think knees can be problematic. Why don't you try a bit and see how it feels ?

Flier · 26/06/2008 12:27

thanks wheelybug, I guess thats the only thing I can do, really

SparklyPrincess · 26/06/2008 15:30

I get a kind of clicking just above my knee Wheelybug. Tend to notice it more when I'm walking rather than running though - possibly cos I can't hear it over the puffing and panting. Seems to hurt, but only if I haven't got my iPod on so I reckon that's in my head!

Seem to recall something about that being bubbles of air in the cartilege (sp?) popping as the joint flexes. Whether that's a good, bad or totally indifferent thing I don't know!

gscrym · 26/06/2008 19:04

Wheely, it was £40. If you don't have the nike+ shoes, yoiu need to buy the wee pouch that attachs the sensor to your trainers. That was about £8 from my local running shop. You could probably get the pouch cheaper on ebay. The sportband was the same price on ebay as it was in my local shop.

wheelybug · 26/06/2008 21:41

Thanks Gscrym. I think I'll go for it. It will make me feel really sporty if I have a gadget .

Sparkly - the air bubble theory sounds plausible (as in thats what it might feel like). I don't get it when I run, usually the morning after a run and just when I first get up. Its a really wierd feeling...

wheelybug · 26/06/2008 21:46

Another qu on the nike+ thing - does the armband give you info as you're running ?? Like time, distance ?

wheelybug · 26/06/2008 21:55

Actually googled and I believe it does. Marvellous. Am going to request one - and as I need new trainers I may as well try the Nike+ ones and see how they feel (they've got to better than my 8 year old ones I've been using ). .

bramblebooks · 26/06/2008 21:56

loves my nike+ ! I WILL go for a run tomorrow - have had a really busy week at work and my son has had continuous blood glucose monitoring.

The nike+ that links to my ipod was only 19.99 from hmv and I bought the little shoe pouch and arm band from amazon - fab. I'll go and have a look what make in a mo!

Whenever I press the button in the middle of the ipod, it gives me a rundown of how fast I'm going, etc.

If we're getting nike+ thingys, we could set personal challenges - ie, to run 10k or whatever each over the month.

bramblebooks · 26/06/2008 22:19

Marware Sportsuit Relay - from amazon - very pleased with it as I didn't have a little hole in my running shoes to put the nike unit in.

wheelybug · 27/06/2008 08:48

Thanks Brambles. Will put it on birthday list (yes, am still a child when it comes to birthdays !).

bramblebooks · 27/06/2008 11:49

Ooooh that feels a lot better! Up most of the night with ds2 who was having a lot of hypos. Thought I'd get 'up and at it' anyway and had a lovely 4k run which has invigorated my poor old tired self!!!

Let us now be up and doing
With a heart to any fate
Still achieving, still pursuing
Learn to labour, and to wait!

wheelybug · 27/06/2008 14:22

Wow ! Poetry too Brambles .

Hope DS is ok

Flier · 28/06/2008 09:53

question about the ipod and nike+ - will only an ipod work with the nike+ stuff, or will any mp3 player do? I want to get an mp3 player so I can use the podcasts but don't have the cash for an ipod, just a cheapy mp3 player

gscrym · 28/06/2008 15:17

You buy a wee pouch for your shoes if you don't have the Nike+ ones. It gets strapped to your laces. The attachment for the IPod will only work with the IPod. That kit is £20. I already have a good MP3 player that isn't an IPod so I put the podcasts on that and got the Nike+ Sportband. It has the link thing as a USB thingy that you wear as a watch and you can plug it into a PC once you've done a run and download all the data to your Nike+ site.

I love mine and I've only done two runs with it.

gscrym · 28/06/2008 15:18

Forgot to say, the sportband is £40 plus however much you pay for the shoe pouch.

Flier · 28/06/2008 16:05

thanks gscrym, I saw the pouch on ebay this morning, I think i'll get one - hoping dh will be buying me an mp3 player for my birthday on Monday so if he does I'll be buying the sportband and the pouch.

gscrym · 29/06/2008 08:11

I just finished my first run of week three and I didn't collapse in a heap or require CPR in the driveway. I was puffing along, praying for Rawb to talk to me though.

Theresa · 29/06/2008 09:01

having a bad time at the minute, had a really bad cough and cold whihc is still lingering, have not felt like running at all but have pushed myself on a couple of 3 or 4 mile runs a week. Have just done 6 3/4 miles (just under 11k) and it took me 1hr and 20 mins whihc is total pants. I feel like all of my hard work is disappearing and am starting from scratch again!

wheelybug · 29/06/2008 14:10

Well done gscrym !!

Theresa - take care of yourself. Once you're feeling better you'll be back on track. Don't push yourself too much or you'll end up feeling worse.

Itsthawooluff · 29/06/2008 14:43

Hooray - 20 mins this morning and no stabbing calf pains, just the usual twinges from my worn out bod!

Feel much happier and have proper endorphin rush - .

bramblebooks · 29/06/2008 20:59

Well done guys! Any aches and make sure you're well warmed up - I have to do lots of knee stuff before I get going.

Loving the nike+, particularly since I calibrated it to my stride.

Went out tonight with my neighbour and we chatted our way past 5k together. Would not have thought it a year ago! The nike + gave us progress reports whenever we needed it and told us how many cals we'd burned at the end.

Furball · 29/06/2008 21:19

out of interest - roughly how many cals do you burn on a 5km run?
