Popping in to say hello !

Just back from skiing - had fantastic time and I think all that running was worth it as I was definitely fitter for skiing. Am a bit achey and my knees are a bit sore so may rest this week but please make sure I get back to running next week.... Not sure where to start though - I finished in week 7, and had run 5k. I think I'll just try and do a twenty minute run and work up from that with my own music ?

Wow Misdee !! Congrats - what fab news !!

hi everyone,

i'm going out tonight. gonna do the 2 x 8 min jogs and then try the 20 mins next time as i'm feeling a bit scaredy girl pants tbh.

haven't run for ages, wish me luck...

pmsl furball - know exactly what you mean about the water one! My main concern for my 10k in June is that there won't be toilets on the way and that I need a hair and makeup stop at 9k in readiness for my family at 10k - it'll be cameras a go-go!

Just done 5k today hugely happy as I haven't run for a whole week due to graduation and gyppy tummy!

I used a different strategy on timing today, which helped for me. A slower run for 1k for warm up, then bursts of running a bit faster (but not flat out, just picking up the pace a bit) for 1/2k at a time, then back to the slower run speed.

Come on the girls!!!!

bramblebooks · 16/03/2008 18:12

hope the run goes well, ladyjogsalot . I think once you've done the 20mins everything gets easier, iyswim, it's such a huge jump in distance, but slow down a bit and it's not so bad!

The calorie counter came in at about 350 burned today when I'd run the 5K - if that doesn't keep us going, what will? !!

I've made it to week 6. Did a whole 20 minutes run on friday and survived - unbelievable. But I did first of week 6 today and found it really hard going - in a way 20 minutes seemed easier - but I'm going to stick with and can't beleive that as of next week each of my runs will be over 20 minutes long!

debbiewebweb - exactly the same happened to me. - I did the 20 mins then the start of the next week was really tough. I did run 2 and that was alot easier.

I'm due for the 25 mins today - 25! can't believe it, especially when we know how hard it was in the start to run for 1 min

can't keep up with everybody indiviually - but good luck to everyone collectively, we can really do this and by the sounds of it we are

oh wow oh wow!! well done furball! I share that feeling! Sometimes to go further, I have to slow down to an almost walking jog!

My training days are all out of synch, if I unstiffen I'll do a 2 miler later, otherwise I'll wait until weds to do another 5k (I've got a nice route along the canal mapped out).

I think that now those of use who are at/nearly at 5k are doing this sort of distance, we've got to maintain at this sort of distance for the next 6 months in order to build body strength before moving on.

I got up to my 5k last year and have been running on and off before joining you inspirational lot and getting going again, aiming for a 10k by June. argh.

Good running the girls!!!

Well done everyone ! Sounds like you're all doing great.

I was going to give myself this week off (to add to the week off I had before skiing to rest my joints, the weeks skiing (although that did involve a lot of exercise) and then this week to allow my knees to recover... but think I might just be procrastinating !

I did weigh myself this morning to find I lost more weight in the last 2 weeks than when running ?! When we were away we were eating cooked breakfast, chips everyday for lunch, beer with lunch and in the afternoon, afternoon cake, 3 course dinners with lots of wine. I guess that shows what good exercise skiing is - if only I could go out for half an hour ski instead of running but not too many snow covered mountains in south west london sadly .

DD not in pre-school today so I can happily say I am going to start this week cos I can't today ! If I don't have anything on tomorrow am when dd is at pre-school I will go for a bit of a run to see how i feel. Remind and nag me everyone

Well done everyone - I like the idea of a quick ski every morning to shift those pounds, but no mountains out of my window either unfortunately

I've been having problems here ever since I went "off program" which serves me right I guess - yesterday I ran 14 mins, walked a track, then ran another 11 mins, which is a 25 min run, but I cant do it continuously. I dont know why, as I was running 22 minutes happily a few weeks ago. I'm guessing its psychological, so I'm going to give it all I've got tomorrow when I go out, to overcome the 14 minute barrrier. The problem is always the pain in my legs rather than feeling too tired, but I stretch religously before and after running - any suggestions anyone ?

Hi
I downloaded the week 1 podcast and did it for the first time on Sat.Hoping to do it again today.
Its great to read all you who are now 6 or 8 weeks down the line and running for like half and hour.
I find it really hard and tbh will prob have to stick at week 1 for 2 or 3 weeks or maybe a month !

Report
LadyJogsAlot · 18/03/2008 11:18

fakeblonde, welcome. the podcasts really do work, go at your own pace.

minum, maybe have a few days off to give your legs a break? you may just need a little rest to get back on track.

come on wheely! get out there

Welcome fakeblonde

It really does get better very very quickly! If I'd been told I'd run for 3 minutes when the week 1 runs seemed to be killing me, I would not have believed them - but here I am 3 weeks later and I can. Next step up to 5 mins - looking forward to it!

Didn't really go too well, but I least I went out, so fingers crossed for some improvement (and no snow!) on Thursday...

I've got my MOJO back

I ran for 28 mins this morning, best of all, I set myself a distance target to achieve by Easter, when I started this at the begining of the year, and I've done it, in time

Thanks to everyone on this thread, as the support has been a big part of me sticking to this, and making my goal. Anyone who is feeling they're going backwards at the moment, or making no progress, stick with it, you are getting better, and you will get results.

Good luck to everyone running this week, its beautiful out there this morning
