good for you lilibet, its amazing how much better we feel for doing it, isn't it?

annieapple7 · 19/06/2008 21:29

Well done Lillibet! I wasn't going to go - I had eaten too much for tea; it was very windy blah blah then I rang my friend and she said she had been running already so it was straight upstairs to get sports bra on and go! I feel so much more energetic afterwards!
I need to get a stopwatch though; I haven't a clue how far I have been. I just look at the kitchen clock when I leave and get back, tonight it was 15 minutes, but nearly all on grass. And it was windy!
Now I must put a £1 in my jar!
£5 in it since beginning of June - cor, I shall my able to afford my designer jeans in no time at this rate!!

wheelybug · 19/06/2008 23:16

Yeah ! Well done Lilibet and Annie (and welcome !).

Lili - I started out at 11 stone but am a midget so to get a 'normal' BMI I need to be 9 stone 2. I am currently 9 stone 10 and was aiming for 9 stone 7 as am naturally quite stocky but will see how we go - if I get to 9 stone 7 I'll be ecstatic and anything more than that....

Managed to get out tonight for a quick run. A friend had left a jacket at our leisure centre and doesn't live nearby so I ran the long way there - picked up the jacket -tied it round my waist and ran home - ditched the jacket in the front garden and kept running. I think my neighbours (who of course, surprisingly for london, were all out and about) thought I was insane.

solarpoweredbarbarella · 20/06/2008 08:05

Hey well done Lilibet and Annie, I like that idea do you give yourself a pund everytime you go for a run.
I could do that, I could also give myself another pound everytime I don't have a fag, day 5 now yu know.
I am out again at the weekend after my week off.

Itsthawooluff · 20/06/2008 08:51

Oh thank the Lord - I managed to run this morning, after two weeks off with an injury. Ran for about 15 mins, with a couple of small stops to stretch my still a bit dodgy calf. Waiting for that endorphin surge - woohoo!

Have decided to go back down the Rawb podcasts to week 6. They say 2 weeks back for every week off - so week 6 should be about right.

Lilibet -I have at least 2 stone to lose, and my ideal target weight would be about 12 stone, which is considerably more than 2 stone of loss. I'm a heifer, I know (for the "just eat less" brigade just in case they are looking) - but I am doing something about it!

bramblebooks · 20/06/2008 13:14

Hi Guys,

I've had a tired and busy week, so have only just got out for a run and a gym session today. 3k felt good.

I am currently breaking in my new 'fitflops' - I'll let you know if my bum starts shifting north!

Theresa · 20/06/2008 21:47

Hello everyone, still not properly back into it after a week in majorca (but that was nearly a mobnth ago!! . Have managed 1 5 mile rune and then a few three milers. Went out on Monday night for 4 1/2 miles and have developed a bad cough and cold, combined with school trips and helping set up for our summer fair, so running taking a bit of a back seat prob until sunday. Flier I have still not managed the art of breathing properly and I think it really slows me down as i have to keep stopping to catch my breath! Sorry cant offer any constructive advice on that one!

electricbarbarella · 22/06/2008 09:50

Hi there i am out later for my first run as a no smoker. Can't wait to see if it is any easier. We are going to need a new thread soon.

electricbarbarella · 22/06/2008 18:11

I did 8k, thats 8kilometers, really 8 of them, can't believe it, got home though and I can't do my bloody trousers up.

Theresa · 22/06/2008 21:44

Well done barbie! I did my first run since last monday tonight, I hate missing that long as i feel that i lose my ability to run very quickly. Still have a horrible cough and cold so just did about 5k, maybe just under and it wasnt too bad, good to get going again. Shame about your trousers!!

electricbarbarella · 23/06/2008 07:58

Sorry your still feeling a bit crappy, I was proper gutted about the trousers, I think I need to stop eating so much. I am a bit sore this morning, my hip is killing, will have to see how that goes as it can't be good. I wasn't really very quick 55 minutes.

wheelybug · 23/06/2008 08:54

Yeah ! Well done EB (on the distance and lack of smoking!) although bad news about the trousers.

I didn't have a great week last week - didn't get out as much, or run for as long as I'd have liked. So, back on track this week - hoping to do 10K this morning (although on friday evening 5K almost killed me - think its much harder to run in the evenings so respect to those of you that do).

On the weight loss thing - I am amazed, I slipped off my v. strict diet for a couple of days last week as my parents were staying. Didn't go mad but also didn't run as far and the weight has started creeping back on already. Humph.

Theresa · 23/06/2008 18:15

yeah wheely its a bu*r isnt it, all that effort to get it off and absolutely no effort at all to put it back on again!

gscrym · 24/06/2008 09:48

Any helpful hints for me?

I'm on week 2 of the Podcasts and I really struggled with the runs. It seems to be about the last 15-20 seconds of the last 2. I managed week 1 but I'm getting quite breathless with week 2. Is there any way I can improve my breathing?

Thanks.

SparklyPrincess · 24/06/2008 10:14

Hi gscrym,

I found the breathing was difficult to start with. I think I was probably going to fast to start with, and after a little while settled into a better pace, the breathing got better at that point.

I'm still working on being able to run without walking. Have done 25 mins but struggling to repeat - I'm thinking that one of my problems is pacing so that I don't get too tired too quickly cos that's the point my breathing goes to pot and I end up in a heap!

Keep going - you'll get the hang of it!

SP xx

Flier · 24/06/2008 12:28

thats good to hear about the breathing, I've been struggling with this too and have asked a couple of times for advice here. i'll stick with it, then and look forward to it getting a bit easier.

gscrym · 24/06/2008 12:32

Thanks for that. I'll try slowing down a bit, although I'm not very fast at the moment.

SparklyPrincess · 24/06/2008 16:58

I'm sure I'd get overtaken by old dears with their zimmer frames - but I'm running not walking and hopefully I'll get quicker one day!

wheelybug · 25/06/2008 08:59

Agree that the breathing does get better. I can remember Rawb saying you should be able to talk whilst you run and me thinking that I found it difficult enough to breathe and run ! Now I have been known to talk on my mobile (breathlessly though) whilst out running.

Well done everyone for keeping up the running !!

Wish me luck - my challenge today is to run the perimeter of Richmond Park which is apparently 7.25 miles - a whole mile more than I've run before. Am not really sure about it tbh !!!

electricbarbarella · 25/06/2008 09:32

good luck wheely, you are getting good, I can't go out today so will have to wait fot the weekend again, may try and do the big 10 then.

Itsthawooluff · 25/06/2008 12:20

Hello, had a run today, but only managed 10 mins before the calf started really hurting, so walked v fast for 6 mins, then tried to run again and only managed 5 mins.

Dammit - why does the leg feel fine until I start to run?

Go Wheely!

GColdtimer · 25/06/2008 14:57

hi there, can I join you? I need some encouragement. I used to run quite a bit but have done nothing since dd born 2 years ago. A friend has persuaded me to run a 10k race with her in October so I have to start somewhere. I am about to go out now for my first session

gscrym · 25/06/2008 15:27

I treated myself to the Nike sportband. I've just stuck it on charge so in 2 hours, I'm going to set up my stuff and see how I get on.

GColdtimer · 25/06/2008 15:34

good luck, are you following the training plan? I just did week one but realised when I got back I'd got confused so started at week 2. I managed it OK. Let me know if having a gadget helps the running!

gscrym · 25/06/2008 15:37

Will do. I thought seeing as that's my first month done, I thought I'd get one. I'm on week 2 of the podcast, keeping doing each one till it feels easier, then moving on.
