Hi, sorry to interrupt your conversation but I am so desperate to talk to someone about the smoking thing. Have been to ashamed to bring the subject up with anyone and thought I was the only smoking mother in the world. Just to clarify, I am pregnant with my first child (now 36 weeks) and am still smoking-only 3 a day- does that make it any better? I desperately want to give up before baby is born but keep failing. Did either of you smoke whilst pregnant? DH is non-smoking, goody two shoes doctor, so not much help! Hope to hear back, thanks for listening!

Festivepussy · 12/12/2004 09:45

Hi Slipper, yes I did and so did a couple of others here. Its good you have cut down to 3 a day...well done!! Have you read Allen Carr at all? He is the man for changing the way you think about fags.
Your doing really well at only 3 a day as for the rest of those hours in between your body is craving nicotine..Come back and chat whenever you like!

merryminkmama · 12/12/2004 12:00

hi everyone,

sorry i haven't been on much the last few days, the boys have gone haywire! took ds1 to doctor who said it was v. likely to be hand, foot & mouth and so he wasn't eating properly and at night was uncomfortable. then ds2 starts teething again - lots of dribble but no teeth!! so at night they've been tag-teaming with the crying, one starts then stops then the other starts etc....i know this isn't as half bad as dd BM, but my god it ain't easy!

plus organising xmas stuff....arghhh didn't even get a chance to read up on your posts yesterday!

hopefully i'll be able to join you as normal by this evening, if not i'll be here asap!!!

thanks for the fb FP, will go and read now!

Festivepussy · 12/12/2004 12:43

It was your bog standard fb Mink as i didnt want to over do it LOL
DD1 is having a temper tantrum, shes a rude ignorant little sod sometimes and was grunting at us when we asked if it was a disco at her school this thursday...so shes having a paddy and im here bashing at the keyboard brushing my teeth taking big deep breaths.............in out in out
Noone mentions this shit in the baby books do they????
I s any one having an easy time with thier dds/ds's???

bluemoon · 12/12/2004 12:58

Mm, that sounds rough! It must be double-trouble when you've got 2 grumpy ones to deal with. Hope you get some sleep tonight ...

Slipper, hello, don't feel guilty. Yes, to my shame I smoked during my pregnancy. I hated myself for it and dp was very pissed off with me about it. But it was only 1-3 a day. Unfortunately I didn't stop and I wish I had when I was on so few. So after dd was born it gradually crept up and up until I joined this thread and am doing my best to stop. I'd gone up to 10 a day again. In my previous pre-pregnancy life I was a 30 a day addict so there's no hope for me as a 'casual' smoker!!

Fp, I had a really rough patch with dd a few weeks ago, think I grumbled about it here. It was a combination of things: potty training / her cough starting / her getting more and more 2-ish. For the first time since she was born I found myself looking forward to going to work and having a break! It's much better again now. I've realised how much I affect her mood by my own mood. It's impossible to be bloody Mary Poppins though but I do know if I don't give her 'enough' (not too much I stress) attention and if I'm short-tempered with her then it works against me in the long term.

I dare say you with older kids will tell me that this will get worse and worse and whatever I say and do will have no effect on her moods. I live in hope though ...

Festivepussy · 12/12/2004 13:15

I dont think there is an hope for my dd, she was born a screamer, she had tantrums from 9 months onwards and she didnt sleep/eat she was a bloody nightmare and still shes not easy. However my little one is totally different and an absolote breeze to deal with. Well except she mimics her big sister and sounds just like her sometimes and I could scream then...just going shopping..Ta Ta for now xx

bluemoon · 12/12/2004 15:08

Do you think we should start a new thread again soon? This one's getting long again Smile.

Well, the truth is I can't really complain, dd's been pretty easy going so far. She hasn't had a tantrum yet (fingers crossed, touching wood etc.) and has generally been a good sleeper and an utterly lousy eater (dreadful, you wouldn't believe how bad). The 'attitude' if you can call it that with a 26-month-old is a very recent thing and I don't know if it's here to stay or is connected to lots of things going wrong at once. Anyhow it gave me a first insight into how utterly exhausting and draining it can be!

Hey, fp, did that thread you pointed out last night with fairyfly get deleted in the end do you think? And what was the other thread you mentioned that Jenni started?

Typical Sunday here. Dp downstairs with his Books. Me and dd entertaining ourselves pulling the heads off all her sticker animals ... Grin
