For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

No i don't think so, but she's often a bit brave about things and doesn't say. I think she likes things about school, and has friends and is good at her work and progressing, but if something is bothering her it totally takes over and becomes huge.

I find it really hard to get the balance between being Anne about things and brushing them off and sending her on her way briskly so as to not dwell on something seemingly very small that she is suddenly terribly upset by, and sweeping her up and cuddling her and telling her teacher that she's coming home NOW.

ahundredtimes · 18/10/2007 18:51

Well it is an extremely difficult balance to get isn't it. Not sure what to do. Everyone tired, run-down, ready for half-term. Recover selves, get lots of sleep, recharge batteries do you think? Poor dd. And then you were locked out and wandering the streets crying?

Hello Idris. Well done. Boco and I are in the pit discussing important matters and eating mars bars, everyone else is marching about with vegetables.

Boco · 18/10/2007 18:55

Luckily i was due to go to friends house anyway, so just stayed all day. It's the new friend from toddlers and she picked us up in her car - was very nice. Her husband keeps falcons! and takes them out hunting! with big dogs! I expected him to have a long beard and dramatic sunset behind him at all times, but he looked normal.

ahundredtimes · 18/10/2007 18:59

I heart this new friend, even if her husband keeps falcons Though actually as birds go they are not too bad as always seem quite robust of bone, and not too spindly, but quite splendid and sort of self-sufficient if you see what I mean. I've never really minded owls either, because they are quite wide.

Am so pleased new friend has a car too. What are you doing for half term? I quite like it down here, I like chatting to you in the dark, and not having Franny shouting at us about borage and things I've never heard of.

Boco · 18/10/2007 19:17

I like the mars bars too, it's nice down here, just the steady thudding of boots on mud above.

I heart new friend too, she's very nice and we have lots of things in common and do a lot of laughing which i like. She asked if i'd like to go out in the evening next week and in her car in half term with children.

The falcons were amazing. They sat and watched us. They were quite wide, but obviously more narrow than owls.

That reminds me. dd1 said that she's not too keen on one of the teachers as she feels her face is far too narrow and there isn't enough room for her eyes.

ahundredtimes · 18/10/2007 19:19

I heart dd1 I think. That is a very good observation, I am going to nick it!

Hope it was nice, Avi, if not at least it was virtuous! I am going to bed as ds has kindly seen fit to pass me his manky flu.

Even so, I have managed banana, at least 2 portions of dates, veg soup (2), squash, pumpkin, lentils, grapes and and and oh shit, well that's 9, anyway. I'll throw that lettuce I didn't have into the pit...

Falcons sound exciting.

Boco · 18/10/2007 19:39

Vegetable spaghetti?

I liked dds observation although they can be harsh and odd. She doesn't like dinner ladies because they are always looking for injured children. She doesn't like wet paper towels because they smell of old potatoes. She loves a little girl in year two because her mouth is so small it's lovely to watch her talk.

Boco · 18/10/2007 19:40
SauerKraut · 18/10/2007 19:49

On second thoughts, I won't, after reading the thread- you deserve your Mars bar, poor dd, school problems are horrible- it sounds heartrending. Have another one. She sounds mightily good at expressing herself, though!

BBBee · 18/10/2007 20:15

HELLO!

oh hello my lovelies hello - do you remeber me?

what is going on?

boot camp?

I MISSED YOU!

FrayedKnot · 18/10/2007 20:16

Being physically ill can have a big effect on your emotional health, imho. I always think about the fact that years ago people went to the countryside for 6 months to convalesce from things like flu - whereas now we seem to expect ourselves, and our children, to be back to normal immediately after the symptoms of illness have gone.

can you have a nice nurturing day at home tomorrow Boco?

I have heartburn. So much for f&v

FrayedKnot · 18/10/2007 20:18

BBBee! Are you OK?

Some of us are in a pit of despair scoffing mars bars, and some of us are sitting up here with indigestion from eating copious quantities of f&v.

You can choose!

Franny has stomped off.

BBBee · 18/10/2007 20:21

no franny?

mars bars?

fuck!

FrannyandZooey · 18/10/2007 20:45

How come they are getting Mars Bars?

Hang on, I don't like Mars Bars. Yeah, let those Mars Bars be a lesson to you!

I didn't stomp I backed away slowly. Then I was busy. I'm back now and I'm looking for my hat.

Gosh Megalegs is star pupil isn't she? Aren't you all glad I recruited her? And she thinks I am not gawky!

Zippi is THAT IT??? Hmmm? A banana? You need more nutrients than that to stay up all night flirting with young men, I think

FK I am impressed - but did you do the press ups?

Boco have you eaten more stuff? You can't stay down there in the pit! There are loofahs and stuff God it sounds absolutely awful and this is totally the place for it. She sounds like she is still very much under the weather. Tbh I think the teachers should have phoned you and got you to come and collect her - but maybe you were not contactable as out of the house? I hate being locked out - you feel so disenfranchised. The combination of the two must have been grim.

I bet you are shaky still. Are you getting looked after? FWIW having a kind of disaster and having to lean on new friend could be a good thing in the long run. You get to know people more quickly when you are thrown together like that, and it kind of cuts out some of the shit

Idris yay. Is the course all over now?

100 I never mention borage. I am sorry you don't like the shouting. The others made me do it.

SK marvellous and I hope you feel better. All that vit C may see it off?

Beeeeeee we love you. Look how wrong it has all gone without you? It's turned Lord of the Flies with people in a pit being stoned with rotten vegetables. This never would have happened if you had been here.

FK - "Being physically ill can have a big effect on your emotional health, imho." YES YES YES absolutely.

Boco sorry it's been emotional for you today

I have not been to the gym but I am burning calories listening to DM and drooling over pictures in the cd booklet (wanna dance FMF?)

FMF, full moon is next Friday so PMT is looming. I had forgotten about it but I had an Aaaaargh moment earlier (during an otherwise good day) and thought surely it can't be that time again already...

Today has been good f&v wise, really zingy. Lunch was avocado, tomato, red onion and feta salsa thingy (with lime squeezed over it) in corn tortillas. Then I made a huge fk off vegetable curry for dinner which I really enjoyed. And it was a lovely sunny day, ds and I spent time out in the fresh air and I felt good after it all. Which makes a change for me.

Boco · 18/10/2007 21:04

I wish SKs blueberry brownies were real, they sound good.

Hello Bee, tell us about things, about the course and the people and finding the rooms!

Thanks Franny, generally.

Tatties · 18/10/2007 21:05

Oh BBB hello! Yes we have been worried about you

ibroughtcake · 18/10/2007 21:06

ok, i'm not joining or anything, just wanted to ask a question

DD went to mil a few weeks back and was eating green gages?? which she now loves by all accounts, so what are they? and where do I get them? and do I have to do anything with them?

thought you lot might know

Boco · 18/10/2007 21:06

Thank you Tatties. I love it in the dark pit catching nice things.

Yes, i think you're all right, it's the scarletina and dd will be ok when she feels better. Dp looked at her this evening and said she looks like someone who's had makeup put on them to make them look really ill.
