For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Thanks for the encouraging words Franny. The ultimate aim is, apart from general tidiness (ish), is getting rid of the sideboard. It's quite interesting - you can see The Scream by Edvard Munch in the wood grain.

TooTicky · 21/10/2007 19:19

Don't think nuts count, but the chickpeas in the hummous should.

littlerach · 21/10/2007 19:23

What else can I od with chickpeas then?

Boco · 21/10/2007 19:24

You are brave Toot. I've been steadily tidying for an hour, and things are not improving because i'm cleaning at a very slightly slower rate than the girls are untidying. DD1 is doing sticking, drawing, play dough and colouring all at once, at the table, on the dining room floor, and in the bathroom. I'm moving between those areas peeling things off things.

I'm having beans on toast for tea because i've not had much sleep for last 2 nights and can't remember any other kinds of food.

TooTicky · 21/10/2007 19:24

Make falafel. Or add them to stews or curries. I love chick peas but my dcs don't

littlerach · 21/10/2007 19:25

Yes, do falafel. Lovely.
I do like curry, may do that.
thans you.

TooTicky · 21/10/2007 19:28

I am desperate Boco. Things HAVE to improve. I also have this vague idea that if the house is in a better state, so will we be and perhaps our finances will improve too. Sort of make-it-up-as-I-go-along feng shui or something.

Boco · 21/10/2007 19:37

I think that too Toot. And i think it's a bit true. When everything is a tip it's harder to think straight and be in control. And tidying up does literally get things in order. I need to go through all my important things in drawers like insurance and bills and tax credits and self assessment etc etc and if i was tidier about those things i probably would have more money.

Can we have

"Samphire's gotten hold of my Chard"

for the thread title?

pinkspottywellies · 21/10/2007 20:25

Love that one FK!

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2007 20:40

Oh I think it will definitely have a good effect TooT. You need to kind of make way for all the good things to come in to your life, definitely [ponce]. I do honestly think it will help

FK LOL that is a great one. Shall we have that one or shall we bicker some more about plurals and rhymes and have Vegetables Count etc?

Or...

Habbibu · 21/10/2007 20:54

Hello. Mostly cake and chocolate, though did have vichy glazed carrots and cooked (blee) cauliflower for dinner. Will flagellate with the innards of a spaghetti squash cooked till a bit too crispy and report back

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2007 20:57

oh come in Habbibu

the cake has earned you enough Brownie points for a week or two I reckon

Fk stop while you are ahead

That's my contribution for the whole year

Habbibu · 21/10/2007 21:17

Not v. good company tonight - Habbibi's first trial days at nursery next week and I am very sad - really don't want her to go (only 2 days pw, but still) - but have to go back to work. She hasn't been apart from me for more than a couple of hours since she was born, and I am going to miss her so much...

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2007 21:19

Sorry Habbibu, how miserable for you

trying to find some positive aspect but you may enjoy being the interesting bits of back at work, even though you will miss her

OH IMPORTANT STUFF ABOUT THE MEET UP

I have emailed everyone who originally let me know they wanted to come - if anyone has not had an email about it lately, or has changed their mind and wants to now come, you need to let me know IMMEDIATELY as I need payment right now, virtually this minute, and then it will be all done and no more chances no no absolutely not [triple stern]

OP posts:
Habbibu · 21/10/2007 21:24

Thanks, Franny, but no, I don't love my job (want to retrain to be a midwife, but also want another child, and want them to be a bit older before I take on something else blah blah blah). It's a bit more complicated, as we lost a baby before little H was born, and I really don't want to have to leave another one and walk away. That's really silly, as it's ABSOLUTELY NOT the same thing, but these things do get tangled up in my head...

Hey ho. It's a nice nursery, it's right on the beach, so she'll see the sea and the cliffs and the gulls and smell the salt. I will be 50 miles away, bored stiff and wanting to play. Maybe I'll take "Click Clack Moo: Cows that type" with me and read it in down moments.

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2007 21:28

I am so sorry Habbibu, I think it is bloody awful when women have to leave their kids when they don't want to

OP posts:
Habbibu · 21/10/2007 21:47

Bah humbug. I am just in a big sulk. Going to a nice SANDS meet in Edinburgh tomorrow where I will whinge to a load of people I've never met before about it, and no doubt feel much better.

Thanks, Franny.

FrannyandZooey · 21/10/2007 22:04

I hope you do feel better having done that. Whinge to us as well, if it helps.
