For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

SauerKraut · 03/09/2007 14:46

LL. Well, if you ever feel you need a break, you now know where we are!

Lullabyloo · 03/09/2007 14:52

am going to Devon in a couple of weeks, renting a house to be near all my closest friends for a week....but havn't told anyone...& dont want dh too ...I just want to be normal for a week.....cook with friends, walk, picnic etc...i dont want pitying glances & sadness & such like.
Dh says it is obvious I'm not well & people will be shocked by my weightloss...& he feels the need to tell all & sundry ..it makes him feel better.

SauerKraut · 03/09/2007 15:04

That sounds like a great idea.
By the way, the woodsy pictures on your profile are gorgeous.

lionheart · 03/09/2007 15:51

They are gorgeous pictures. And I've just noticed that avi has a kitchen plus .... on her profile.

TooTicky · 03/09/2007 17:25

LL, are you driving to Devon? If you're passing nearby you'd be most welcome to pop in
No obligation though

lionheart · 03/09/2007 17:46

Do you look very different, LL? Perhaps your friends won't won't react that way at all?

Boco · 03/09/2007 18:08

Have a great time in Devon LL, sounds like just what you need. I can understand you wanting to just be yourself and not have to deal with awkwardness, but surely your friends would want to know and give you support? I've been thinking about this all afternoon. I think i'd really want to know if my friend was ill, so i could do what i could, even just chat when she felt low about it, or have a laugh and distract her from things when that's what she needed. Maybe if you tell them, but explain that you just want to have a lovely time, they might get that. Up to you of course you know what you need, but you seem to be coping with an awful lot on your own, and maybe letting your friends know would be a good thing. [takes nose back out]

I've had a really rubbish f&v day. I've eaten an apple and some dried apricots and that's it. I'm too irritated and frustrated to concentrate (with random things nothing interesting) - and having the most un-10/10 meal imaginable. I will leave in shame.

Goodbye.

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 18:13

Wishing you a nice break LL.

I think I forgot to eat today...2 plums is all i can remember.

A veg-laden chilli for tea though.

lionheart · 03/09/2007 18:49

Is the vegetable part of that chilli at all related to the cocoa bean, fmv?

And I refer back to your post of 12:23:01.

filthymindedvixen · 03/09/2007 18:51

there may be a smidge of organic dark chocolate in there....yes

lionheart · 03/09/2007 18:52

Sounds delicious.

BBBee · 03/09/2007 19:00

LL - in essence I agree with Boco but the thing is that this news is so new for you and your dp - you have known what - two days. You are not going to devon for a couple of weeks so if at the moment you feel like not telling her plan it like that but it is not a definite choice and you can change your mind nearer the time. You need a bit of time to pass to straight your own head first. I, too, am thinking about you a lot.

BBBee · 03/09/2007 19:16

I am knaclered - school shopping sucks. Had to trawl round 8 shops until found the exact shorts that DD wanted for PE (I had to indulge as she gets worried about things being 'wrong') but went to nice vegetable place and got mangoes, greengages and a lovely cucumber. NIce french man not innnapprotiate innuendo man so that as good.

I had a jacket potatoes with beans and a huge salad for lunch and a huge salad ith pinot beans for supper. Will have greengages soon so think I have made 10.

FrayedKnot · 03/09/2007 19:23

Hello

I can;t believe you all have time to post so much during the day

Cereal with dried fruit
An apple
Salady lunch
Tacos with chili (was meat based with courgettes & kidney beans), spinach

I feel a bit sick atm but sometimes I get that after a big meal. When I feel better I will have some raspberries, and maybe go an row for a few minutes

FrannyandZooey · 03/09/2007 19:42

I have failed to keep up with thread today and am going out tonight

have spent ruddy ages doing stuff with ds and not neglecting him on MN and is the little sod grateful? No he was an arse.

have eaten avocado, beetroot, apple, grapes, strawberries. Plus breakfast and orange juice I reckon I scrape the 10. Don't point it out if I haven't.

Papillon · 03/09/2007 20:26

Shame not to have meet you SauerKraut, dh has relatives in Baden and we were often there.

3andnomore · 03/09/2007 20:32

Toot...those Toilets sound very much like the old fashioned "Plumpsklo" as we used to call it in Germany...basically those were the outdoors loos where there would be a seat , well, a hole in a board that you can sit on, lol, and everything goes, well, just down there ...but don't think they used sawdust...back in the days....they are kind off smelly affairs if I remember correctly....I was "able" to use one as a child, when I stayed with my nan and we would go up to the old watermill, where there wasa public plumpsklo!
and sorry but lol at your son and that rainbowtrout....hopefully the bbq went well.....I love rainbowtrout...best tasting fish, imo
Speedy huhu....you will like it here, I tell ya I love it here anyway Hm about the chocolate cake with beetroot, now, I love raw beetroot juiced, or in bortsh...but in chocolate cake!
Sauerkraut...well, I was talking to dh, and he can be less then enthusiastic at times, you know...and he thought it is a lovely idea How about sometime next spring or summer, so, we have all time to save up some pennies, etc....I think it would a fabulous holiday
Lullaby....aww, sounds you are doing everything right and still get hit with the shit.....I just finished that boolk I taled about earlier, and it is really good and inspiring, the strenght the commitment and well, so muhc personality in the writer....she has a website, too...www.changesimply.com....this woman comes across as truely wonderful, and does things free of charge, by what I can tell in her book....I know her condition was completely different....but, she knows what it is like to be at the other end of things, and getting through it!
Franny....oh, Kids are never darn grateful, lol!
As for the shopping for schoolclothes...why the feck is it so difficult to get black boys schooltrousers size 11/12y...I mean...all the other sizes are there (and so is that exact size in other colours, of course), but I have, over the whole holiday period looked and have only been able to get hold of 2 pais in all..this is sooo bloody pathetic and the exaxt bloody reason I hate school uniforms so much!
Also, been looking since before the Holidays started for little blue school sweaters, and Asda never had them in small sizes, so, ended up spending a tenner on 2 plain blue school sweatshirts, only to walk into Aasda today and find they finally do small sizes and their jumpers are only £1.75....grrrrrrrrr....makes me so so angry...why not do away with school uniform and be happy I say, sigh!
Oh, I am sure tehre was somehting about Avocadoes and what to do with them on the thread at one point...and I must admit, am not the greatest fan of eating avocado in salad, or even as guatemole....however....it's fabulous in smoothies...it adds a lovely creamyness to them!
Anyways....didn't have the planned dinner, had a BBQ instead, and because I didn't fancy salad did have loads of carrotsticks and houmous on side....would also have had cucumber, but ys will turn green now, cos he ate basically one whole cucumber....well, I had one cucumber stick, and ms and es were able to get hold of 2 and the rest went into ys...lol....he is our little carb monstery vegetarian, lol....

Overrun · 03/09/2007 20:33

Hi all, newcomers and oldies salutations. I can't believe this thread is so long already. It is already testing my resolve to not get quite so addicted to MN this time round . I hate missing things you see, but I have done lots of fun things with the dcs today so hurray
An apple, a pear, a banana a big watercress, lettuce and cucumber salad, some more stewed apple, some orange juice and oh yes a tomato with my sandwich at lunch. Not too bad I suppose.
Sorry to about your bad news LL.

So what is all this about a meet up then?

ahundredtimes · 03/09/2007 21:19

3andnomore - do you take a huge, huge breath before you post? I always read your posts incredibly quickly, as though gasping for air at the end.

I have a celeriac. What shall I do with it?

Quite good 10/10 over weekend, rubbish today. Three bananas in the fruit bowl, one celeriac, 4 spring onions. (I always have spring onions festering in my fridge, I don't even remember buying them half the time.)

FrayedKnot · 03/09/2007 21:24

Celeriac makes lovely soup, 100.

Or mash it.

I love celeriac

MrsCarrot · 03/09/2007 21:32

Mmm, make celariac soup and I'll come and eat it! It's so creamy and delicious, especially with loads of black peppper. How was your lid clicking guest?

3andnomore - your posts are quite fast, I always sort of squint at them, blinking quickly.

I've had mixed berries, pear and banana on oats with seeds and soya yoghurt. Ryvitas with ham and salads and this great mustard honey stuff from Waitrose. Salmon baked with diced veg, broccoli and samphire. Grapes, brazils with dates. Apple. I can't be bothered to count but I think it's enough.

ahundredtimes · 03/09/2007 21:33

It looks knobbly FK. What's it like inside then? Like a cabbage? Mash it? Really?

I'm not good at soups.

Overrun · 03/09/2007 21:33

me too Frayedknot
What about chopping it up into smallish pieces and then sauteing them with a clove of garlic and some thyme and then simmer with some veg stock till soft. Thats what I sometimes do with celeriac, I think I got if from jamie oliver
