FAB TITLE BY FMF (AND BBB)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ah they were all little to start with. I can ignore that part.

Boco yes I hope they get it sorted for us. I mean, YOU

Glad it wasn't so bad today, Franny.

BBBee · 18/08/2007 18:02

am so glad today went well F&Z - and as you say only one more to go.

Boco - I am terrible hypochondriac too so is my brother. We like scaring each ohter. A specialist once told me to never google medical symptoms on the internet and he hates it when he knows a patient has been online. I predict your eye thing is nothing and goes on by itself.

Pea soup weather that's for sure. I am feeling a bit poorly so haven't eaten much - I think I had two grapes and some tomato, Lots of self pitying and jumpers.

BBBee · 18/08/2007 18:03

FrayedKnot - I just got your name

boys grow up into bigger boys? what are we talking about?

BBBee · 18/08/2007 18:08

oh thanks avi I forgot about that! I was on about 8 cups (big cups of espresso) and I have gone down to one cup as of today. Maybe that is why I feel crap! No can;t just be that as I have a cold and stuff. I have drank loads of tea.

Wait though - decaff? and I am just addicted to the process? ohhhh - I hadn't thought about that - there is a lot of paraphenalia that goes with my coffee - special containers, stove top espresso thing (3 of them - diff sizes) and certain cups for different times of day and moods - SO it could just be the process!

I pronounce you a genius and give you an honouray PhD Dr. Avi.

Brilliant - will get some tonight.

MrsCarrot · 18/08/2007 19:08

I have just been sick.

I was going to boast about my apple and passionfruit juice with a shot of wheatgrass that I had in town and now I am no picture of health. I am blaming everyone I've seen in the last week and raking over my diet with no clues.

I will stay away so you don't catch it.

BBBee · 18/08/2007 19:41

oh MrsC - poor you. Poor me too - I was supposed to be going out for a meal with my parents and sister at this lovely Indian - have been loooking forward to it for ages adn I have been feeling sick all day and have had to phone and tell them to go without me.

Am all grumpy now but going to look at the times edinburgh site to cheer me up.

FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2007 19:57

Oh poor ill people Wishing you a quick recovery

I hope nobody minds me saying this (I always seem to be saying this about one thing or another) but I know that one poster on here has emetophobia (fear of what you two have) and would probably rather we didn't talk about it in detail. We are a sensitive bunch

BBB giving up caffeine can make you feel absolutely grim. It is vital to cut down slowly or you can feel virusy for about a week. I read an article once that said a high proportion of people's unpleasant symptoms when in hospital is down to caffeine withdrawal! Will try to find links.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2007 20:01

Caffeine withdrawal recognised as mental disorder

can't find the one on hospital stays

OP posts:
BBBee · 18/08/2007 20:09

OMFG!

"10 symptoms were validated for caffeine withdrawal: headache, fatigue, drowsiness, decreased contentedness, depressed mood, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and foggy/not-clearheaded. Also, flulike symptoms, nausea/vomiting, and muscle pain/stiffness were judged likely to represent valid symptom categories."

am off to mess around on caffine intake calculators and read all the links - thank F&Z

FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2007 20:13

Yes I thought you would be surprised

It knocks you for six, you feel like you're coming down with flu

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 18/08/2007 20:39

Yes, I understand that, I've have had CBT for similar things, was a thoughtless post. Sorry.

FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2007 20:48

No no I think it was fine MrsC

I just know sometimes we get a little graphic describing things on here well I do anyway

I think mentioning it is fine, I didn't meant to tick you off or anything

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/08/2007 20:48

Are you feeling any better?

OP posts:
BBBee · 18/08/2007 21:30

I still feel crap nad cold.

How is your eye boco?

Anyone know how zippi is?

BBBee · 18/08/2007 21:31

we have a rowan tree in our gardewn and I might make some rowan and crab apple jelly tomorrow as it is that kind of weather.

Has anyone ever eaten rowan berry jelly? If so and it is horrible tell me and I won't bother!

TooTicky · 18/08/2007 22:42

MrsC, have you had wheatgrass before? Apparently it can cause upsets in people who aren't used to it. This fact has put me off trying it. Hope you feel better soon.

Boco, hope your eye sorts itself out without you having to do anything drastic like give up MN.

I gave up coffee about 12 years ago. It wasn't a deliberate thing - I just found I didn't want it any more. No withdrawal symptoms or owt.

Have eaten rather well today Discovery apple. Soup containing onion, lentils, courgette, carrot, turnip, chard and potato. Cake containing greengages, orange, banana and ginger. Stir fry with onion, courgette, carrot, chard, bamboo, bean sprouts, mushrooms and braised tofu. Have been snacking on grapes and raw peas.

We should start up another site and make her jealous.

FrannyandZooey · 19/08/2007 09:33

I was not, I was sleeping. Have slept from about 10 pm to 9 am, was fab. Staying up late with you lot is a BAD idea for me

Now you know how I feel at 6.30 pm when I almost always have MN time and there is never any bugger on here.

Am eating pear, grapes, nectarine, raisins, blueberries.

My parents are coming [conflicted]

Toot - Thanks so much for that tip. I have not had wheatgrass before. I had felt a a bit dizzy earlier in the day (not unusual) but come to think of it it would have within an hour of the juice that I was unwell. I have just looked it up and it is such a strong detoxifier that the body can't always take the release in to the blood stream.

I want it to be that. I have a mighty phobia about catching germs to the point of excessive avoidance so I was VERY upset about it, virtually scrubbing out friends name from addresss books that I'd seen in the last few days.

ANYWAY - I feel a lot better today but have that weird weak limb/crampy middle feeling.

Franny - I'm so pleased it went better yesterday, I thought of you. The end is in sight! Hope you have a nice day with your parents. I'm always tempted to say good luck but then I forget that some people have normal relationships.

Boco - Your poor eye. There must be some other way to make it better rather than avoiding us. I looked at your fuck off btw, and it seems to be very tongue in cheek to me, in fact, someone says, won't that upset Boco and they say, no she has a good sense of humour and then they go on to say how funny you are etc etc so I wouldn't worry about it.

BBBee - How about I e-mail you my mobile number and then if we see something great we can text each other about it? If it was just us going to the festival it would be fun to try and meet up but I think as we are staying with friends it might be a bit hectic. That's assuming you'd want to of course! Are you excited? I like rowanberry jelly btw, I think it's nice with pork and some cheese.

Aviatrix - Did you get sucked in to that thread? There are loads I stay away from. People are so angry sometimes. I am longing to hear more about wooden purchases, you are being very secretive.
