FAB TITLE BY FMF (AND BBB)

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

at the idea of changing mooncup in public. I haven't had to change one out and about yet (don't get out much ) but if there is nobody else needing it, go in a disabled toilet - they have a little sink.

Have eaten an apple. Could do with salad but am tired.

I think DS is more into this 10/10 malarky than me. Yesterday he polished off an entire slice of melon, and today an entire Victoria plum. He has only really taken to solids in the past fortnight (in spite of me proffering choice morsels since 6 months). I cut some sweetcorn off the cob I boiled tonight and he valiantly tried to pincer grip it, got it to his mouth then it jumped away and made its escape. The look on his face was priceless, as if he thought, "b*gger this for a game of soldiers", bent his head and hoovered the rest straight from the high chair tray. Resourceful little chap. We are friends again, I had a nap with him this afternoon and feel slightly more human after the sleep.
I want to talk about deliciously reckless spending of large sums of money - Aviatrix, I have now read about your deliberations, have you chosen the kitchen or the jumbo amazing box thingy? I find Holz Toys excellent in their service but all their products are quite expensive - often the same thing can be got slightly cheaper elsewhere eg Myriadonline or Laughing Bear Toys, both also on the web.

Mooncup Monologues - excellent 100x

Avi, never mind about TMI. I tend to avoid changing the mooncup in public if I can. But when I have to, I have either used a cubicle with a sink, or just taken it out emptied and reinserted without rinsing or wiping (rinsing it properly when I get home.)

I love talking about periods and mooncups me.

of Franny in Londres and very of MrsC going to Edinburgh! When are you going MrsC?

Possum I have a true 10/10 ds too! The other day he ate 2 nectarines and a plum all in one go! It is lovely having a nap with them isn't it?

oh god is MrsC going to Edinburgh? Why do I not cognaitvely process any of this thread when I read it!

When are you going MrsC?

Are you doing festival stuff?

I am going 20-26th aug. Would love any festival show tips - with or without children.

BTW Mrs C have been thinking about you and your wheat thing. When do you find out? I made a lovely cous cous salad tongiht and you can have that. also all the BBQ apart from bread rolls. I once made my BiL some wheat free brownies for his birthdya and they were lvoely. You can have sushi too!

Tatties - you need to clarfiy that you are talknig about a public toilet not in public! Mooncup does make you desperate to discuss the mystery of the menstural cycle.

100x - for germany on tuesday I have a pathetic email print out nad nothing else - will they really let me on a plane with this?!?

yes I am hurrah hurrah!

though I know that I will wistfully walk around remembering days pre-children when I saw 11 shows in a day and got drunk and saw stuff into the wee small hours...

Actually cous-cous IS wheat, BBBee, so I can't have it but I can have quinoi in it's place. Thanks for thinking of me though

DH and I are just discussing Edinburgh now. We are hoping to go 23-26 just catching the end of the festival but he has to check tomorrow with work. Also, our friends that we are visiting don't take their babies on flights as he is a pilot/captain and doesn't think young children should fly. We REALLY don't fancy another long haul drive but it's the fact that he thinks this when he's in the business that is a little unsettling. Less than an hour to get there though, it's tempting but bloody expensive. He also gets a bit wheezy so, oh I don't know, it keeps going round in my mind.

I like the mooncup talk, I feel like I am familiarising myself with it in advance though I get a weird shudder when I think of breaking the suction similar to watching people licking yoghurt tops.

MrsC, don't want to pry, but am curious - is coeliac disease something one is born with or is it triggered later on? How long have you felt poorly for and suspected something was wrong?
Have a bizarre image of TooTicky sitting down with a knife and fork to entire an entire melon on her own
Tatties, DS has slept with us since birth - he is a very well mannered bed companion, doesn't kick or mattress hog, love the gorgeous snuffling sounds, sighs and squeaks when he is in deep sleep. Couldn't have b'fed for so long without co-sleeping.

oooh, Avi, was it sort of a Carrie moment?

Report
MrsCarrot · 12/08/2007 22:21

Avi - yes, I am going to ring and ask again shortly

Possum - Apparently you are born with in but it can be triggered. From my teens I have suffered digestively though I always thought it was yeast rather than wheat but now that I exclude it, it's both I think, though with yeast it's doubly bad, bread beer etc. I don't think I am ceoliac as I tolerate oats very well and rye in small doses. If it is positive I have to avoid gluten for life. If it's negative I can carry on as I am, presumably just being wheat intolerant. Important to know though as gluten is actually damaging the bowel in ceoliacs.

MrsC, thanks, that's interesting, I think there is a lot more food intolerance around than people might realise. I suspect I've been intolerant of cow's milk all my life but somehow just put up with the constant sneezing and runny nose until my late 20s when I thought to give goat's milk a try.
Then I thought, "why didn't I do this years ago?"
I gave up wheat and dairy for a while as I thought they might be triggers for DS's eczema, nothing improved for him and I felt quite ill from such a restricted diet. I think it takes a lot of discipline and imagination to eat well when so much food seems 'banned'. I really respect vegans for that reason. A vegan friend eats far better than I do, truly amazing meals, complex colours and textures, every day, where as I (lacto-ovo vegetarian) merely grab a piece of cheese and a hunk of bread. Lazy moi, that's my problem. Which is why I'm hanging out on this thread hoping for boot camp to shape me up in every sense of the word

Done - did you get it, oh dear, this could go the way of Franny/Greeny e-mail saga

Possum - I find I feel much better on a dairy and wheat free diet, also it really does help my LO'S symptoms so it's worth it. If it made you ill and didn't help, at least you tried. How is their excema now? I am hoping to be able to move on to goats at some point as I feel I may turn into an extended feeder this time round and I miss cheese. There are always plenty of interesting recipes on this thread too.

MrsC, maybe i should have another go at the dairy/wheat free thing but properly, workign hard to widen my diet. DS still has bad eczema flare ups, I'm at a loss what triggers them. I would probably lose weight too which would be an added bonus. DS was born with clubfoot and it has been quite a long, lonely struggle this past year (toes to groin plaster casts then 23 hours a day metal-soled heavy boots, now the boots just at night and naps, many tears, his and mine) so exhaustion and anxiety have depleted my energy stores for cooking properly and looking after myself.
Do let us know what your friend says abouit children and flying.
