A satsuma in the toe of your stocking - 10/10 club getting ready for Christmas

A new thread as requested. For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Does shouting at my children and tearing my hair out count as exercise?

I eat my 10/10

FrannyandZooey · 27/11/2006 21:47

I don't think anyone actually does both exercise and fruit eating on a regular basis on here, oo

if you would like to come and brag about your vegetable consumption we will all clap you on the back and be nice to you

do join in if you like, it is a friendly thread

I LOVE the title this week Franny

I have eaten loads of fruit and veg today!!! (and some stuff that wasn't fruit and veg too) And I walked up the hill to town and back with the pushchair, which I think counts as exercise.

Is it possible to be on this thread and my dysfunctional eaters thread? I do fulfil the criteria for both, usually

Tatties · 27/11/2006 22:01

Thanks for the new thread Franny Can I pop a lovely shiny red apple in the stocking too please?

Trinityrhino · 27/11/2006 22:03

Hmmmm the exercise may be a problem at the mo, my spd is making it hard to walk to be honest

actually even lying in bed isn't very comfortable so could I try and do the food bit at the mo please?

FrannyandZooey · 27/11/2006 22:08

Awww

Tatties, dp always had an apple too, we just had a satsuma and chocolate money....oh and a fiver

Greeny you are quite healthy in a dysfunctional kind of way and you are always welcome here anyway

hello there - can I join in? need some focus to eat more fruit and veg - usually manage 5 but would love to up it (does it matter if more fruit consumed than veg?)

FrannyandZooey · 27/11/2006 22:41

Dinny please make yourself at home

You can eat whatever proportion of fruit and veg you like but apparently for optimum health we believe it should be more veg

this is my current challenge, to increase my vegetable intake. I am doing quite well I think, better than last month.

OP posts:
SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 27/11/2006 22:46

Ah, but are you counting tomatoes, cucumber and peppers as veg? Because they are in fact fruit

dinny · 27/11/2006 22:57

how many carrots are a portion? is there a link to potion size or can someone quickly enlighten me??? cheers! just had two apples instead of one, feeling smug.

Trinityrhino · 27/11/2006 22:58

I am going to admit that I have just realised that the only fruit and veg I have eaten today was a large handful of grapes definitely need to be on this thread

thanks aviatirx, will look at that later, I have just eaten a bananaa and I'm thinking about how ti eat more veg at luchtime which is when I usually never have veg

morning all

FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2006 08:47

Morning everyone

trinity, veg at lunchtime is definitely the key to the whole thing IMO

The only way I like to eat them then, is to have chunks of raw veg to dip in something - I like hummus, sour cream and 100 island.

Have just shared a mango with ds. God it was messy.

10?? is it really possible to eat that much fruit/veg? what do you havce to do, graze all day?

FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2006 09:02

Well, it's easiest to eat a few portions with each meal I suppose. A lot of us have fruit with our breakfast and then fruit for snacks during the day, then a vegetable / pulse based dinner. If you have some salad / veg soup with your lunch it is quite easy to go over 10 - maybe we should have an Extreme Veg Eating thread and go for 15

Do you feel like having a go, N Galore? At the 10, I mean, we will break you in gently at first...

OP posts:
NappiesGaloreQueenofFaffing · 28/11/2006 09:06

ooh, yes. break me in gently. i like the sound of that.

i have NO excuse for not exercising either

am about to start that lifecoaching for mothers thing to see if she can motivate my lazy butt to work out...

NappiesGaloreQueenofFaffing · 28/11/2006 09:10

am now eating a banana and two satsumas for brek. is that 3?

FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2006 09:10

Oh excellent! Good for you! Well we will give you a gentle and nurturing kick up the bum too. What do you normally have for breakfast? Have you eaten it?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2006 09:12

Cross posts

the portion guides are in the link aviatrix posted at 6.23 today

2 satsumas is probably 1 portion but we will call it 1.5

you can count beans and pulses for at least one portion per day, plus dried fruit, and fruit juice

go easy if it's radically different to what you usually eat or you will be cursing us from the privacy of your toilet tomorrow

NappiesGaloreQueenofFaffing · 28/11/2006 15:25

ok Fran so far ive had the 2 portions for brekkie (banana and two sats) and lunch of omelette w spinach, onion, garlic, tomato, and red pepper (i ate about 2 servings...does that count as two, miss?) and a glass of juice with it.
which comes to about 5 servings... am having a 'dregs of the fridge before vegbox delivery tomorrow' dinner of cabbage, avocado, bacon, celeriac (i think. what do i do witht hat anyway?)

anyhoo. im waffling. dont think ill make it to 10 tho.
