A new thread as requested. For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Trinity that is pretty good isn't it? How are you doing today?

i know someone who has tits like two satsumas in a pair of socks... was that your reference point?

am interested in doing your thing, but don't know if i am sufficiently organised.

AitchTwoOh · 30/11/2006 13:34

also, those of you who have been doing it for a while... any effects? other than explosive diaorrhea?

FrannyandZooey · 30/11/2006 13:43

Good afternoon Aitch and thank you for your refined contribution to the thread

I feel better, more energy, my skin is very clear and my digestive system runs like a well oiled machine

You may have explosive results at first but if you work up gradually it should be ok. What's to be organised about? You have to eat something, don't you? What do you usually eat?

i'm a bit of a grazer, really. some sultana bran in the morning, a sarnie or soup for lunch and something meaty or pasta-y or potatoey for dinner. that's if i eat all three. haven't eaten yet, for example. dd has, i should say.
Supermarkets give me the heebs so i tend to buy as i go along. used to get an organic box but it was too depressing in the winter (turnip surprise, anyone?)

hmm, letting the side down I'm afraid, only
managed brocolli and a tomato today, sorry

AitchTwoOh · 30/11/2006 18:22

well, when i say grazing... i mean that i don't often get those three meals. i have now eaten a chewit and a toffee crisp, however. and some home-made chicken soup.

Aitch-Queen-of-BLW in Crap Food Shocker

So are you basically saying that because you are busy with dd, you don't actually sit down and eat proper meals, but end up cruising around pecking at junk instead?

Do you want us to get tough with you, or does the stern approach not go down well chez Aitch?

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 30/11/2006 19:59

actually today has been particularly bad, DH has been puking and pooing all over the place for the last 24 hours (yes, that's right, i said DH).
so i've been doing A LOT of sympathising and getting water and cleaning up of vom buckets etc etc etc. and i think dd is coming down with it too, she's been grumpy and has had a couple of nasty nappies.

so i haven't really featured much in the pecking order. i've got some chicken and lemon in the oven, going to have it with some peas and possibly a baked potato (but it will have to be started in the microwave as i've just realised that i've forgotten to put it in the oven).

i have had some home-made chicken soup made from my own stock and containing barley, onion, carrots and celery. they count, you know...

AitchTwoOh · 30/11/2006 20:02

and might i direct you to have a look at the blog where Enid has sent in a recipe for 'umble pie as her dd is now refusing to be spoon fed... mwAH-ahaha.

(okay, so she very graciously sent in her chicken nuggets recipe in fact. and she allowed me a tiny gloat as well. she's a good sort.)

FrannyandZooey · 30/11/2006 21:17

Sorry to hear about DP. I had to read it a couple of times to check it wasn't dd who was ill again.

Enid is fab; me and HC regularly email her asking her to adopt us.

Ok here are my top tips for Busy People:

frozen veg, it is just as nutritious or arguably sometimes more so, and takes 2 mins to cook

fruit as a snack - the ultimate convenience food - comes in its own wrapper and ready to eat

dried fruit for a snack as a change - raisins, apricots, prunes, dates.

I think you should also have a sliced banana or something on your sultana bran, make veg / veg and lentil / bean and veg soup instead of chicken

and just add 2 or 3 more portions as a side dish to whatever you are cooking in the evening

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 30/11/2006 21:22

does dried fruit count?

i managed about 6 or 7 yesterday, 8-ish day before, but today not so great. have had all 3 babbies all to myslef all day long, so quite pleased to be alive really, if not particularly well fed

Papillon · 01/12/2006 07:08

Morning

Anyone ever make mouse traps??

I made some last night but instead of marmite it was a mix of beetroot, brocolli, carrot and courgette as the spread

Very cheeky way to slip the vege in the mouths of babes

FrannyandZooey · 01/12/2006 08:08

Mouse traps? Marmite? What are you on about?

Louche Woman, hello, I don't think I've seen you before or are you one of our regulars with a new raunchy name?

Dried fruit counts as 1 when you are eating 5 portions a dy, so I reckon it can count as 2 when you are eating 10. Ditto juice, and beans / pulses / lentils.

OP posts:
Papillon · 01/12/2006 08:32

I am being mysterious and luring you into my mouse trap

its bread, marmite and melted cheese.... or grilled cheese with marmite for any americans lurking

I buzzed up the babys vege after it was steamed, and used it instead of the marmite

Is that clear?

Papillon · 01/12/2006 08:52

oh, and off to my first ever Pilates class at the gym this morning.

Papillon · 01/12/2006 10:41

fabulous, Pilates cancelled - think I will ring before I try next time.

Am wondering if the title of this thread is luring lots of people in... the getting ready for Christmas. Trim up before we all blow out!!

Nice to see you here again btw FMF

Overrunnerbean · 01/12/2006 10:47

Hi all, am recovering from only eating sandwhiches for two days, so its catch up time. Just as a predicatable side, the hospital food was atrocious. A nurse who was observing dt1 chow down on satsumas and bananas said, oh he wont' have any room for lunch. Lunch when it came consisted of a cheap sausage (you can just tell can't you) and chewy chips.
Anyway the op went really well, so am pleased to have got that over with.
Actually just realised that I have no actual fruit and veg consumption to report today so will slink off

Papillon · 01/12/2006 10:59

Have not been around much either Overrun and missed that you have been off in hospital. So glad the operation went well and that your ds is more interested in the fruit than the scary sausage!
