A satsuma in the toe of your stocking - 10/10 club getting ready for Christmas

A new thread as requested. For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Pushing toddler bike deffo counts. Upper body conditioning and cardio

Hate sprouts, but they are compulsory at our house on Christmas Day, so yes, lets be avin the recipe.

I am going out drinking this afternoon - I know, get me, so healthy eating and excercise are both out of window. I am currently sitting in dressing gown and velcro rollers. (just thought you would want to know that).

suzycreamcheese · 17/12/2006 17:16

strangetown..sleep ..er lately I dont! was ill for three weeks and have so much to do..paying for it now but no chance of baby nap ..was wrapping all my pressies last night and finishing dvd film gifts we made..time consuming but good pressie option for skint folks..
liked the image in rollers putting lippy on for the pub you lucky so in so..

i do actually love brussels and it doesnt seem right without them at christmas..should put one in ds stocking just to be different..sleep deprived cackle... think most people hate them cause they are usually over cooked
right am cutting the waffle now, no credit for me for this one (pinched from newspaper)but typing all my own!

brussels w/ ginger and tomato
serving 6
400g b sprouts
1 tbsp olive oil
1 red onion, thin sliced
2 cloves garlic
1 fresh chilli seeded and finely sliced
1 tbsp fresh ginger
3 tomatoes, halved & thickly sliced
1 tbsp soy sauce

peel outer leaves from sprouts, half any large sprouts
bring pot of water to boil and drop them in for 30 seconds, remove
heat tablespoon of oil in wide pan, add sprouts and red onion; cook over medium high heat for 2 mins; add garlic, chilli, ginger. after another minute add toms and soy sauce and cook for five mins, add splash of water if it appears slightly dry

might not go w/ trad dinner but we had it w savoy cabbage timbale of leeks, chestnut thing (also from paper) on boxing day and was really nice and light too.

StrangeTown · 18/12/2006 10:22

Holly ah, same thing happened to me last week, just done big bean soup and saw the carrot coriander one..
if no rush then i'll tap it in tomorrow..need some sleep..just to keep you tempted it does come with side kick 'rosemary aioli' ..is that your thing? infact am going to be packing this recipe when i go to MIL i want some now too..

suzycreamcheese · 20/12/2006 10:29

not much action on this thread guys, we'll never get franny back in at this rate!!

okay, here goes for celeraic fritters, rosemary aioli, since the demand was deafening..actually was wondering why didnt do it more often as i love celeraic ..its a bit of a faff but worth it for special occasion...

2 sprigs rosemary
300ml olive oil
5 cloves garlic, roasted peeled
2 egg yolks
1/2 tsp hot mustard
1/2 juice of lemon
600g celeraic (after peeling)
200g breadcrumbs, w/ little bit of dill & seasoning added
plain flour
2 eggs
200ml milk

aioli:
rosemary in pan w/ 100ml olive oil, heat gently for minute, remove from heat leave for 30 mins to infuse, add remaining oil, seive out rosemary (dont hurt her though!)
blend garlic, egg yolks & mustard in food processer for about minute then begin to drizzle in rosemary oil; continue to add oil slowly til aoili has thickish dip like consistency. check flavour, adding salt, pepper to your taste, and add some / all of lemon juice to your liking.
peel celeraic, slice into 1cm thick wedges, boil in pan till just tender (6-8 mins ish)
whisk together eggs & milk, coat celeraic in flour then egg/milk mix then breadcrumbs.
Deep fry fritters at 170 degrees F until crips lightly brown.

er, will be back in week or so..have great festivey time and can we agree that chocolate oranges will count for this week only

StrangeTown · 20/12/2006 22:36

Oh Suzy you have some very glam recipes - sounds professional. Think it might send my DH into meltdown at the moment, we have a deal, I do baking and he does everything else.
Still doing rubbish - only 4 portions today! Good news about the Choc Oranges though - might manage to get to 5 with that tomorrow. Only excercise has been mad hour running round Trafford Centre - grim.

Hope everyone else is OK.

suzycreamcheese · 20/12/2006 23:36

basking in your praise...but should admit that past two are pinched from paper am afraid..i do make up my own things too to the despair of dp, as i like subsituting / changing things to keep me interested..
give your bloke some of that chocolate orange girl, he sounds a good 'un, like a man who knows his way round the kitchen...
