**OUCH! BITTEN NIPPS THAT SWELL UP?***

VoodooBanana · 15/11/2006 13:56

Good lordie, dd had a cold which got her so frustrated as she couldnt breathe to feed that she chomped on my poor nipp, which has now swelled up into a weird white bump/blister thing and is agony to feed from.

She did it a few weeks ago to the same one, and a blood blister appeared at the tip, which disappeared after a few days of very very careful feeds.

But when I feed her she gets distracted by the slightest noise, eg me sneezing, dh coughing on other side of room, and whips her head round while still attatched. Apart from feeding her in a soundproofed box how the heck do I stop her?

She also tugs very hard on the left one, but is an angel on the right?

Any ideas?????????????
ps she is 4.5mths and I am stopping bf at xmas probably...if I can put up with this pain till then!
tar for your help

why thankyou!! as suggested by you
hows the boob doing?

jennster · 21/11/2006 16:55

Nipple confusion at 4.5 months? Don't thinks so. May be at 4.5 days and even 4.5 weeks...... DD got nipple savvy at 4.5 months. She had a bottle of expressed milk as her last feed from about 8 weeks. She took it fine, and then at 4.5 months flatly refused it. She is a little tinker though. I had to force her onto a bottle 3 times and still won't take it from me.

VoodooFig · 21/11/2006 18:36

the boob is letting me express, thank god! I thought it was about to pop for a moment back there...

the penicilin is making dd do huge dark green poos, strange but interesting, I guess,

Jennster you need an xmas name too, howabout
RudolphTheRedNosedJennster
JingleJennster

my dd is a 'sowenso' too, my mum always says 'that child knows exactly what shes doing' in a deep tutting voice when dd bites me and then grins cutely.

ScroogeMacDog · 21/11/2006 19:01

Good luck with expressing!
Hope your nipp heals soon!

jennster · 21/11/2006 19:10

I've posted as JennstarOfWonder but thought it a little early so was going to wait 'til Dec 1st. Like the names though. Might change my mind.

VoodooFig · 21/11/2006 22:38

maccydee
your name reminds me of scrooge macduck, cousin of the little boy ducks.
random eh!

VoodooFig · 22/11/2006 12:39

ha ha ha (evil laugh) just had lots of fun terrifying my NCT group with tales of pus-ing rotten nipples!!!

although really, it is a lot better and I am even managing to do the odd feed out of it...

ScroogeMacDog · 22/11/2006 13:54

Well spotted on the name front Voodoo!
Nice to hear the pus-ridden nipple getting an airing (so to speak)
Glad that you're still feeding.
How's everyone else?

VoodooFig · 22/11/2006 19:40

btw, I am loving that we have our own private nipple support group, for abused nipples.

we need a 12 step plan.

  1. acknowledge the problem
  2. stand up and shout it out!
  3. see a doctor.....
etc
worleywinterwonderland · 22/11/2006 19:59

i managed to express nearly 3 oz tofay, thats good going for me, its gone straight in the feezer ready for when i have to start back at the dreaded work!!
my nipps arent doing too bad today. i have been using lots of lansioh ( or whatever its called) and it seemes to do the trick. glad your nipps are getting there. hope youre all ok!

VoodooFig · 22/11/2006 20:01

well done worley! do you get hand ache like me!!

I find it is easier to xpress in the pm/evening! It is a tricky balancing act to feed dd on the right and express at the same time off the left, but that is when I get the most milk out.

cant wait till she is a year old so can stop sterilising the sippy cups etc

worleywinterwonderland · 22/11/2006 20:06

hi ya,
i have been finding it easier in the mornings, once iv dropped ds1 at school we come straight home and then we can sit and feed from the left express from the right while i watch the wright stuff.!! my dp hates it so only get to watch it whiles hes not around. it does take me ages to get that out, although it seems to pour out at first then it dries up, i tried to mimic what ds2 does, how suckles then waits etc, not sure if thats how to go or not, but i do get hand ache yes!!

VoodooFig · 22/11/2006 20:39

the wright stuff is better than the godawful jeremy kyle, that show is a trainwreck. Chavs and their disgusting drugtaking issues, all ringmastered by that horrible tabloid-talking smug pretentious posturing pseudo-caring git.

ScroogeMacDog · 22/11/2006 20:51

Roll up!! Roll up!!
Ladies I give you a luvverly solution to all your milk expressing woes
Niiiiiiiice!!

VoodooFig · 22/11/2006 21:04

jimminy cricket that will go down well at the disco...do they do it in black, I wonder...

worleywinterwonderland · 22/11/2006 21:06

hi scrooge just looked at your link, i wasnt sure if i should laugh or not? has anyone tried that? it looks kinda funny!! it reminds me of those hats that you used to be able to get years ago with the cans of drink on and a straw hanging down to your mouth!

worleywinterwonderland · 22/11/2006 21:11

i love the wright show!! cant stand the jeremy kyle or any of those programs too, once many many years ago i was an audience member on the vanessa show, it was sooo funny, we didnt dare ask any questions though. we only went as they rang us up and wanted people on. ( plus a paid afternoon off work!, bigger bonus)

ScroogeMacDog · 22/11/2006 22:45

Never mind if it comes in black, I wanna know if they personalise it.
You know: Daisy, Buttercup, Ermintrude etc.

Doesn't it look a bit agricultural ?

VoodooFig · 23/11/2006 15:29

worley I am shocked!! the NHS paid for you to go on the Vanessa show??!!!

yes, Macdog, I think Ermintrude would be the most suitable, wonder who buys those things...
I bet someone on MN has one!

VoodooFig · 23/11/2006 15:34

I have issues with >> Jeremy Kyle

worleywinterwonderland · 24/11/2006 16:07

the nhs wouldnt pay for that!!!. youre lucky if you get your wage slip on time at my hospital. many years ago before i had ds1 i trained as a veterinary nurse and they were talking about people who loved their pets too much, so i went with one of the vets. ( she also gave up the proff and is now a primary school teacher at my ds1s school, so parents eve will be fun if he goes in to her class)

ScroogeMacDog · 24/11/2006 16:18

I don't watch any of them as I just end up shouting at the telly at all the numbnuts!!!
dd being nice to me at moment and back to sleeping for longer again, not before ruddy time!
{{hugs}} to the sore nipple club

worleywinterwonderland · 25/11/2006 21:37

do you have a hand pump/expressor? im wondering if thats why i cant seem to get to much out and maybe a battery expressor is the way to ? i've got the tommy tipee one but not really gettign on with it. Do you have any tips to make it easier or get more out?

jennster · 25/11/2006 21:56

The received wisdom is to have a picture of your bubs to help your let down reflex. I found a sudoku or a crossword helps loads more. I also have an Ameda Lactaline. I assumed the increased volume (compared to my Avent Isis hand pump)was because I was getting better at it, but I had a day off and left my electric one at work and the difference was unbelievable.

ScroogeMacDog · 25/11/2006 23:08

I had Avent isis (manual) as well.
I found that swapping from side to side when milk slowed helped me get more in total.
Warm cloth on the boobs is also supposed to help.
I've not expressed for a while though
