And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

Rachaelboo · 10/06/2012 03:47

Oh no. Dont worry. Has she just been admitted?

StopEatingThatMud · 10/06/2012 03:50

No we came via out of hours gp about 6pm but got the diagnosis an hour or two ago. I think its just sinking in.

She's on iv fluids and antibiotics but its a waiting game. They've mentioned potential hearing loss and developmental problems...I don't know what that means?

How terrifying, poor you and poor DD.

My DD was in hospital with meningitis at 8 weeks. She pulled through and is now a cheeky 10 month old (who still likes to feed at 4am!) I well remember the fear, but honestly your DD is in the right place.

What is her name? I can say a little prayer for her if you like.

twojumpingbeans · 10/06/2012 03:51

Hand holding! She is in the best place, really hope she gets better very very soon. ((((((((hug))))))))

humblebumble · 10/06/2012 03:55

I know nothing about menegitis. Just holding your hand.

empirestateofmind · 10/06/2012 03:55

Poor DD and poor you. I hope she is better very soon. Are you able to stay with her?

Don't forget to try to get some rest- you must be exhausted.

peggyblackett · 10/06/2012 03:55

Hand holding here too. Sending lots of healing vibes.

TapirBackRider · 10/06/2012 03:57

Holding your hand & sending (((hugs))) to you and your loved ones.

Rachaelboo · 10/06/2012 04:01

How old is your little girl?

She is In the best place possible and they will look after her at the hospital. I am sure she will make a full recovery. Try nt to think of thoughts of the worst case scenario. Many recover fully from it.

Try not to panic if you can and I know it's hard but try and rest, you need to keep your strength up for her.

Naoko · 10/06/2012 04:01

I have a friend who had meningitis as a small child and who suffered partial hearing loss because of it. It has never held him back in any way - he went to university, he did great, he found a good job, he is happy. I hope your little one comes out of this with no ill effect whatsoever, but you asked what it meant - so I hope that helps a little. Thinking healing thoughts.

StopEatingThatMud · 10/06/2012 04:01

32notout thank you, it helps to hear she could be fine, has your dd had any related problems? I'm not normally one for prayers but I'll take any offers of kindness going right now, I don't know why but her actual name makes it too real, let's stick with B.

And thank you everyone else too, dp is here with us but he's struggling too I think, not that he'd say it!

Xposted with a few of you, she's just turned one.

Naoko thank you, I appreciate your honesty. I think its the vague developmental problems description that's panicking me most. Just out of fear of having no idea what it actually means.

LemonEmmaP · 10/06/2012 04:05

Hand holding too. Hope she's on the mend soon.

maras2 · 10/06/2012 04:14

I'm here too. Mx.

IdontknowwhyIcare · 10/06/2012 04:23

Big hugs and positive vibes for both of you. xxxx Be brave for her, she wont want her mum to be looking worried. You can do it, for her. good luck to both of you.

MammaTJ · 10/06/2012 04:28

My friends little boy was in hospital last year with it. He got better and is now doing well, no hearing loss or anything even though they were given all sorts of worst case scenarios.
Making tea as others here are holding your hands and I want to do something

empirestateofmind · 10/06/2012 04:34

How scary for all of you.

.

Thankfully, meningitis is something I have no experience of, but I do know the hideousness of having a poorly child in hospital very well.

I have everything crossed for a speedy recovery for your beautiful daughter. Take good care of her and yourself.

AWomanCalledHorse · 10/06/2012 05:15

Fingers are crossed here for a fast recovery.

Hello my DS2 had viral meningitis at 8 days old and we were fortunate that he only spent 4 days in the icu. Have they said whether it us viral or bacterial? I guess they can't tell until they have cultured the lumbar puncture stuff (sorry can't for the life of me think of the right term).

Hope you've managed to get some rest. Picu is the best place for your dd right
