And I'm really really scared.

Is anyone up to hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

more positive thoughts and well wishes from me. It must be a very scary time but lots of positive stories of recovery on here.
I also know several people, children and adults, who have made full recoveries from this.

Another one with no experience, but sending you lots of love and strength.

Also, statistics mean nothing to the individual, so please don't frighten yourself with Doctor Google!

I hope things are a little brighter this afternoon.

My DD had viral meningitis when she was 6 and it was one of the most terrifying times of my life. She had several hearing tests after her recovery but, thankfully, all was fine (although now she is a teen she does a good impression of not hearing me!). The only thing which changed was her temperature control - she never felt the cold before she was ill, but was always moaning about it afterwards.

The anti-bios should kick in quickly. Fingers crossed for you all x

IsabelArcher · 10/06/2012 13:29

So sorry for you and your DD.

My DD1 had meningitis when she was 3, she's now 18, but I can still cry about it now in fact filling up typing this. She is now completely fine, it's possible her hearing was affected but not enough that it can really be attributed to it.

To my shame all she remembers of that time is me crying while they tried toget a lumbar puncture in and telling me not to! If I could change anything, apart from her not having caught it in the first place, is to have followed the nurses' advice and not been there while they did it.

Oh and she remembers not being able to play in the sand pit outside the ward because of her candula!

I would also suggest you consider some form of counselling when you have her home again. I was offered some but didnt take it up. I really wish I had.
