Hi, Im Charliecat, Ive been off the fags for just over a year and these smoking threads on mumsnet have helped me stay off the fags for this long, without them im not sure i wouldnt be at the backdoor smoking right now...please join.
Hoping everyone else will come and introduce themselves after me

I've been more of an addict to these threads than to smoking for a few months now thank goodness. I started quitting mid-May and have had a few hiccups but I haven't bought a pack since I started quitting, just had an odd slip-up with someone else's. I used to smoke, at my pre-pregnancy worst, up to 30-a-day but was on 5-10 a day at the point of quitting.

notasheep · 11/01/2006 21:08

Stopped, started, stopped, started and now with fantastic support from Mums net have stopped again with a view to not starting AGAIN

Mums Net support is really helping me through the
ugh times!

kleist · 11/01/2006 22:59

Is this the end of introductions then?

Can I ask how your enormous chest is, cc?

nota, I've been a serial starter/stopper too over the years. It means that even a couple of years down the line I'll never quite believe I've succeeded as my longest quit was about 3 years ... All that wasted time and money since then ...

notasheep · 12/01/2006 07:55

YES! I have still got to beat my 3 year record.

I know i am on here and need to get dd and ds sorted out-and i have a work meeting today which is soooooooo depressing

charliecat · 12/01/2006 18:20

Do you really wanna know kliest? its an e cup anyway
How on earth do you go back back to smoking after 3 years off of them? Is it really the oh, just one syndrome? Cant personally imagine doing that stone cold sober...OMG Imagine........HORRIFIC AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Introductions over it seems, back to usual chit chat

I mean that's how I started again after the 3 year quit. The shorter quits were more to do with me getting stressed and thinking a pack of fags would get me over the bad times without my becoming addicted again ...

charliecat · 12/01/2006 19:04

Bet you have one of those fab long thin bodys I dream of.sigh, never happy up woman are we. Think fat spaniel ears tucked into bra BTW

OP posts:
kleist · 12/01/2006 19:12

Ummm ... Long lanky body is more like it cc!

kalex · 12/01/2006 19:18

UUUUMMMM AHHHHH Well kind on thinking of joining, but can I cut down with your support, I smoke one in the morning, one at work (which worries me, I really don't need it, just need a break, which I can't have unless a fag break), one when I get home at 3.30 and one at about 8.

It's a ridicously small anmount, but it keeps me sane, 5 mins at the back door without the kids.

So my plan is to cut out one cig a week, the last one being the 3.30 after the school run. I'm sure you will understand.

SO my undertaking is to stop the morning ciggie on Monday, looking to you all for support

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 12/01/2006 20:04

Right I'm off to work tonight - have 3 ciggies left (to get me through the shift - as I'm knackered today - and I've got PMT) and then from tomorrow I'll be joining you

charliecat · 12/01/2006 20:08

Yeah 2 new quitters Kalex, pretend you strill smoke and go for a jog round the block if possible or just a breather in the loos/corridor whatever...well done you for wanting to quit, itas nice not having to smoke
Gont buy any more QOQ...wont be around first thing but hopefully someone will be, if anyones struggling just come type away while you crave and then get on with something else for a bit...then type bla bla
Good luck! whyquit.com for reading..must go tidy up xx

OP posts:
kleist · 12/01/2006 21:30

Kalex, I once quitted really successfully by cutting down like you're doing. I don't think it would have worked for me this time but it did then. I got down to something stupid like half a fag when I got home from work, then stopped altogether.

QOQ I won't be around in the morning either. Dd's got her settling in morning at Big School... gulp ... now, if anything makes me wish I had a fag, that does! I'm terribly nervous, haven't slept much for nights. I'll only really relax towards the end of next week when I know how she's going to handle it. It's only mornings. What will I be like when she goes full time next year???

notasheep · 12/01/2006 22:38

I have just had a fag.
I feel sick, sad, angry,oh for f sake, weak, tired and blaming it all on dp.
Dp and i had a big talk-if he didnt smoke i would not of just had a fag!!!

kleist · 12/01/2006 22:40

nota, just let it go. so what? You had a fag. It doesn't mean you're not still quitting. It doesn't mean you're not still past the worst cravings. Just get back on the wagon tomorrow.

charliecat · 12/01/2006 22:43

And learn from it....you have written down how awful you feel....read that take it in and learn from it...none tommorow. We have all been there. Learn from it xx

OP posts:
notasheep · 12/01/2006 22:44

Yes-and to be honest it has made me feel very ill indeed.Feel soooooooo nauseaous.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Hope all goes well with dd and BIG school-where do the years go eh?

notasheep · 12/01/2006 22:45

If i am not here in a minute i have gone to have a puke!

kleist · 12/01/2006 22:47

Gotta crash ready for dd's debut tomorrow! Keep your chin up nota - we're here, and like cc says, we've all had so many slip-ups ...

flutterbee · 12/01/2006 23:21

Damn it did I miss the introdutions I have been so busy, well here goes anyway....

Hi everyone I was smoking 20 a day and had been for 10 years. I have now been off the fags for 5 days and feel fine about it so far. I have had a few really bad cravings but have just managed to distract myself.

Nota I know that if my dh smoked I would have deffo had a ciggie by now it must be difficult for you. I went to my Mums yesterday for a few hours and both her and my stepdad smoke and it was really hard so I feel for you.

charliecat · 13/01/2006 10:52

Thinking of you guys this morning, hope you are doing well

OP posts:
notasheep · 13/01/2006 13:02

ds is puking due to his cough, have to make 2 birthday cakes for tomorrow, trying to organise with dp some smoking boundaries.Hoping that he will stop too.
But he wants to complete his dis first

Flutter-well done you!!!!!!!!

Fags are the devil!

kleist · 13/01/2006 21:51

So how's everyone doing today then?

Dd's first day at school went ok. The bike ride was so smooth it was daft. She got a bit weepy at the beginning when she 'forgot' how to share ... Then later I left her for a bit and came back and she was sitting down for songs with a poker straight back and the loudest voice in the room! She does love her song sessions ...

me23 · 13/01/2006 21:57

well done everyone for deciding to give up.
use your nhs stop smoking service if you need to.
I stopped a year ago will never ever start again.
my mum died of lung cancer a year ago.
I'm not scare mongering. It is a fact as you all know it kills.
you can all do it, it can be struggle but you will feel so much better without tobacco.

charliecat · 14/01/2006 09:10

Wheres everyone vanished to? Hope you all stayed off the fags yesterday.
Glad dds day went well Kliest
