Oh yes Great breaking the silences in conversation are fags
You will have also found yourself talking to any smelly old soul simply because they shared the same addiction as you
Well done you for moving on from the fags, I would try my dardest not to it again though as non smokers stay non smokers by not smoking, not by having a fly few ...
Done it myself a zillion, literally times and have finally came to that conclusion

Well I had lunch yesterday with my Mum and sister (both smokers) in the non smoking bistro and it was lovely, they both smoked whilst we were shopping and they smoked when we sat down for a drink to rest out shopped out feet. My Mum keeps telling me how brilliant she thinks I am and my sister seems to be seriously considering giving up, I worked out with her how much she would save if she quit and she seemed very suprised. I didn't push it any further as from experience I know being told we should (or shouldn't) do something doesn't help but I'm very hopefull.

I didn't crave a single drag whilst they were smoking and when DH got home at about 10.30 last night I bought the stuff out to show him what I had got and could smell smoke all over my new bag where they had both been looking at it, I was amazed that I could a) smell it so strongly and b) that after 6 hours the smell was still there.

Anyway day 27 for me and loving every second of being a non smoker, I'm off out tomorrow night for a meal to celebrate my b-day with DH and he is looking forward to it as much as me as we get to go to a really nice non smoking restaurant that I would have refused to go to before.

flutterbee · 03/02/2006 10:20

Ooooh and I can't remember if I told you this yet or not but DH and I have booked a mid week break on March 13th to a log cabin with hot tub and en-suit sauna and I have worked out that it will be exactly 9 weeks of non smoking by then and the £315 I will have saved is what has paid for the holiday.

Everyone else giving up should do something like this it really does make stopping so much sweeter.

charliecat · 03/02/2006 10:21

Sounds really good flutterbee
I have been through various stages with my mum smoking, from really being quite upset to getting very annoyed with the fact shes goes on these healty eating phases, not too much salt etc but continues to smoke.
Today she was smoking in her front room and it was making me cough so I put my scarf over my nose to keep the smoke out.
Sounds great that your are lveing every minute I have also wanted to grab people in the street and say Hey I stopped smoking 3 months ago.WOO HOOO!!!!!! Stopped myself of course

Hello again, thanks for all of your good wishes, shame there aren't a few more quitters on here!

Made it through the first day, barely! I felt really shaky and panicky and DH and I had real trouble sleeping last night but we are SO pleased we made it through the first day. I also have a horrible taste in my mouth, don't remember that from last time.

Last time I quit I only managed one week so that is my first important goal this time.

Do all of our Mum's smoke? Mine believes that smoking is good for her and if people don't like her smoking in their home or around them then they have the problem, not her. Sad!

Smoke free zone.

charliecat · 03/02/2006 13:39

Im not sure how many of our mums smoke.....good question though, if it is it should make us all more determined not too.
Can you imagine sharing an ashtray with your kids

re: Mums who smoke, I was wondering if having a Mum who smoked had something to do with me smoking, I guess it was just a good excuse. DH's parents have always been anti-smokers so that doesn't really compute either! Oh well, time to realise that I am just weak-willed and pathetic.

Almost 3 days of non-smoking and today was definitely easier than day 1 and 2 although there were still some MEGA craves today. I can't wait until my first day without a craving.

Congrats to all of you who have stayed off the smelly little cancer sticks, you are definitely an inspiration to newbies like me.

notasheep · 04/02/2006 21:35

Looks like we are on the same path Canadianmum, you on day 3 and i am on day 4.

The cravings WILL go,I gave up for 3 years!!!!!

One day you will wake up,get on with your day and suddenly realise when most of the day has passed that you havent thought about cigarettes.

Take one day at a time
